I would give anything to have my children on missions Rather than making the choices they are currently making.
Thanks for the reminder that God isn't finished with them yet.

As a mother of five missionary sons, I felt that in their service I was tithing my sons. I had them for 18-19 years, and my tithing was their missionary years. There were moments that were hard and scary, but for the most part, I counted it joy.

Listening from Nampa Idaho. Thank you so much, Brian, John and Hank! Thank you for the hope you always give me in my parenting journey. I’m a momma of 10 and life has taught me so much. Thank you Brian for your rock solid testimony of our divine nature and I am trying to remember …. BE PATIENT. ❤

There are so many parents who would die to have their kids serve a mission, but they are so far gone from the church. I can’t even imagine stressing out to have my child leave for a mission after having my child leave the gospel.

The Lord doesn't quit. He never runs out of energy or patience. He has your kids in His hands! He will never let go. They may have to go through hard things but He will be there as soon as their ready for Him. I KNOW it!

Listening from NE Florida. Sending our sons on missions was the hardest thing the Lord asked me to do (so far). I always relate that experience to Hannah in the Old Testament, but this was the first time i thought about it from King Mosiah’s point of view. One important takeaway for me was redefining repentance as pondering which things are standing between me and Heavenly Father and the Savior, and then turning away from those things. Thank you.

Brother Mead was a seminary teacher for both me and and my husband 10+ years ago (so was Brother Smith!) and we've especially loved listening to this episode--it's like we are back in seminary. I'm one of those moms with 3 young kids who listens as I fold neverending mountains of laundry, and I'm so grateful for the reminder to focus on the 3 pillars as I teach my kids.

I'll try to keep this short--suffice it to say that the Lord spoke directly to me, tonight, through the three of you, at the beginning of the podcast, as well as throughout. We came down to Salt Lake to go to the DI's (such a big treat for us!), the Deseret Book stores ( another huge treat for us!). And, of course, we came for the many temples! I was able to attend the new Layton Temple, yesterday. It was not yet open the last time I was down here in February. WHAT A BLESSING!
We thought that we would get to see our daughter, her husband and children while here. We were broken hearted to find out that she is not up for a visit. We drove 500 miles, and this gramma needs some grandpeople hugs! We offered to take them out to dinner. My husband texted to ask if we could come get the kids for a day and give them a break. We also offered to help, if they are in some kind of trouble. We've tried and there is no response, other than they don't want a visit. We don't know why we're cut off. There was no falling out, but since they moved back down here last winter, that has been no communication.
This got way longer than I wanted it to. My main point was to say that today, on the 4th of July, my heart just hurt and I had a knot in my stomach, because we're staying just a couple miles from where they live and we can't see our babies and it hurts.
So, the bright spot came, as my husband and I were getting something to eat. I turned on your podcast and the Lord spoke to me. I don't recall the exact words, but we have to wait. It's not our timing, and the Lord knows all things. I'm not stating it exactly how you did because it was a few hours ago that I listened to the beginning, but I want to thank you wholeheartedly for this podcast, Hank and John, every single week. You don't know how much the Lord Works through you. Thank you. 🙏
Now, if you could just tell us which ward you'll be in on Sunday we need a familiar face! Lol

This reminded me of my own mother sending her second daughter-me- on a mission. My sister was serving in Chile in the mid eighties when there was a massive earthquake. My mom had to wait about 16 hours for word from the missionary department regarding her safety. Fortunately, she was safe and not injured, some mother’s did not receive such good news.
A few years later, when I put in my papers, my mother got on her knees and asked that I be close enough to her so that she could walk to get me if needed. She willingly supported me but had concerns. Heavenly Father granted her request. I served in a mission that would have taken her only about 12 hours to drive to. She would have walked if I needed her.
My own son served a service mission so I can’t imagine what it is actually like to send them forth. I think I would be a little more crazy than I already am! I applaud your commitment to the Lord and your faith in His love.

Alma 17 has a fitting description of how one could describe Hank & John,
"Bethren in the Lord- yea they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God. 3 But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God." Alma 17: 2-3
Thank you John and Hank for sharing your teachings and testimony each week with is!

