This is AWESOME! I recently changed the plugs in my wife's 2009 and saw oil in the wells..crap! Well, after watching this I'm NOT going to take it to the shop, this one I'm gonna do myself, thanks to YOU! This is the kinda videos that ALL mechanics need to make, clear, simple and most importantly...to the point! I've watched some vids and they make it seem like....man, I do NOT want to attempt that, but not yours! Thanks for making this AND doing a GREAT job at it too!!
@@s33therfan You're welcome. When I say I've watched a LOT of diy mechanic videos, well I can't count them all. This blows ALL of them out of the water. Keep on doing what you're doing it's helping a LOT of folks save time AND money!
Greatest thing about your vid is that you don’t skip a single thing nor do you miss the chance to describe everything about what you’re doing. Your vid saved me hundreds of dollars. Thank you bud.
Excellent one handed video!!! LOL. Great detailed walk-through. I have a 2006 Escape hybrid (160+k miles) that has the same issue (oil in 2 of the spark plug compartments) and I now feel very confident in tackling this. I've not done value covers before so this has been a huge help. Thanks again.
Hey man. Ive just changed the spark plugs in my 2006 escape and found oil in the plugs. After watching this, i recon i can do it myself. Thanks for making such a long vid and for not fast forwarding too much. Ive ordered the gasket and am looking forward to getting in there.
Excellent video. I have a 2005 Escape and was just told why there is oil in the slots where the spark plugs are. Time to order a gasket set, some new plugs, and some new coil packs. Thanks, your video was very helpful
Escape 2.3L According to the Ford service manual the: FoMoCo Part Numbers and Torque Specs: Ignition Coil (4x) 12A366; Dielectric Grease FoMoCo ESE-M1C171-A in the coil hole, Spark Plug (4x) 12405, Gap to 1.25 - 1.35 mm (0.049 - 0.053 in), and Torque is 12 Nm (9 lb-ft); Ignition Coil-to-valve Cover stud bolt W705310, Ignition coil torque to 8 Nm (71 lb-in); Valve Cover Gasket 6M293; and Valve Cover Bolts (14x) W705310 (10 Nm (89 lb-in)). Your Welcome.
I got the same problem with my 2009 mercury mariner . I was driving and smelt oil burning and I know this car doesn’t leak underneath. Low and behold I opened the hood and at the back of the valve cover I see oil. Thank you for the video and your help!
ECXELENT VIDEO!!!!!!! My hat off to you, great experience. you have no idea how good is your searing your experience with the rest of us. Thank you a million. Sincerely
Thank you so much I never thought I would get my Ford escape done until I found this video how to do it and my dad was drunk so he let me do it anyways he didn’t thought I could but this video told me I could and now it’s fixed😂 😂😂😂😂
Thank you for sharing and the feedback . I have never had to worry with fel pro when buying them and they have always served me well on many applications . Thank you for watching
Doing this same job on an 2007 mariner with same engine. Pulled it apart so far and just waiting on the gasket. Also pulled 02 sensors. Both mine were bad due to the oil leaking down into them.
Yes . Very nice to fix things back the way they should be. I cant believe i have never ripped a coil pack in half before . Guess it had to happen sooner or later ha. Thanks again and happy holidays to you too sir.
Man thanks so much for the detailed video. I’m a licensed electrician so I’m pretty handy with tools and multiple parts, but I’m far from a mechanic but watching your video makes me feel confident enough to replace my 2007 Ford Escape XLT valve cover gasket. I recently purchased the small suv for $2000 with 120k miles. Very minor leak. But I’ve also got a belt squeak that only happens upon starting and goes away after letting it run for about 3-7 minutes. What do you recommend to stop the noise
My 2008 xlt have oil on the spark plugs. It start shaking, feel like it’s dragging, and accelerate slow after the car warms up. It went away after I changed the spark plugs and the oil drained down. But 2 weeks later it started doing it again
Why mechanics I talked to don't wanna do this? It doesn't seem so hard but they said these changes often fail. Everyone suggested me to buy a new engine so far. As someone who doesn't know anything about cars and engines, I am afraid of changing this myself.
@@s33therfan my friend told me it was head gasket but maybe it is called valve gasket? The issue is same as yours. The oil fills in the spark plugs. Is there a way for me to understand which one it is?
It is the valve cover gasket , the seals around the spark plug wells are leaking. It is a pretty easy fix , and not expensive. Thanks for the feedback.
It is under the intake and not real easy to get access to. You have remove the intake and pull it back out of the way. The pcv will be held on top of the crank case vent oil seperator. You have push in on 2 tabs to remove the pcv . Pick tools work great. Hope this helps . Thanks for watching.
oil in the spark plug wells, not all of them only a couple, tgis the reason? 08 escape with 174000km (108000 miles) just replaced plugs cause it was time, discovered oil in the 2 outside plug wells....also the coil pack that pulled apart on you is the EXACT one that pulled apart on me
Just curious, I know this is an old video, but does anyone else have to put a quart of oil in every week? I bought the car at about 80k miles, it has 117 now, but it's burning a quart of oil a week, nothing ever on the ground even if it sits for a month

This was super helpful. Thanks for doing so much of the repair on camera and not just speeding through everything! Awesome walkthrough.

It will also solve oil in spark plug well ?
Yes , absolutely. Thanks for watching.

If your spark plugs and gaskets are all good that should keep the oil out of them. I would move on to the coil packs . Thanks for watching.

The valve cover gasket is a very simple process , however a head gasket is a whole different story. Thank you for the feedback.

Any idea on how to get rid of that ticking? I know it's probably mostly harmless but I'd like to lessen it if it's easily possible
Merry Christmas!

Hey thanks for making a video, I tried using the link for Amazon for the gasket and it says it doesn't fit a 2005 Ford escape on Amazon... 😬
Ignore their compatibility guide . If your escape has the 2.3l , it will fit. Thank you for the feedback and thanks for watching.
I liked it a lot, thanks I"ll try'
Thank you for watching.
Will this problem cause a ruff idle??
yes , it could if it's causing enough of a vacuum leak. thanks for watching.
What if I don't have a spark plug socket?
I would try to go down in the sparkplug wells and remove as much oil as I could . I have used rags cotton balls etc. Thanks for the feedback.
Spark Plug / Coil-On-Plug Boot get a set all four $13.00

Believe it or not, Ford says to replace the actual valve cover, not just gaskets even if it's not damaged. Not that I will oblige🤣.
Yep me either , as long as it's still in good shape. Thanks for the feedback.
