- I travelled all the way to Luleå, Sweden to spend 100 hours with the SHL organization Luleå Hockey. In this video we spend tons of time with their athletes who even have NHL and Olympic experience. We go to three hockey games, including a trip on the road with their men’s team. The Women’s team is a hockey dynasty winning 5 of the last 6 SDHL Championships. What a legend, hope you enjoyed your stay here in Sweden and that you were treated well by our people. We are from different cultures and speak different languages, but still share the same love for a sport, we are one big hockey family.
Next time you come here, I can only recommend you to experience a match between Djurgården - AIK, Two teams from Stockholm, the game is also called the Twin Derby, one of the oldest and fiercest rival meetings in the world (They literally hates each other, a lot of history and local patriotism involved in this derby.) They are also two of the most successful associations in Sweden in our two biggest sports, hockey and football (soccer), Djurgården and AIK have had a tough time in recent years and was relegated to our second tier league, but the games still have the world's best audience in Hockey, you won't regret exploring this fan culture. Can confirm these games are absolutely electric. I was visiting Stockholm from New York in October and happened to catch these two teams playing at Avicii arena and it was the most fun game/crowd I have ever witnessed.

Amazing video, loved that you covered both the men's and women's hockey programs! So happy this came up on my recommended videos. I learned a lot more about Swedish hockey and loved the behind the scenes content. Also the Turkish Pepper candies really do kick your butt but you were super brave to bite into it so good for you! I think North American hockey can take notes on how well the teams there work to accommodate their imports and make the experience fun and positive for our imports here! You would never know that there is a language barrier or anything, I look forward to watching more of your videos! Great job! Would love to see an Ilves or Tappara video with the new Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland. As a Canadian, I love going to Tampere and I think you'll have a great time there, they are super accommodating. oh man this is awesome i grew up in luleå and all my family lives there loved the team my whole life. so cool that u got to go up there and see a few games and meet everyone.

So We have forbidden players with long names to take part - so that at NHL lastnames are easier to say... Shortest name IS AHO - Sebastian - but even Sweden has come out a player by the very same name ! then #2 Patrik LAINE - #3 Erik HAULA #4 Juuse SAROS #5 Joel ARMIA #6 and Mikael KOTKANIEMI ! as He was Montreal 1st round Draft pick - but later Hurriganes at Caroline bought HIM out !

The best thing about playing in Sweden is that people are friendly and honest, that there is no language barrier and that the standard is so high. Most of it is so professional. It is easier to feel at home there than in many other European countries.
Sweden's definitely a top spot to be playing for sure!

@kriho02 in terms of pure hockey derbies, for sure. I know Skellefteå say they hate Björklöven more but they aren't going to play each anytime soon. And AIK-DIF is a derby in all sports

I am from the UK and went to my first NHL game in Detroit last month. Since then I have been saying my next trip will be to Sweden to see some hockey and oh boy does this put the NHL to shame. The atmosphere is electric!

You have plane from London to Vaxjo Sweden. Good team and the atmosphere is really really good. Top notch 👍 takes only 1,5 hour with plane also.
Nothing beats the Luleå atmosphere. I mostly see them on the road due to geographical challenges but wow do they really bring a crowd and a pulse wherever they go. Hope you come to Sweden and hope you go north! Welcome and enjoy!

Goosebumps all over or as we say in sweden, ståpäls. ;) Luleå is the Philadelphia Flyers of Sweden, hard working, hard nosed team that's tough to play against, and of course hated by most other team supporters. That's how we like it! 😝 Great video, hope this shows you North Americans that we can play hockey too, and that our supporters rock almost every hockey barn in the country! 🤘🤠🤘

@@RobertGreeley well if you wanna get an SM-Liiga team (Finnish first league). I'm personally an Porin Ässät fan, but TPS and Ilves are good too. There's also Mestis (second league), from there I would recommend Kiekko-Espoo or Jokerit

Honestly, it's very similar!
In peewees we'd play Saturday at 5:00AM, we had 2 minute shifts, timed, maybe 5/6 shifts, that's it for the week, it's all about ice time, 10 minutes a week isn't much time to learn.

Yes, they dont appericiate if you buy a standing ticket (that is usually cheaper for the hardcore fans instead of seats) just to stand around and be quite and not participate.

I use Canon! So, the bodies I travel with are the R5 and R6 right now. Lenses all depends on the situation but 70-200 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, and 14-35 f4
Craziest derbys in Sweden are actually Djurgården-AIK the Stockholm teams or Mora-Leksand the big ”Dala”-rivalry

Train hard, network, and don’t give up would be my advice but noted I never made it past high school and provincial hockey in Canada

I’m a figure skater but I support a ice hockey team (Sheffield steelers) people might of heard of that team bc the accident but it take a lot of practice for this

did the womens game have even 100 fans??? how does it exist over there? Are all the teams one enitity so the main mens team helps to fund the others including jrs?
Total attendance for that game was around 200, which is what they tend to average for regular season, going up to around a high of 3,000 in the playoffs! It is one entity so the Men's, Women's, and Junior programs are all under the same organization!
Those northern teams have the most passionate fans, in southern Sweden football steals too much of the money and attention.
Didn't see any teams from down south but the crowd at these games was indeed, incredible!

What would you say classifies something as a derby game then?
@@RobertGreeley The two teams have to be situated in the same city or in the same area ish and there has to be a rich history behind it. For me, those criteria are decisive whether a matchup should be refered to as a ”game” or a ”derby”.
You should really visit Stockholm sometime to experience it. The soccer games are crazier tho with nearly 50 000 people in the arena. Hockey is limited to 14 000, but still a fantastic experience.
