  • Another project from a viewer! This one goes further than my usual repairs since I also added and modified details and repainted the whole model. I'm not the best there is at this work, but I think it went well overall! Any details I couldn't get were printed instead.

    Great job! I was supposed to tackle this project, but life got in the way and i could not complete it. So glad to see it came out well, and my friend loves it! Amazing job!

    Amazing work. That smokebox cover and added detail makes this look like a high-end brass model.

      What’s the diameter of that smoke box cover? I have one of these models and I’d like to detail it like that.

    Wow, great job! Ya had me nervous at the beginning when the shell didn’t want to come off. I was afraid something was gonna break, ya know? But, all’s well that end’s well and yer final showing of the details and paintwork was top notch.

      Thanks! There were a couple parts that had to be fixed, but they all went back together!

    Outstanding Job once again, it looks wonderful. I can't wait for what's next! You've inspired me to try and get working on my own models much more than before, and I've been working on repairing and maybe even super detailing a Brass 2-8-0 of mine! (Many details were broken off or missing.)

    • @DarthSantaFe
      @DarthSantaFe  9 місяців тому +1

      I hope that goes well for you! Super detailing brass works especially well since you can solder brass details directly to it, making for a much more durable model.

      @@DarthSantaFe Thank you!! I've gotta find a replacement smokebox for it too, old ones got a giant chunk missing in the center that was for the headlight (Whoever had it before me drilled out way too much!)

    Suggestion, use several samal cups or pans for assemblies so that you know what screw or part goes where.

    Great job! I wonder if IHC actually comes from Mehano? Is the middle driving axle prototypically flangeless?

    • @DarthSantaFe
      @DarthSantaFe  9 місяців тому +3

      IHC did get most of their products from Mehano, and you can even find these with their branding over in Europe. Steam engines with 10 driving wheels actually did often have blind center wheels, so they did get that right!

    I'd say it looks great! I'm not amazing with painting either but I find it's really hard to mess up a flat black. Who made the 3D printed parts?

    This is very cool! Looks really good. I was wondering what smokebox front you use for this? I have an IHC 2-10-2 that I'd like to detail and repaint, plus give it a new tender. Do you have any tips for beginners on how to do a kitbash/super-detailing project like that?

    • @DarthSantaFe
      @DarthSantaFe  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! I'm actually not sure what it came from. the owner of the 2-10-2 sent it with the model, and I think it was pulled from a brass steam engine. I think the most important tips I can give are to plan out what you're doing, work slowly and carefully, and make sure you have some filler material and fine sandpaper and files for taking care of any holes or possible mistakes along the way. Just focus on one thing at a time!

    I so wish you would do a video on how to add a headlight, end to end. I entered the add on to my Riverossi heavy pacific, my first model loco, but I dont know what to do.

    • @DarthSantaFe
      @DarthSantaFe  6 місяців тому

      Do you mean adding directional lighting? It's actually pretty simple to do as long as you have a soldering iron. For a new 12V bulb replacing the original Rivarossi bulb, add a 1N4000 series diode to one of the contacts (gray band faces towards the left rail for the front bulb and towards the right rail for a rear bulb). For an LED, add a resistor appropriate for that LED (or get LEDs with pre-installed resistors), then looking at the metal pieces inside the lens, wire the smaller side to the right rail for a headlight or to the left rail for a reverse light.

    Incredible work. Do you have files for the 3D parts?

    • @DarthSantaFe

    Could you provide a list of the parts you added , especially the tank under the smokebox?

    • @DarthSantaFe
      @DarthSantaFe  9 місяців тому

      I used the 190-605 whistle and 190-317 bell from Cal Scale. The boiler front was provided (possibly pulled from an old brass model), and the rest of the parts had to be custom designed and 3D printed.

  • @larmo5633
    @larmo5633 7 місяців тому

    What dod you make the boilers braces from ? I assume you just bent wire?

    • @DarthSantaFe
      @DarthSantaFe  7 місяців тому

      Yes, I use brass wire cut and bent to shape.
