It’s crazy how much these sealed VHS tapes are going for. I picked up a Predator screener at an estate sale in 2018 for $1 because I thought it was cool. I searched the internet and could find nothing on it. I put it in a box and forgot about it until last summer when I saw the market explode. Found a guy on Instagram that couldn’t really tell me much about it, but he knew it was rare. Sealed screener with watermarks. He suggested if I listed it on EBAY to put “IGS Ready” in the title. IGS is a VHS grader and collectors look for this in their search. I listed it and it sold for $3550 on auction. I also listed a The Santa Clause at the same time. It sold for $50. Incredible how far that $2 I spent on both tapes went!

Someone offered me $2000 and we compromised at $2250. By the way, you could have saved yourself a little by shipping it by media mail with insurance for the full value.
@@kgb4187 Not necessarily. I've never had anything damaged or lost that was shipped media mail - but I've had priority packages that were damaged. Regardless, it's still an insured package but at a cheaper price. That's the point I'm making.

I was just at a yard sale last week that had over a hundred different titles of VHS all sealed. I got them all for $30. Unfortunately, I have so much in my death pile to get through that I probably won't even start looking those up until closer to winter. Keep up the good work!

Vincent - Thx for the pointers about what features to look for. During the 1980's, VHS were priced fairly high and were seldom aimed at household purchases. You're further along this path than I am (BTTF is a great find!) but I have an observation based upon the 1990's sealed VHS's that I've researched. The VHS's that do not bear watermarks are almost always from Walmart (some Target I believe) So, my hypothesis is that the watermarked ones were being distributed through channels that the studio trusted less and needed to exercise higher level of percausion. Studios were not concerned about the huge retailers (such as Walmart) - heck WMart probably bought almost directly from the studio if not directly. That's my theory for now anyway. I can see why graders look for the watermarks but an authentic Walmart price sticker serves almost the same purpose. Your thoughts?
Just an FYI, priority is not the only type of packaging you can put insurance on. You can insure media mail as well. Not sure the max value you can insure. But be aware, priority is not your ONLY option. Thanks Vince, congrats on the amazing sale!

Nice score my big score is a Batman adventure number 12 Mint Condition comic. The first appearance of Harley Quinn 50 Cent at our local thrift store. going for roughly over 1 grand. But for me I put that in my collection rare gem. I just wanted to read the comic not knowing it's worth?. It's still going up in value especially if I get it graded. Good score leader.

In February I found a copy of teen wolf with about 5 or 6 small tears in the seal. It ended up fetching $1k because it was some rare print run. I paid a whole quarter for it at a rummage sale! Nice find on the back to the future tape! GL with the sales this week!

Very educational when it comes to selling stuff on eBay I appreciate you taking and explaining to everybody how eBay works the mailing process and the insurance process that ensures me that there are more careful people out there that are selling on eBay besides yourself and that I will consider start buying stuff off of eBay instead of buying stuff at stores and buy stuff at garage sales
All the sealed vhs I find if it is not worth listing individually I just save them to make a big sealed vhs lot. Just a thought! We have found a couple decent ones but nothing like that. Congrats!
Yep, I would not of touched it at all. I would of packed it away while at auction, of course not seal the box yet. Once sold and you got the money, pay for the priority mail, insurance, signature, the whole 9 yards. But yeah I wouldnt even put fingerprints on it because it could hurt the grading.
I know it is a living, but damn. Ebay makes a crap ton of money off your work. Fees on taxes, that just takes the cake. Good venue for sales audience, as with everything it is footsteps in front of merchandise but those fees on taxes are killing me.
If US shipping is the same as the UK and Australia, the insurance is a bit of a con, if it is a loss they will ask for your invoice ie your buy-in cost, so yes you can make one up but strictly in your case that would be 50 cents and not your sale price... crazy but true.
Nice find man. Btw 1.15lb priority is not the same price as 2lbs. Once you hit the actual 2lb mark the price goes up. So never round up, that 1 oz puts you in a new bracket
Had the same thing with a PlayStation 1 long box game. NFL Gameday sealed. Turned 50 cents into over $1300. Thought I'd get $20-30 for it. That's why we do auction if we don't know for sure.
Wow you should have gotten this graded and made way more...but then you would have had to wait a lot longer. The buyer will send this in to get graded. I did not know you could use USPS Priority Large Flat Rate boxes and then put a normal Priority label on it. I always thought you have to pay for a Flat Rate Large Priority label when using the large flat rate box? Congrats on the awesome profit. Could you imagine finding something like this everyday. That would be epic but all you can do is keep trying. Now everyone is going to think old VHS sealed are worth $1300...LOL
Dude this exact thing just happened to me except with a 1977 Star Wars vhs. I bought it for basically nothing it was lying around for almost a year and when I finally went to list it I was completely shocked and wish I did an auction like you but it sold within 20 minutes for $850 then I had a guy message me along with a few other people saying he just barely missed it and would have bid $5000-$10000 for it lol

update: the guy ended up sending me a 22 pound box of individually bubble wrapped sealed vhs probably total gross of $800-$1,500 worth of vhs as a thank you.

Media mail probably has a higher chance of getting lost or damaged though. The less time in the postal system the better.

That was not a flat rate box. That was the normal 12x12x8 box that you can order from their website. It’s just normal priority shipping
