@@danlagi. Gade is not kings to me. There are many players could beat him even on his prime. Even Viktor can beat him. I would say he can beat Taufik and Gade easily even at their prime or even close. LCW and LD, not close.

Well first of all he will be the next GOAT and here the word 'next' is used because he has years left to add to his winning records and none of the current players are close to him in terms of that and at the end of his carrer if there is no issue he is sure to get closer to badminton GOATs. Second, yes this era is not so competitive such as LD, LCW or Taufik's times but if you think you can be the world number one, olympic champ, world champ, world tour champ, and win 7 bwf super series in a year with just loosing 3 matches easily even in this era then go on, do it yourself then. You must keep in mind that he has achieved so much despite being from Europe when the badminton world is mostly dominated by Asian countries.
Played in a dogshit era and got lucky the best player of that era who was beating him 14-1 got into a car accident

There is no "next" GOAT. Being the best in your generation doesn't make you the GOAT. It makes you the best to have ever grazed the court, GOAT= Greatest Of All Time.
Viktor is definitely great but I wouldn't go as far as to say he is the best of all time. Maybe after his retirement then we can fully compare his achievements to other legendary players, right now, he still have plenty more titles to claim!

Imo the term "G.O.A.T." is kinda vague in badminton. Just because how fast badminton is evolving. From the perspective of titles, Lin Dan is the GOAT but tbh back then there wasn't really anyone that could challenge him aside from LCW because LD and LCW's era was pretty much an entirely new age of badminton.
Nowadays, badminton is much more competitive than it used to be with more stronger players emerging from different countries. Especially for MD and MS categories.
It's a completely different era of badminton now, and I honestly think people should take a closer look and analyze the games and the player's overall capabilities rather than just comparing titles. Viktor's current form is probably the best I've seen so far, but that's just my opinion.
Asides from LCW? Taufik Hidayat, Peter Gade, later Chen Long.
@@tonp2917 Taufik and Gade was on the brink of retirement during most of LD & LCW's era. I didn't include Chen Long because he's a bit tricky to analyze, but I guess you're right, Chen Long deserves to be on the spot too.

Compare the 2018-22 & 2005-12 era, how many players have reached at least 1 SF at Olympics or World Championships? For 2018-22 it’s 16 different guys out of 20 maximum while the number is 12 out of 32 for 2005-12. Who were Lin Dan’s biggest threats back then? LCW, Chen Long, Taufik, Gade, Chen Jin, Bao Chunlai…all were strong with high consistency that brought them into many finals & championships. And who are the players that are considered Axelsen’s biggest threats? Loh Kean Yew, Lee Zii Jia who are known for weak mental strength & lack of consistency. If this era were the same as Lin-Lee’s era, VA would have to face those two frequently for the titles.
Of course. This guy is so lucky, while he was young, he played with many badminton stars & legends before they retired. He got experience from there.

Hi guys, best way to contest the goat status is to use data. Lets discuss number of titles etc. Instead of subjective arguements. To be the singles GOAT, is to no doubt at least have two olympics golds at least then followed by the other tournament titles etc.
Use this as the basis of discussion or risk toxic responses :)
If you're referring to other sports (football, swimming, baseball, basketball etc) GOAT it's meant to complete all the medal/ trophy in his/her career. Example Messi only one WC trophy becoming a GOAT because of He completed all the medals: Youth World Cup, Balon d'oor, Champions League Cup, La Liga Winner, Copa America...and so did Zidane, Cannavaro, Didier Deschamp, Maradona, Pele
In badminton the player that completes all the trophy from Junior to senior not LinDan but Chen Long (LinDan miss an eye level cup/junior world champ). Chen Long then the real GOAT in badminton.
If you said "The GOAT" at least 2 badminton Olympic gold medals and other prestigious trophy, not just Lindan then. There are also Fu Haifeng, Gao Ling, Kim Dong Moon, Zhang Nan, Zhao Yunlei, that received more than 2 Olympic gold medals, or Zhang ning, ge fei, gu Jun the same as Lindan that got 2 Olympic gold medals.
But how about the player from 70s,60s,50s,40s era (no sudirman, WTC, junior WC, no world champs, no Olympics for badminton already) . Rudy Hartono 8x All England winner, Morten Frost Hansen 7x Danish Open winner, Betty Uber unbeatable in 5 years. How that they can't be a GOAT athletes?

