You go online but can’t seem to get through…and when you do, the tickets are all gone…but then they pop up on a different site at a vastly inflated price. What happened? SOLUTION:
1- Have a major artist do a major concert.
2- Let the tickets go on sale, let everything go as usual, scalping bots buying all the tickets and everything.
3- The MINUTE they sell out, have the artist make a surprise announcement that the concert will be a FREE concert and that anyone who bought an original ticket with their name on it can get a refund “at the door”.
SIMPLE! The artist will make tons of money from the scalpers and nobody will buy scalped tickets once they realize the concert is free. The scalpers will not show up to the venue to get their money back because they can’t.
Aaannnnndddd I bet nobody will read this because people don’t really care about anything these days.
Why would an artist do a free concert. They only do concerts to make money.
I am surprised that there aren't more artists tackling these issues. Their fans are hurting.
Jacob most artist don't care because there getting paid either way because the tickets were sold

Scalpers ensure their ticket sales...
@@rainmayhem7043 That's crap mentality , there getting the regular price on a ticket , not the prices sold at illegal prices , your bankrupt , dude !!!!!
Young people are getting fleeced in way too many key areas, e.g., education, housing, gasoline, salaries, groceries, insurance, on and on. Now, for what should be a reasonable price for entertainment to take a break from the intensity of life that is way too intense, young people are getting reemed for this too. We have to make this reeming stop and carry a severe penalty.
All zombies , feeding the crimes without conscious!!!!!
Laws are not going to stop it, lawmakers are not going to stop it, governments are not going to stop it. Only the consumer, one person at a time is going to stop it by making the scalpers eat all the extra tickets they purchased. Consumers need to stop buying tickets from places that hold tickets hostage for higher and higher bids. This is a case where only the consumer can step up, say no more and it make a change.
It might be effective for performers and theatres to open ticket agencies that boot bots and which have clients register with an ID that is limited to no more than 1 performance every three months (an average consumer's ticket outing).
Lol. Only in America does your comment make sense. America, where people have such little faith in government, they enable it's ineffectiveness.
That's a ridiculous dream of a solution. You're saying the fix is to just have thousands of people decide to boycott their favorite event? No, the responsibility relies in the ticket sellers
Akon album
Bring back the days when you had to physically stand in a line, and were limited to 4 tickets. Those were the days, when you would camp-out for a couple of nights to get tickets to see a band.
I wonder if the performers are benefitting from these scalpers? It really seems like the consumer, by refusing to pay the scalper's prices, is the way this stops. Capitalism's #1 driving force is the idea of supply and demand.
Of course they are, they're selling out their show quickly. That means
1. They're safe they know they've made their money and paid the vendue.
2. Gives them marketing material "Sell out show", "Sold out within X" that kind of thing to make out they're bigger and more important
3. Give them additional fan engagement opportunities such as going on CBC and talking about how they care about their fans and scalpers are bad or blame it on "the internet" but don't void any scalper tickets despite knowing the scalper names.
It's all a big scam. If they really wanted to stop scalping they could. Matching names is easy for software, matching IPs is even easier. Or they could just take it back offline and distribute like they used to through "authorised vendors" which were usually a ticket agent or music shops.
They can stop it overnight, they won't because it benefits them
The superbowl is the biggest target for scalpers. $10k usd is outrageous for a game but they get away with it.
It's just entertainment, why does it matter if someone resells a bunch of tickets. If people cannot afford to buy the scalped tickets, then just find some other form of entertainment to enjoy. Instead of worrying about and investigating scalpers, why not make it illegal to mark up and profit on basic needs like housing, food, heating etc. And also property taxes need to be eliminated for a person's home, taxing registered businesses and apartment owners is fine but by taxing a person's personal property means a person does not actually own the property.
thank you! waste of journalism.
If they are aware of the names the scalpers are using to mass purchase tickets, cant they cancel and refund the tickets they buy? They could then collect the names of the real fans logging in to buy and miss out, and offer these canceled scalper tickets to the fans?
Yes they could. But nobody cares enough about really doing something it! Sooo sad
Great work. Frustrating, but glad these types of things are brought to light for the public to become aware.

An excellent show. I am delighted to see that the Fifth Estate makes it public. And that's how things get done. Take it into the public domain. Let's work on getting rid of scalpers. They are pimps. And like a pimp running his stable and the dealer selling his drugs; he is not even a rogue (that's too nice). This guy is a creep. Lets' screw him to the wall. And let's be honest be responsible for your actions. Legal/schmegal--it's your actions that count.
