- Jayson Tatum. 2020 NBA All-Star. Tatum took a leap in his third year in the league, jumping from 15.7 points per game on 45.0% from the field (attempting 13.1 field goals per game) and 37.3% from deep (attempted 3.9 3's per game) to 23.4 points per game (15th in the league before stoppage) on 45.0% from the field (upping his FGA to 18.6 per game) and 40.3% from deep (upping his 3PA to 7.1 per game). Jayson's free throws also took a leap, going from 2.9 attempts per game in his sophomore season to 4.7 attempts this season. His usage (according to the GREAT website Cleaning the Glass) went from a good rate 21.3% (83rd percentile) to 28.0% (96th percentile) - which, if you want to avoid confusion- taken with the earlier stats, it means he both INCREASED how much of an offensive load he shoulders while increasing the efficiency with which he does it.
Tatum has an arsenal so adeptly designed to devastate defenders that it needed multiple videos. The focus of this one is his sidestep to the right. I've heard from some that some of these are "pound stepbacks." Of course, his longtime trainer Drew Hanlen over at Pure Sweat Basketball can elaborate more on this and many other moves, but it boils down to this - the ability to sidestep to the right while being a right handed player is a high level move. To be able to do it against ELITE level defenders at the highest level of basketball is unreal.
There's more videos to come for Jayson, but I just wanted to put this one out there because as a basketball coach, it boggled my mind that someone can be this good at a move THIS hard THIS young.
The last two, I know they aren't really the same move - but I just felt like they had to be included in this one.

Here's my JT separation video:
• Jayson Tatum - Superb ...
Here's part 2:
• Jayson Tatum - Superb ...
Before I read the description I was about to say the same thing. Underrated how difficult this shot is. The distance + hard dribble + the movement + sliding to an unconventional side for right handed shooters + the defense. Truly Elite.
When harden was doing it everyone was hatinh
Another godlevel description; I'm hyped for more JT clips
Not to hate on him, but Jayson Tatum side stepping every chance he gets
If the other team can’t guard it why stop😂🤷🏽♂️ He has a lot more to his offensive bag anyway
If it aint broke
I would too if I was that good at it..
So skillful at that height
Love this move.. built my whole game around it lol.. learned it from kyrie 2016 finals
That’s dope
yes sirrrrr
Same, but sometimes im tryna shot it off 1 legged
But I only do the 1 legged during practices and 1v1s i aint that good yet at it and it would be inefficient in real games
More videos like this showcasing specific moves. Even if it's a shorter reel of clips.
that shit looks so fucking hard to guard i wanna implement this to my game
James harden been doing this for years
future legend for sure
last night l was thinking about how sick his sidestep jumpers are.
attack the lead foot of the defender. the defender has to close out diagonally instead of just closing out straight.
You should do Demar Derozan as well. He does that move a lot as well
Thank You‼️
Side step crazy
that side step to the right is tough as hell. I can only do it consistently from midrange, way harder to be balance and explosive jumper that going left ...for righties ofcourse.
Great video coach
Great Space
Side step letahal 😂
Best Sidestep ina NBA
I feel really good about my sidestep to the right but is there a way to improve my sidestep to the left
Like a paul pierce!!
Side step smooth. Look really like Kyrie when he does it
Dont look the same at all. They size up different and kyrie is jerkier and quicker with his side step. Tatum is smoother because he is able to comfortably shoot the ball over his defender since he's like 6'8
Half of these should be travels
0:05 everyone is know that what i want to describe to write this time label
we need a full super scorer video
do you? Because I was thinking more a separation video
@@EvinGualberto would love that too
0:35 am I tripping? No dribble hesi + side step wtf is happening 🤣🤣
