  • In this episode of Riichi Mahjong Guide, we go over three more yaku: ittsuu, sanshoku doujun, and sanshoku doukou. Ittsuu and sanshoku doujun are sequence-based yaku that can be used readily with pinfu. But, sanshoku doukou is a triplet-based yaku, so it would work well with yaku that we'll be covering in the next video.

    Do you have any tips on memorizing the Yakus? I have to keep rewatching these.

      Unfortunately, it just takes a lot of practice. I've heard of people only learning a few at a time, then adding more once they've memorized those. Flash cards might also help, if you're into that sort of thing. When I first started, I mostly just stared at a list of yaku to try and memorize them, but that probably wouldn't work for most people. In any case, the more you play, the easier it will be to remember the yaku.

      playing is the best way to memorize them. the more mahjong you play..the easier it is to recognize hands.

    3:53 Wouldn't that invalid for Pinfu ?
    'Cause the wait is Penchan
    I just study it today so I might be wrong tho
    Thx!

      Because the final wait would be considered the 45 ryanmen waiting on the 3 or 6, it would be pinfu either way.
      In riichi mahjong, completed hands are always scored at their highest possible value, so even though winning on the 3 could be considered to complete the penchan in other cases, because having pinfu would make a higher score here, we have to consider the 3 as completing the ryanmen.

    Would it still count if I chi part of the straight? ( ex: chi a 1 to make a 1-2-3, and I have 4-9 in hand ).

      @LightGrunty  Рік тому

      Yes, it's okay to call chii on any or all of those sequences. As long as your final hand shape includes the three sequences 123, 456, and 789 in the same suit, it will qualify for ittsuu.

      @@LightGrunty Do the sequences have to be specifically as you laid them out in your comment above? For example, I couldn't Chi 2, 3, 4, and hold 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 in my hand right? Just want to double check.

      @@xanol2780 Correct, the sequences must be 123, 456, and 789.
