  • In this video I start preparing Faith for her first ride, I start getting her use to a bridal and saddle and begin ground driving lessons. She still needs a bit of desensitizing so I get one of our little labradoodle puppies out to see what her reaction will be!

"Faith is such a quick learner." I was just about to type that. Yes, she is!

I remember my dad used to say that most young horses don’t really know how to buck and there’s no reason to give them a chance to learn! I think your slow, steady approach is the way to go! Great job with Faith!!

Fath is doing so good. I'm so grateful you got her she really needs a kind hand. I just wanted to cry when the previous owner was snapping her lead rope.

WOW JR....little Faith is doing great under your tutelage! She trusts you and feels safe. Her previous owner was afraid of her and Faith picked up her fear. What a perfect lesson on transference between fear & calm-trust. Praise to Emori for spotting this Gem of a horse in a field of rocks. God bless.....

@@alanboyd7341 The dogs appear to be part of the package deal on the farm. The horses seem to be use to the dogs and interact well. These folks work with dogs and horses and train them all. I know people that take their dogs out that are bear hunters. They go with the horses to hunt bears that have come onto farm properties. The hunters were out doing a job to protect farm animals. Both the person, horse and dogs are trained to the necessary task at hand. I haven't seen this trainer that you are referring to, going hunting with dogs on horses combined, rather for pleasure, though JR could educate use further on this. Dogs and horses can coexist when properly trained. My dogs are use to being with our horses and know to take direction from me and be mindful when being around the horses. Asking questions of why, is appropriate not every dog knows how to act around a large animal. Great that you asked the question.

First in! Thanks for posting. Faith is making progress. I think she will be a fine horse for someone.
Too cute, those puppies. Put them to work early, too.

Why is the doggy on a chain? Poor guy, is he ever allowed to run freely? Is it just certain moments of a day where he is chained up?

IMO, the background noises indicate how easily the mare can get startled. It gives us a better picture of what the horses have to learn to ignore, perhaps. It didn't seem to interfere with your voice narration, to me. Besides, the dogs are part of the family too, methinks.

    • @homesteadhorsemanship

Your right. But the part you might be missing is the stress on me. I am trying to convey everything that is just second nature to me because training horses is just who I am. I am trying to concentrate on horse but spending much of my cognitive ability on communicating and trying to get good shots. If the dog is distracting me or gets me in a bad mood the horse will perceive it and it effects the training. There’s times if I’m in a bad mood I just don’t train because it’s counter productive.

Wow, I had to quit watching because I got so dizzy! LOL She has really come a long way in such a sort time. She must have not felt safe and calm in her environment before. Nothing against the lady. YOu can just see how much calmer she is. Nice!
