This can also be found in Singapore and Malaysia, and were brought over by migrants from Southern China. In this part of the world, it's called Ang Ku Kueh (Red Tortoise Cake), because of its colour and the shape of the mould. Tortoises symbolize longevity and are seen as auspicious. Here, the traditional filling is either mung bean or crushed peanuts, but in recent years, new flavors such as yam, black sesame, sweet potato and even chocolate have emerged. Sometimes, you will see these cakes in different colours and in at least one shop in Singapore, you will see a rainbow coloured version at a certain time of the year to celebrate pride.
