Martin, so nice to be able to drive in closer to the cabin. Thanks Jim for cutting the trees back! Doesn’t get any better when snow is by the Cabin for a “White Christmas !”❄️🏠❄️
That cup of tea must certainly be satisfying with the effort that goes into it. It beats going through a coffee shop drive thru in our book! Thanks for the visit.
Hey Martin, God bless you! Yes, I know your answer to that! My wife and I built our dream cabin 10 years ago. I started a second smaller cabin down our trail and hope to complete it this spring. It will be a great place to "getaway" without having to drive so far. Thanks for sharing and inspiring so many for so long!
Martin, you can get a large glass bottle and put your matches and starters in it with a few desiccant packs from packages and shipments. It will keep them super dry. Keep your powder dry! Thanks for taking us along on your trips!
I'll be headed back up to mine as well after Christmas. Looking forward to some am radio and the sound of the fire in the stove up in the woods of Wisconsin. Have a Merry Christmas Martin and Vonnie.
From a sleeping bag on the floor of Martin's cabin I've had a lot of fun trolling down the AM radio dial. Prince Albert Saskatchewan to New York City. A good way to feel far from the rat race.
To get a fire going fast in the wood stove I use a propane torch. One click on the trigger and I've got a hot flame to start any fire. Keep the flame off the sides of the stove and off the fire brick. It works so well that I haven't used kindling in decades to get a fire going.
Now, that's the life of rilly 😊. I know you gotta put in what you get out of it but you've got a rosey deal going on and it sure looks like a slice of paradise to me, Martin my friend 😊👍🏼🙏👏

Ah, Martin in the morning! A perfect way to start the day. May I suggest that for your next Firestarter adventure that you take an empty toilet paper roll and fill it full of dryer lint (not too tightly packed) and then wrap it in a piece of wax paper and twist the ends, looking somewhat like a big tootsie roll. Light the twisted ends and voila an effective and inexpensive fire starter. Pack a few in and try it on your next trip. Also, inexpensive liquid fuel cigarette lighters, available at any gas station or store in the country/woods, will start your fire better than old, maybe damp, maybe the striker surface doesn’t light the match, you get the idea. Usually no problem with the birch bark but it was a little frosty in the closed up cabin. My tripping back up is a cigar lighter and really gets things going when called upon. Always a few bics in a pack someplace.