At 23:12 There is a discussion on what repentance is. I would add to your words that repentance is walking life in a higher and holier way. We can't live higher and holier without continually doing all the things you mentioned and we can't keep ourselves living higher and holier without maintaining that profound change of mind and heart. I believe that repentance is all these things working synergistically together. We see how Alma and the sons of Mosiah changed, heart and mind to become holy men and they maintained their holiness by keeping heart and mind focused on Christ. Thank you for your videos! they are indispensable to me as I live alone and have no one to share my scripture study with. You fill that void for me. Thank you so much

Well spoken. In Alma 5, one of the questions is “can ye feel so now?”, talking about singing the song of redeeming love. I’ve used this as a reference point for my position on the path. If I can still feel that redeeming love then I am facing the right way and moving towards the tree of life. Direction and progress are more important than how close to perfection we are. No matter where we stand, if we stand with God, Jesus Christ makes up and makes all the difference. (Thank you, Brad Wilcox.)

We saw more than 16 young missionaries who were the best of the best! We served in 2013 - 2015 and my husband turned 88 the month after we got back home. He was treated with kindness and great respect from everyone we met. Great country and faithful great people.

I always thought how extreme was that King Lamoni offered his daughter to Ammon as a wife. Well, King Lamoni probably understood at what point who Ammon was, the son of a Nephite king! What an alliance! King Lamoni probably was thinking how that could work on his favor. Then Ammon rejected his daughter, King Lamoni was very offended for sure! No wander why King Lamoni put Ammon to look after his flocks, one of the most dangerous positions in his kingdom. Perhaps King Lamoni thought that was a good way to get rid of Ammon.

He is so close that I'm not worried but also low key completely worried. We have a sister in our ward in Japan. I can't even imagine! My son didn't write or call for 2 weeks and I about lost my mind and contacted the mission President. He finally called, we had a 5 min conversation and I'm good for another week. Just check in, is all I'm saying. 😊

Once again I find myself wanting to have a lengthy discussion with someone about this episode. There have been so many a-ha moments that I’m bursting to share.
Thanks to all for the humorous insights that generated some pondering as well as the serious ones that did the same.
One of the thoughts that keeps coming to mind is about Ammon disarming the thieves. When you suggested that the arms might be weapons rather than biceps, I immediately thought about the armor of God. Ammon is clearly protected by this armor and wields the mighty weapon of offense, the sword of the Spirit. It occurred to me that he is capable in both arenas of “combat”. (That isn’t the right term for all the times we employ the sword of the Spirit but you get what I mean.)
He does not hesitate to draw his sword to defend King Lamoni from his father. As soon as the father realizes that Ammon can eliminate him, Ammon unsheathes the sword of the Spirit to save everyone involved, including King Lamoni’s father.
I may be out in the weeds but it’s an image I like and teaches me a valuable lesson. Ammon ALWAYS used his physical sword to defend and protect. He ALWAYS used the sword of the Spirit to teach with love. I must do the same.

I loved hearing about the young man who was called to serve in Tbilisi, Georgia! That was my mission, though I was on the Armenia side! It is a very small mission, and I remember when I got there there were only about 3 companionships in Georgia. Soon after I arrived the very first sister missionaries were sent to Georgia, and those 2 sisters were companions for probably 2/3 of their missions until some more sisters were called! We may not have 14 year missions like the sons of Mosiah today, but there are still challenges for all of us!

    "still brothers in the Lord"
I love that phrase. In another life, I was a hoodlum and ended up going to prison. I had a friend who I was also a hoodlum with. Years later, both living our own lives(including prison for us both and kids and family for us both) he ended up getting baptized. Not much in friendship, outside of family ties, is sweeter than realizing that not only are you still brothers who have done better for yourselves, but also brothers in Christ.

May a mother of children who did not choose to serve missions say how amazing it would have been to have a child go a mission? All my children have ADHD and/or are on the autism spectrum and it has been more or less difficult for them to find their footing in life. How happy I would gave been to have children with no such problems going on with life and being able to do all the things. But this is our path and I have learned a lot about patience, humility and charity.

Thank you, Brian, for sharing your struggles and testifying of the comfort that comes from scriptures and Priesthood blessings. It helps me apply the scriptures to my life struggles more than listening and reading.