Then I wrote all about great badminton athletes (single or double player) from the past (when BWF doesn't exist, IBF, and before WW2) until present and release all the data from BWF source it self. And compare it to others sport (Messi, zidane deschamp Pele maradona) as an example). So your GOAT standard is debatable then?! GOAT isn't 1 person but many persons came from an era that completes all the title, not just collecting 2 Olympic gold!

Viktor is currently the best now but he can’t challenge for the GOAT status. In terms of titles he is far behind LD and LCW. Although Viktor has won the majors (Olympics, AE, WC) but who did he win it against? The level of MS right now is at an all time low. Let us not forget Viktor was the 2nd best in his generation behind Kento. He was lucky Kento got banned and then the car accident happened, and Viktor managed to win these majors. Before that, Viktor couldnt beat Kento at all (go check their H2H) record.
Lindan won most of his majors against LCW though. LCW couldn’t win most majors cause of LD and then later prime CL.
If prime LD, LCW, and CL were to play Viktor now, Im sure they would win most of the time cause they are too fast and their defence are good enough to take Viktor’s smashes. Not saying that Viktor can never beat them in their prime but just that he will lose most of the matches.

Sorry, but despite his recent domination & the titles he achieved, he’s still behind Lin Dan, LCW, Chen Long, Momota, Taufik, Gade…Why? Because they played in such competitive time & their top rivals are much much more consistent. Imagine Axelsen’s era is the same as Lin-Lee’s era, what will it be? LKY, LZJ, SYQ would be in the SF frequently & VA will have to defeat them constantly for the titles. And based on what happened at their recent H2Hs, it would not be an easy route like CTC, ZJP or post-accident Momota. But if he can extend his records much more than any player in previous competitive eras, he’s no doubt one of the GOATs.
He is not a GOAT to me but if talking about current generation sure but for some reason am not impress similar with any other players. And by the way, he is better than Gade even in his prime and could even beat Taufik anytime even at his prime. But I would always pick Taufik any day and time due to style and dominance back in those days. Cant really compare as the game as changed so much especially point system and style. Consistently losing to very tough opponents doesn't put you ahead of someone who actually achieved big in big tournies. Lcw was my idol when he was playing, but theirs no way I'm putting him ahead of Victor since he has 0 big tourney wins.

In tennis, novak djokovic has been 36 years old this year but still won grand slam of australia open 2023 and has gotten his world no. 1 back starting from 374 weeks. I do know, today's chinese MS era is really weak, but it is all other players's fault for being inconsistent. That goes to tennis cuz when djokovic still plays, there is no room for young ATP players to grab grand slam title except carlos alcaraz. Many people also blame today's ATP era as a very weak era cuz federer had retired, nadal is being out of his form, carlos alcaraz is still being injured, other ATP players are really inconsistent. But, it can't be helped that djokovic's extraordinary performance deserves world no. 1 spot and he proves that! So, this is what i can comment maturely

He'll never reach goat status due to weak competition. He's a great player no doubt but it's clear as day that he's not Upto the standard of peak LCW or LD regardless of how many titles he wins and how dominant he is in this crappy era
@@pk1342 But that is an entirely subjective opinion. The most objective criteria is to judge on merits and here Axelsen will surpass LCW. It is not Axelsen's fault there are no consistent rivals.
I have no doubt he will be regarded better than LCW when his career is over but Lin Dan will still be called the GOAT.

Axelsens already lost more matches in his career than both LD and LCW by the end of their careers.
They are both subjectively and objectively better than axelsen and deluded people that never experienced watching both eras need to understand this. But sadly despite the fact that so many games are available to watch for free on UA-cam the recency bias is extremely strong.

Guys wake the hell up- VA has already overtaken LCW in terms of achievements by a great mile (Olympic champ + 2 X world champ) VS LCW who’s biggest career achievement is basically the All England Title.
