- This video discusses a sample problem on sight distance in vertical curves.
Sample problem:
A 5% grade intersects a -3.4% grade at station 1 + 990 at elevation 42.30 m. A summit parabolic curve will be designed connecting the two grades with the following specifications:
Design speed: 60 kph
Height of driver's eye from the pavement: 1.37 m
Height of an object over the pavement ahead: 100 mm
Perception-reaction time: 0.75 s
Coefficient of friction between the tires and the pavement: 0.15
Determine the following:
1. stopping sight distance
2. length of curve
3. elevation of the highest point of the curve
