I love this song , I love Irish music and the Irish people . This song always brings a tear to my eye, the most sad love song ever . I love you Ireland , may you be a United republic forever .
I do have to agree with you completely, as an Englishman myself... However, we still are of course, just look at the spectacle you're viewing? Does everyone not realise that Joe and his comrades gave their lives fighting against the British Empire and here we have Sir Rod who was more than happy to accept a "CBE" (Commander of the British Empire) and hounor which was introduced by the very King (King George V) at the time of the Rising, with the words "For God and The Empire" emblazoned on it. Really? Those who think this is appropriate should look at their hearts and ask the question just how many times they have actually bothered their arses to walk up Arbour Hill and pray at their grave side, or bothered to get to Dublin to attend the 100th Anniversary at the GPO in 2016, or really understood the real history behind the Easter Rising. So sad, especially as the 105th Anniversary is only a week or so away...For what died the sons of Roisin, was it greed? Or as Patrick Pearse put it..., The Fools, The Fools, The Fools!
My heart swells with compassion , when ever I hear this True story told or sung . I care not a jot who tells or sings as long as it's done with love and understanding . may the memory of JOSEPH MARY PLUNKETT & GRACE EVELYN GIFFORD PLUNKETT ENDURE ETERNAL
Great concert wish I had been there. The audience was really apart of the performance of Rod Stewart. I love that song and I love the country of Ireland ☘️
He’s brilliant to go and see live, saw him at Edinburgh Castle, shame the heavens opened up, but it didn’t dampen our spirits. Rod Stewart for ever. So pleased he sung that for the Irish people, who are very nice people.
i had the great pleasure to be in pairc ui chaoimh on that day . it was a memorable day and not to be forgotten . it was also a sad weekend as i lost a great friend and neighbour . this reminds me of eamonn
Thank you Rod Stewart for such a sensitive interpretation of this memorial to our great men who died for freedom for their people. A hundred years later, traitors have sold our freedom to fill out their swiss bank accounts and make slaves of working man and woman.
Complety agree with that history normally repeats itself the English aren't here now so the so called Patriots of fianna fail and fianna Gael will have no problem of putting the ordinary people down
Yes Rod Stewart did a great job of this song But it is a very sad song and the memories of the history of what the English did to the Irish people I don't hate the English Its history but never forgotten But no absolutely no hate
@Janette Davis I watched that show to Janette and I don't believe he insulted the guests and Graham. If he was a royalist, he would be supporting Rangers Football Club, not Celtic. Also, did you see the interview on the Late Late show where he met the 2 men who composed this lovely tune? If he was a royalist, they wouldn't have hugged him and thanked him for putting this song on his newest album. You are entitled to your opinion, your interpretation, but I don't believe he's a royalist. He may be english, born there, but definitely not a royalist. Do you think all those people in Cork would have shown up for his concert? Not a chance.
His father was Scottish from leith and a huge hubs fan and Rod was born in England but he will tell you he’s proud to be Scottish lol he also supports the scottish national team and of course Celtic 🏴💚
There are probably better videos of this from the night but the sound quality was so good and it captured the atmosphere in the stadium and emotion in the crowd - he is a brilliant entertainer and what power he still has in his voice!
He has done an awesome Job on this song! He could sing the phone book and it would be a #1 hit like grace is. This song means alot to him in many ways.
I hope me and my sons new friends from Munich v Celtic 2017 were there and had a ball like we did showing respect to the dead in the concentation camp. excuse the spelling.
Another Stewart classic crowd singer Brilliant .Hes the only performer other than Jolson to have you at one time tripping the light fantastic then move you so strongly you can barely speak !
This "political "comment is the VERY reason SIR Rod should have avoided this song. He tries in vain to justify it as a "love song" but we all know why it has become so popular at Parkhead and it certainly is not for romantic reasons as the soldiers in the video demonstrate.
How many version of this song you know? Alright you prefor McCann. Rod Stewart knight by HM Queen Elizabeth II. I don't know Rod Stewart's Biographie - born in London? grow up in Scotia ? Feels Celtic? In times of BREXIT he goes as Sir Rod to Ireland what more can I tell
Janette davis you have wrote the same reply to virtually every post on here . Yes we have seen the graham norton show clip and he didnt offend anyone it was banter , you just keep repeating the same lie. Many of the ra were protestants and atheists not just catholic and a number of the irish cause were english by birth incuding historically a number of the original martyrs . I dont know what your agenda is but your not helping yourself by lying about easily referenced facts.
Sung by an english who wants to be scots why did you not sing these rebel songs in the 70s because it would have stopped it makin it big yes rod money comes first then your opion make your money first then say what you want was a big fan from early years your lps are goin in the bin shame on you english man i no england done bad things in the past bit so did america to native americans why why did you not mention that in l/vages you are a joke m8 i know you will not read this but the world will give america back to native americans (n ireland)
He is a Scot, the Scots suffered at the hands of the English also. I think it's great that he sang an Irish classic in Cork, the fans obviously loved it !
Sir Rod said that" the British empire was the greatest empire that the world had ever known" Hypocrite that he is. Lots of empty seats for this royal scrounger.
praying on peoples emotions to sell a few records and keep himself relevant, an Englishman , who wished he was Scottish but sings songs of Ireland , forgets his time in the Blue of the Rangers ..
REMEMBER THE 400 BRITISH SOLDIERS FRESH FROM FIGHTING IN THE TRENCHES SHOT FROM ROOFS AND BEHIND CHILDREN BY THE FENIAN ASSASSINS , EASTER 1916 WHY AREN 'T THEY SINGING IT IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE , GAELIC
To hear that in the Rebel City... chills. I think the heroes of '16 would be proud of all of you.
I love this song , I love Irish music and the Irish people . This song always brings a tear to my eye, the most sad love song ever . I love you Ireland , may you be a United republic forever .
There’s an old expression the Ireland is the the land of happy wars and sad love songs. The proof is here to hear.
I think Rod should be giving a free man of Ireland as a credit for his rendition of this song and from an English man I have always loved his attitude
I’m an English man and I love an amazing Irish lady and I’m appalled what was done to the irish in the name of the British empire.
💙💙

Nice to see Rod following his teams fans highlighting the wrongs done by the British many years ago.
❤❤❤
And of course lets not point out Irish wrongs
He is "Sir Rod".
This "political "comment is the VERY reason SIR Rod should have avoided this song. He tries in vain to justify it as a "love song" but we all know why it has become so popular at Parkhead and it certainly is not for romantic reasons as the soldiers in the video demonstrate.

He is a Scot, the Scots suffered at the hands of the English also. I think it's great that he sang an Irish classic in Cork, the fans obviously loved it !
Grace Gifford would give this hypocrite a big side step.
Sir Rod said that" the British empire was the greatest empire that the world had ever known"
Hypocrite that he is.
Lots of empty seats for this royal scrounger.
