  • In southeastern #France, in #Provence, is the province of Vaucluse, where, about 30 km east of Avignon, in a picturesque valley, open only on one side, on the banks of the Sorgue River, there is a small town #Fontaine-de-Vaucluse.
    The history of this place stretches back to ancient times, when rituals related to the cult of water were performed here. In the middle of the XIV century. the Italian poet Francesco Petrarca lived and wrote sonnets here for his beloved Laura.
    The town of about 600 people has the largest fresh water source in France, the fifth largest in the world.
