We really enjoyed this video Paul. we love steam trains, we were very impressed with your video, we often go to Blue Anchor in Somerset and catch a Steam Train to Watchet and Minehead thankyou for sharing it with us regards Gary and Julie Smith.
Thank you Gary & Julie! Hope you had a good Christmas - Happy New Year to you both. Glad you enjoyed this little wintery look at the Severn Valley Railway. Take care, Paul
I don't know why, but the sites and the sounds of the trains awakens the little boy in me again. I wish I could hold on to that feeling forever. Thanks Paul.👍
Thank you Daryl. I know exactly what you mean! I think there were many other filming and photographing from that bridge on Saturday morning who felt the same way. Cheers, Paul
Thank you Michael! Yes, so much railway infrastructure there - both National Rail and the SVR. I had not filmed from that footbridge before - it is a good location. I need to find some new spots for next time now. Cheers, Paul
Hi Roy! OMG! Yes, it was! I was hoping to film a little more, but I was cold, and snow was forecast. Still, nice seeing the Severn Valley Railway in the frost. Hope you are having a good weekend. Cheers, Paul
Hi Paul! Wow, that moment when the steam trains passed under the area where you were standing was amazing. All those billowing puffs and the sound of the engines were wonderful. I loved hearing their whistles, too! Such an awesome event for train buffs and regular folk alike! I enjoyed this very much!
Thank you Donna! Yes, it was quite the moment. The odd thing is, I couldn't see any of what you see in the first half of the video with my own eyes, due to the high parapet on that footbridge - I only had the little LCD Screen on the back of my camera to guide me with focussing and composition - so when I was editing it, that was the first time I saw it (and heard it!) properly! My camera was mounted on a very tall tripod. It was quite the occasion, and I think the cold morning adds to the atmosphere. Hope you had a good Christmas & New Year - all the best for the coming year. Paul
Good Morning Paul and winter wonderland greetings from a very cold and snowy Poland. What a wonderful video. Brought back memories of standing on footbridges watching the trains and locos pass underneath. SVR is definitely one of my favourite lines and thanks to you, I can enjoy it all over again
Thank you Michael! We haven't had much snow here - yet! Might be some later in the week. Yes, the SVR and the GWSR are certainly my two favourite heritage lines in the region that I cover here on UA-cam. I hope to be back on both of them later in the year, as well as the SDR in Devon (1st visit on my channel there) and the WSR in Somerset, all being well. Take care, Paul
Thanks Paul, have enjoyed some vicarious steam train action on this very rainy Sunday. There’s nothing like the sound and smell of a steam locomotive wherever you live. I laughed at your reference to Horwich and Harwich. The latter is where I live and, over the years, have had post going astray to Horwich.
Thank you Liz! Yes, conditions a bit different today - bit wet and mild now, though some areas did have some heavy snow overnight. I had to look up where Horwich was after writing my notes, not heard of it before. Apparently, it is in Greater Manchester. I know Harwich though, as I used to live in Essex for a while (my daughter was born there). Glad you enjoyed it. Take care, Paul
Ah, yes, the giant Swindon Works. My neighbour here near Stroud used to work there too. The STEAM Museum which I visited last year, does a good job I think of bringing it to life. Cheers, Paul
Hi Paul, Marvellous sounds, you really captured them well, some great editing to get them to the fore, especially towards the end. It looked a perfect day for filming steam and the railway obliged with some perfect plumes of steam, no clagging at all. I liked the way you introduced each segment, such as a busy day too. Excellent film to start the year, well done!! All the best!!
Thank you David! One of my two favourite heritage railway lines (the other - the GWSR, you saw on my channel on Christmas Day). So much going on there on Saturday. I could maybe have filmed and photographed for a little longer, but bad weather was forecast, and I didn't want to get stuck driving home, so the video was a little shorter than I had intended it to be. Thanks for your kind words - yes - there was a lot of tweaking on the audio of the steam trains to bring out the best effect. I will return here again later in the year, but I need to cover a couple of heritage lines we haven't seen on the channel before first, namely the Swanage Railway and the South Devon Railway, which also had a good winter gala I think, but it is a little too far for me to travel there at this time of the year. Take care, Paul
@westcountrywanderings Sounds great Paul, I think you would enjoy visiting Old Harry Rocks if you go to Swanage looks a bit far out of town if your on foot. Corfe is wonderful mind!!