Is the Marco from Degrassi @1:43?? 😱
what about the canadian law -when a canadian citizen is committing crimes out side of canada they can be charged for that crime in canada. why dont they use the legal tools they have and get rid of this guy?
If reporters can find him how come law enforcement is unable to monitor him. The “law” should be based on the artist losing a fan-base and what about the British MP who seeks to regulate. The man could be called before a hearing committee to give an account for using false identities, internationally, via commerce. Isn’t that a federal offense?
sure, it sucks, but this is what the internet and free music along with people not buying music anymore has led artists to in order to feed themselves, record music, pay for studio time and just be able to make music. What are you looking for? We used to pay 18 bucks a CD and pay money for MTV etc. Now the music is free so they can only make money from tours and merch.. Tickets used to be 25 to 35 bucks a pop. If you think the artist isn't getting a kick back you are nuts but you need to take care of them. Let us not mention, that you could sell tickets for fans to crawl under that bus.
If you really don't like scalpers either stop buying tickets from them or stop moaning about them.
yup! i learned my lesson the hard way and never attended something so unnecessary since.
People are being fleeced only because they are willing to pay outrageous prices. If people don't buy, then there's no market and scalpers will lose money. The prices should be going to support the performers and it's not. Why do people feel it mandatory to see something that they can't afford?
just to show off on social media for cool points.
7:29 I really admire people with such great imaginations. That commercial was hilarious.
What's Adamo Rigguero doing on a Fifth Estate episode?
This is the end!
Hold your breath and count to ten.
If artists, performers and their production/management teams really want to do something about this issue they can, instantly. They don't have to wait for laws or police or anything else.
The answer is simple, go back to basics remove tickets from online sale. Return tickets to in person sale from authorised vendors like they used to be. Overnight that puts resale businesses out of business. It allows limits to be set and enforced. And it means if someone starts trying to get around the rules by physically going to different sales vendors to buy to the limit at each for resale, they can be quickly and easily blacklisted.
Also, allow fans who can not attend a show to have their ticket refunded officially. That instantly removes any shadow of legitimacy for websites like Stubhub from the market.
All this shows is that the economics of concert tickets is completely screwed up. If you can buy some thing one second and turn around and sell it for ten or a hundred times more the next second, then the unit is not being valued properly in the first place.
Omg i wanted to buy the dude in the red top a ticket i felt so sorry for him. This is a huge problem in the UK.

@@justlivemyway out of curiosity😂 I would like to know why you ask!
@@lovemezay I never got an answer to my question then why am I suppose to turn into an open book? If the person I asked the question answers me then I will answer you.
I'm not a big fan of concerts, mostly fights. But I would definitely buy from the venue. And I wouldn't never go see adele even if they paid me
hahahaha! all these "artists" are over hyped and over priced. they're the real scalpers!
There has to be a better way. Adele herself would hate this, I am sure she will find out, but can she and other artists do anything about it?
I am glad that the Paradise Papers are exposing all these unethical practices in so many areas.
I am British, and so many people here want to get rid of the monarchy, part of this is to show how the hypocrisy of those high profile members, specifically Charles, who uses his position to lobby MPs and influence policies in favour of the very rich and powerful.
I saw a documentary on UA-cam proving Charles has undue influence on Conservative politicians which is against the idea of the monarchy as being figureheads with no influence in parliament.
It also showed how much the taxpayer pays for these people, and the fiction that the UK makes a huge profit from overseas tourism because they come to see the royals. That has been used to justify having these clowns, who are also racist.
They have no place in modern society.
I need. to try to find that documentary again.
Buy from the venue.
chokinonashes61 surname the paradise papers exposed the rich and there tax dodging. Yet the governments have done nothing to the rich who broke the law by dodging there taxes. And it is the poor who foot the bill when taxes get raised
How can the Artist be sooo cut off from the public that they don't know about it?
They know. They want a sold out concert. Performers often hold a couple hundred of the best seats for their own friends and family.
E-lizard-beth is behind all it. she only looks evil.
I noticed that even the airline do something similar, they sell you tickets separate so you can pay more if you want to fly together. 🤔 interesting.
thank you for shedding light on the situation. hopefully more can be do so fans of all ranges of income can enjoy shows
I just wish that Canada would use the UK model on so many rules, regulations and government bills where it comes to protecting its citizens whether it be legal or monetary
Wat? big huge Internet corporations involved in shady/ illegal business business practices? Noooo stop lying!. How did you think they got so big?, and keep making millions of of dollars?
Why are they calling people who buy 1000's across the world scalpers?
A scalper was someone who stood near a venue and and sold a few tickets at a $20 markup on the day of the event.
