It's not only industrialization "ugliness"...there was also the romantic movement that had a particular fascination with the medieval era and gothic architecture. Romanticism coincided with the beginning of the XIX century.
Good analysis but the conclusion is wrong. the only way to confront the horror and error of modernity is to revive and build upon traditional styles. as you said, neo gothic incoporates not only contemporary technology and innovation but also classical forms. it is the pinnacle of achievement in western architecture, the high tide mark before the decline into perpetual ugliness.
Horse Shit. Modernity is the only escape from the detritus of poorly understood historical styles suffocating the visual landscape of contemporary building projects and vernacular habitation. The Gothic style today is a pointless and empty shell after the advent of the science of structural engineering, the lost of a communal religion and the popular support of a common goal to erect an edifice of public accommodation.
Correcting my last post: there are no adequate words to describe either this video or the building itself,.Do more videos about urban architectural landmarks: Eiffel Tower, Brandenburg Gate, etc.
as for the Eiffel Tower, it's merely a landmark, not a masterpiece at all always remember that at the time of construction is was considered a monstrous structure and artists were protesting against it as per the original plans it was to be dismantled 20 years after construction, the reason it stands to this day is its use for TV and radio broadcast

The perpendicular Gothic architectural style is simply breathtaking. A fine product of aesthetic achievement. Excellent video and analysis.

I hope the same mentality is utilized in the restoration of Notre Dame.
