UR Athletes Rise to the Academic Challenge

Whether it's winning the Liberty League title, or making the Dean's List, the players on the University of Rochester softball team strive to excel in every area of the college experience. It's that winning attitude that led the team to bring home their league title in 2015, and to earn honors in academic fields like business, economics, psychology and bioethics.
The unique relationship between pitchers and catchers is one that exemplifies the teamwork and hard work that is required for this type of success. Pitchers and catchers work together closely, arriving early to practice to work on skills specific to their position so they can take part in practice when the rest of the team arrives. It's that communication and collaboration, not to mention leadership, they require to do well on the field, which also serves them in the classroom.
These teammates say that the work they put in both in games and practice translates to achievement in academics, helping them to better manage their time to accommodate busy schedules, and having the discipline required to do both well. These are skills and experiences that they'll take with them beyond their time in college, into the job market and wherever else life takes them.