So now you know how a lot of people got rich, not hard hard work like the rest of us
Of course Ebay is involved they have a long history of letting unscrutable sellers to use their site to pawn misrepresented crap to the public. Why would you think they would care anymore about the public who are being screwed by these scalpers?
i feel like this is criminal..
Hmm... why don't venues tie a group of tickets to a specific person(s) and that person needs to show ID when they get to the venue with their ticket?
ZeroContentSF I believe they are beginning to do that in places. Simple and effective solution hopefully
and if you're buying them as a gift? Dummy...
Julian, is that you or your bot?
this is a well known problem with online shopping, that is currently ruining just about any market covered by etailers. electronics manufacturer nvidia released a new product line recently, & as soon as theyre released, theyre all bought up at msrp, & reposted by scalpers at 3x msrp. these are buyers who even use software bots to do the buying faster than any human can do it. its a sad aspect of online shopping, as this wasnt a problem with brick n mortar stores. the best thing you can do is not buy from scalpers, let them eat their investment
!! NOTORIOUS !!
Easy fix...stop selling tickets online go back to the old ways to buy tickets ...the LINE
Kimberly Worthing you will see Laville 3 am at the gates.
Kimberly Worthing You got it if you can't make the trip to stand in line then you don't need to see it that bad
They won’t let u do that anymore
That can still promote manual scalping business - nonsensical solution
That is punishing the many for the actions of the few.
Just stop buying outrageously priced tickets. Period. End of discusssion. Decide what is more important to you: Your money or giving your money to people who obtain the good you want in an unethical and (possibly) illegal manner? When no one buys tickets and no one is in the audience, the band and ticket sellers like Ticketmaster/StubHub will fix the problem. Right now, no one has any incentive to make changes because they are still getting paid what they want . . . they are a business and their entire goal is to MAKE money. The SHAREHOLDERS are who they have to answer to at the end of the day, not the consumer. They do not care what the consumer pays in the end as long as the commerical seller and the band obtain the amount of money they want. For example, let's say you sold a couch at your garage sale and got your asking price of $100. Would you give a care if the person who bought it from you drove to the next neighborhood and sold it for $200? No, you wouldn't. You might be upset with yourself for not researching the internet for the average amount a couch like yours was going for at other garage sales in your area. And kick yourself a bit for being naieve. But you would also think that the person who bought from you was a pretty darn good bargain hunter. Are you aware that on every concert tour the same songs are played in the same order? The musicians physically do the same jumps, moves, dances, reaching into the crowd, saying the same things to the crowd from the very first concert to the very last one of that particular tour. It is all choreographed before they even step on the first tour bus. Most concerts are recorded and then sell copies. So, go out and buy yourself a fabulous 90-inch (or whatever size) 4k top of the line TV with the money you would have given to ticket scalpers (include the outrageous prices charged to park your car). Buy a copy of the concert you would have spent only 3 hours at. Then sit down with your friend(s) and enjoy free parking, cheap alcohol/food that you didn't have to wait in line for, a clean, always-available bathroom where you don't have to wait in line, and watch the SAME show from better view/closer than first row seats. Jump around and dance without the fear of being judged or, worse yet, being subjected to the drunk fools next to you that make the concert unenjoyable. Not only will you probably spend just as much (or a less) on the TV/Parking/Food/Beverages than you did on the concert tickets, but now you have a kicka** TV to watch/listen with for years to come. You can revisit that concert any time for free. Heck, buy a pair of awesome noise-cancelling headphones so you can get the best sound possible when you rewatch the concert. Now, isn't that the SMART way to spend your hard-earned money? Also consider traveling to a less desireable area of the country where tickets are more likely to be available from Ticketmaster. In 1988/89, I drove from Chicago to Springfield, Illinois, to see Def Leppard. My ticket cost half as much in Springfield and I was on the floor at stage level. Even when I figured in the cost of gas and time, I was still better off than if I had seen the show in Chicago. In fact, I had so much money left over that two weeks later I saw them again but this time in Champaign, Illinois. Again, I was on the floor at the stage. It's your money; don't spend it foolishly.
Once again, great thinking here. Stop attending a luxury (not at all a necessity) that you YOURSELF want to attend in order to stop re-sellers. Maybe we can all stop driving cars (not at all a necessity) in order to lower the price of overpriced cars? Dummy...
This is what people worry about...
first world problems. am i right?
Notice how quite it’s gone, just as it has about the Banksters!