I'll be honest Paul. I'm not really into trains but this was a really good watch. Some cracking telephoto shots there mate. I love the perspective it gives. The cold weather helped to beef up the steam coming from the trains. Really dramatic stuff & brilliantly filmed. 😊😊
Thanks Martin! Yes, I try and mix my channel up a bit as you know - what one viewer may like, may not appeal to another, but quite a few of my subscribers like steam engines. This is one of my favourite heritage lines passing through some stunning scenery. Great to hear from you, and glad you enjoyed watching it too. Yes, I do think a frosty morning adds a certain something to the images. Cheers! Paul
Thank you Darren! Yes, that footbridge above Kidderminster SVR is an excellent viewpoint - there were many of us photographers and videographers there. The only issue is it has a high parapet, so you can't see over it with the naked eye. Thankfully, I have a very lengthy extendable tripod that can get over it. I was relying totally on the screen on the back of my camera to see what was going on - others had steps with them, but I didn't fancy lugging that around too, especially from where I had parked. Cheers Daz! Paul
@@westcountrywanderings it was a great video Paul, i think it was Earlstoke Manor that pulled us when i done my Video on the West Somerset Railway! i will take a look back! yes it was i just checked.
Thank you Malcolm! Yes, I think they were all steam heated - I don't think the cold weather put off either people travelling on the SVR or spectators too. Take care, Paul
there must have been a different signal person at Bewdley South on Monday as all trains were held at the signal opposite the wildlife park. The hanger in the foreground and airstrip seem to be abandoned now. Caroline.
Yes, I always wondered if that airstrip was linked to the Army Rifle Range in WWII, or if it was a private concern Caroline? Burlish Top is a great viewpoint though - one of my favourites.
Hi Paul. Earlstoke spending next few years at West Somerset Railway. 75069 is partly owned by our family with hundreds of others with shares in it. Were you aware that 1450 worked out of Gloucester shed on the Chalford Donkeys. Caroline.
Thanks Caroline - yes, I do hope to capture Erlestoke in action on the WSR later in the year. It is amazing how big the railway infrastructure was in the Donkey period at Chalford on the Golden Valley line - nothing to see there now - just a little housing developement. Yes, I saw later that 1450 headed further south after working on the Severn Valley Line to Gloucester Shed, but I did not know that 1450 worked to Chalford on the Golden Valley stoppers. I see Horton Rd Depot site in Gloucester has now been sold, and it is going to housing - remember that packed with locos in the 1970s, and used later by Cotswold Rail Co after their move from Moreton-in-Marsh and Long Marston. Thanks for that info Caroline!
I had to watch this twice- it was very enjoyable- such a beautiful steamy atmospheric video! Considering you couldn’t actually even see what you were filming on the bridge & could only use the viewfinder! I particularly liked the view of the trains passing over the viaduct- it looked like you may have been the only photographer there capturing that angle? Thanks Paul!
Thank you Diana! Yes, a lot of this I was seeing (and hearing - the audio is very different to what I could hear on the bridge, as I used a directional mic) for the first time properly when I was editing it! There were a few of us on the bridge that morning - all getting cold, although one young lady was planning to stay there until 7pm!! Cheers, Paul
Oh, gosh, yes, I did, although not as long as some hardy souls! I got there in Kidderminster around 8am, and to the bridge at 8.30am to set up - there were already some there when I arrived, and some were going to stay on until 7pm!! It took me all evening when I got home to thaw out again! But, it was good to see lots in action. Cheers Shaun, Paul
Thank you. The first part of the video was shot from the footbridge next to Kidderminster SVR. The second part was at Falling Sands, not far from the Wyre Forest Leisure Centre. The final scenes were shot from Burlish Top a nature reserve near a large housing estate on the edge of Kidderminster and overlooking the Safari Park. Hope this helps! Cheers, Paul

@westcountrywanderings it turned out marvellous and looks like the stuff you see in the movies! Great work. 😀
Absolutely marvelous, you always seem to find the best viewpoints.

I do try - I will have to find some new ones for the next time I visit there.

hi paul. back in the 70s spent some weekends rubbing down between the frames of 2968 as it then was. caroline
Yes, glad that this sole Stanier Mogul has survived - well done for playing your role in helping to preserve her Caroline.
Plenty of steam on a cold, misty day - and steam-heated carriages too, I assume. Thank you.
