I like watching people fight Living Failures on BL4 runs (the equivalent to SL1 runs in Dark Souls games) because then they don't get to kill them too fast. Pick 1 and worry about cutting him off from his help. Did that with Living Failures, the shadows, the demons in the ringed city.
Absolutely love the implication that the Living Failures finally succeeded at achieving attunement with the Great Ones (when they send down the meteors) right before their second death in the Nightmare, but it does raise the question as to why they weren't able to do it before they were killed off the first time.
My assumption has always been that their lives have never been threatened in that way before. They may have died but they were never slaughtered. So I always assumed it was their fear that drove them into it
I honestly think that they did succesfully ascens, and so no one could communicate with them. So when asked to commune with the great ones they wouldn’t. They just do it whenever they feel like it.
Myazaki and his team are the kind of people who can design a boos fight with the power to rain celestial meteors upon the earth, summon balls of arcane power to shoot at you, and upon portals to pocket dimensions full of pure energy to blast you with, all while having one of the beast themes in the game. And despite all this, these creatures are still considered failures, I consider this a lesson of how high the standards have been set for Fromsoftware's bosses, and they still deliver. Also, this is irrellevant, but for a long time, I misread the boss' health bar as "Liver failure"

I remeber hearing this in one of the trailers before it came out, then it wasnt in the base game and i was like "fuck i guess they didnt use it." then i got to this boss day 1 of the dlc and creamed myself. My favorite thing about this song is something a reactor pointed out which is that while many of the Bloodborne's OSTs have sad chords, this one has happy chords. The difference between these cosmic beings and some abominations from the sewers is very noticeable in the soundtracks.
Extra blood echoes for visceral kills has a timed effect so that it works on foes with long death animations. Stack that rune in all your slots. Get living failures to low health. Visceral kill one, then visceral kill another within 7 seconds, beating the boss, and the runes will multiply the boss's blood echoes once, then multiply it again. 77 million echoes.
I like to think they are called Living Failures is because they don't look like the Great Ones. The Great Ones all seem to take on the shape of an aquatic lifeform, like Kos and Ebrietas. The Celestial Emissaries are the ones that were seen as successful because they look like a cephalopod. Maybe some things in lore can be seen as surface level instead of the deep end.
The fact that Living is in the name suggests; they knew the protentional that these had with a connection to the Great Ones, but seeing as how they deem them as failures, it's safe to say it was surface level pettiness. Do you really want to base your whole religion to deformed sacks of meat, when you could make reliefs of the Amgydalas and Celestial Emissaries. Humans are always perfectionists.
I am more curious about these creatures than any other in the entire soulsborne library. The research hall is beyond disturbing and curious at the same time.
This boss needed a bigger HP bar so this theme could have played more (considering how easy it is I'd say at least 2x the HP, and 2nd phase starts at 70%HP instead of 50%. This would have been cooler cuz you would fight an immense amount of living failures giving you even more perception on the sins committed by the church)
How cruely ironic that the creatures literally called "Living Failures" are the ones to finally achieve connection with the cosmos itself.

Extra blood echoes for visceral kills has a timed effect so that it works on foes with long death animations.
Stack that rune in all your slots.
Get living failures to low health. Visceral kill one, then visceral kill another within 7 seconds, beating the boss, and the runes will multiply the boss's blood echoes once, then multiply it again. 77 million echoes.
Sounds like Wagner got very high and made contact with the cosmos, then turned it into music.

this OST has no right to slap this hard
I like to think they are called Living Failures is because they don't look like the Great Ones. The Great Ones all seem to take on the shape of an aquatic lifeform, like Kos and Ebrietas. The Celestial Emissaries are the ones that were seen as successful because they look like a cephalopod. Maybe some things in lore can be seen as surface level instead of the deep end.
The fact that Living is in the name suggests; they knew the protentional that these had with a connection to the Great Ones, but seeing as how they deem them as failures, it's safe to say it was surface level pettiness. Do you really want to base your whole religion to deformed sacks of meat, when you could make reliefs of the Amgydalas and Celestial Emissaries. Humans are always perfectionists.
I am more curious about these creatures than any other in the entire soulsborne library. The research hall is beyond disturbing and curious at the same time.

This boss needed a bigger HP bar so this theme could have played more (considering how easy it is I'd say at least 2x the HP, and 2nd phase starts at 70%HP instead of 50%. This would have been cooler cuz you would fight an immense amount of living failures giving you even more perception on the sins committed by the church)
