Hi, I've just started with pastel pencils, but I've been drawing for a while, I struggle to get ideas of this to draw out of my head and normally have to look at photos how do you execute your ideas from your head
Thank you for your interest. I use my own Square Drawing system to execute my line drawings this is a quick and easy way to get started. You can view my Square Drawing Pack on my website. Kind regards Colin.
***** I always use Faber-Castell Pitt pastel pencils as I prefer the smoothness of their application however I used to use Stabilo Car-Othello and I would put them as second best. As far as soft pastels are concerned I use several makes, I hope this helps. Kind regards Colin.
Noémie Charlot It is possible to use Canson pastel paper with the pastel pencils, however the tooth of the paper is different and this can be a distraction, thank you for your interest
+Kimberley Thomas I use sand coloured ingres pastel paper made by fabriano of italy, it's 160gsm and I use the textured size of the paper. I sell pads of this paper in my store: colinbradleyartstore.co.uk/shop/sand-coloured-ingres-pastel-paper-a4/
hello. am I seeing with pencils you are going light to dark? and how do you sharpen without smashing the pastel since it is softer than the wood holding it.
Margaret Sen I do work from light to dark as a general rule. I use a sharp blade to sharpen my pastel pencils, the Faber-Castell ones I work with are stronger than most of the other makes, thank you for your interest.
The make up of the two types of pencil are very different and therefore not compatible, however polichromos pastel sticks can be used successfully with the pastel pencils as the make up of these are similar to the pastels.
Thank you for your information . I know it's out of the video's subject but which colored pencils should i use with polychromos shall i use only base oiled ones cause they're expensive . What shall i use for a base ?
+Mrglue Gtick I don't use the conventional coloured pencils preferring instead to use the pastels that are more easily blended. I would suggest that you try to find other coloured pencil users that would be better placed to help you.
Hi Colin Great work as always :-) You said you were using the sand coloured paper but what type if paper is it? Is it cardstock or something else? Thanks :-)

By the way Colin, what paper do you use in this? It's beautiful.
Do you need to use special paper for this? Would it be okay if I used normal paper?
It is better to use pastel paper as this will produce the best effects

Full volume and it's still in whisper mode
Ken Stentiford This is strange then, for I do not have great hearing but I had to turn my iPad to half volume
THANK YOU! I thought I was going DEAF!
Useful advice and the voice may be soothing, but the sound quality is terrible. I had the volume turned up to maximum and I can still barely hear it!
Gloria J. Pinsker Thank you for your feedback
Extremely useful video, but find it difficult to hear. Your voice is a whisper.
Diane Quinn Thank you for your feedback
If this is to help up learn, why do you skip the first part of the video? That doesn't help much!!!! Disappointed.
This was designed to show the Beni firs of the pastel pencil and materials used, this is one of our most successful clips.