These scalpers are nothing but a cancer! They are the same people who buy a pair of limited shoes 👟 for $200 and sell for $400. The real fan of the shoe goes to buy a pair only to find out they are sold out. But when you look around you see absolutely nobody wearing them, but instead all the pairs of shoes online for sale at double sometimes even triple the price!
it's called a hustle baby. im sure you understand ;3
The buyer's are the real criminals here , feeding the crime .Maybe accessory to commit a crime !!!!!!
I don’t think I love any artist that much to go through this bs.
This seemed to end prematurely.
Why cant the artists or who is selling the original tickets insert a clause in the terms of service that prohibits reselling of tickets and they cancel every ticket they see on stub hub
Because they have bribed the lawmakers to prohibit such restrictions
The problem is that you're punishing the people who have a legitimate reason to sell a couple tickets because they can't can't go to a performance. Fine Ticket Hub big time for letting scalpers sell the tickets for huge profits! Maybe when they start losing money themselves they will start to care about stopping this. But not until then.
its just too easy
And your Canadian government is doing what, oh that’s right nothing!
Nobody is being forced to buy tickets on StubHub. It's not a crime.
if you're stupid enough, that's on you. crying over spilt milk.
that young should be put in trial

I am not an attorney.
I would think if you are making money off of an artist's reputation and popularity then you owe the artist a share of your profit. Perhaps if these resellers get sued by Adelle, Justin Bieber, and many more this practice will end.
Scalpers are scumbags who need to be ripped off at every level. They have no respect for the fan. Entertainers also are also guilty of letting it happen to their fans. Government is very guilty of zero protection to consumers!! All of them should be ripped off at every cause to pay back their guilt!
Tim DaSilva why should anybody have respect for you because you’re a fan?
Does anyone on here know this person?
COVID-19...problem solved 😆 ain’t nobody going to concerts ha!
There is nothing illegal about what he is doing.
I get selling front row tickets for thousands but nose blender tickets are meant to be cheap so poor fans can go
I wouldn't pay any more than 50 euros to see anyone sing a few songs, and i don't understand anyone who would. So these scammers will never get my money.
Sorry, but this is just standard capitalism so I'm not sure what the issue is. The venues are underpricing their tickets and the "scalpers" are just acting as middle men. They're doing something that any other wholesalers does.
And he needs to spend a long time in prison and the tickets given out for free.... Then maybe he will learn a tough lesson...
take there busy take there money and go to jail for them wake up world make you r money the wright way if you are selling tickets for someone the ticket seller should pay its there mistreak 10 dollar on sell ? ....... everyone stay from corona V cheers people
Don't airlines do this internally? They price tickets based on demand... Maybe Ticketmaster should do that too. As scalpers buy the price goes up and thus raises the price base for them.
One very direct and aggressive way to stop this wholesale scalping is fo the artists involved to not charge an arm and a leg for concerts. I know that Foo Fighters used to price tickets really low (I don't know if this is still their practice) so scalpers didn't even bother with the buying dozens of tickets. It wasn't worth their trouble and circumvented the issue.
Clearly you don't understand basic economics. If you price tickets really low then you're incentivizing scalpers to buy them even more because the profit margins will be bigger. The fact that there is a market for scalpers shows that artists don't actually price their tickets high enough. The solution is either that the artists price their tickets closer to market value (i.e. higher) so that scalpers don't bother trying to re-sell because they can't profit or completely outlaw scalping with harsh consequences.
@@icebergslim3575 The problem with going the route of the artist charging much more is you hurt the public. I agree with the second part, Completely outlaw scalping with harsh consequences.
Simple Hand over 50% of the Scalp price to the Artist
Why should the scalpers get any money? Do you think the artist wants to stop something that get rewarded for?
Would have been super easy to tell the story without all the emotional BS involved
Adel looks like the cowardly lion
I know what you can do dont buy a ticket no1 is forcing you to buy these tickets and if people wouldnt buy them these people wouldnt be doing what their do.
Yes that sounds good. But you're giving too much credit to the sheep people.

If you want your tickets at retail you need to work hard to get them. I got Adele tickets at cost 😛😛😛😛.
I see nothing wrong with what they’re doing. I think that scalpers are taking a great opportunity and making a profit.

A Scumbag reply.
they just mad cause they're not the one running the hustle.
How to stop scalpers, easy make the tickets non transferable.
I am almost thinking the same
Here's the simplest solution I think to all of this...if you can't afford the luxury of attending a concert, just don't, and stop whining about it. Plan a date with your friends and sit by a pair of speakers.
Is that you Julien or your bot?
Julien, if you can’t afford to pay your fair share of taxes don’t start a business.
