    Sir ,
The historiography of independence as class-based movement is an interesting point and it is this essence that is being carried out through out the movement by our leaders Gandhi , Nehru and others. So primarily it is to improve our livelihoods and economic and social well-being that our leaders have created or brought into the mainstream , the tool of nationalism that binds all the people of India having different vested interests.
And also the difference between the Indian state and society and their emergence is also significant.
But Sir I have a doubt.
What do you mean by getting ready for democracy.??

democracy is not just about regular elections
      it is about democratic participation
      and democratic values like equality
      secularism rationalism
idea of people as real rulers
      and politicians as mere representative
not patriarchal and elitist nature of state and politicians

unfortunately in the name of indian society this gentleman is talking more about indian history pre independence. clear lack of involving post independent themes and themes of globalisation

+Mahidhar Vunnava Exactly. This gentleman is talking about history per se, & that too not from a societal perspective. I do agree that it is quite overlapping, but that is what is expected from an expert; to separate & highlight the societal aspects. It would be appropriate to skip to around 25:00...to get to real business.
