I just found out about them few days ago and started to binge watch. Eva is so special! So lovely! But I think the couple complement each other, that what make their video so fun and educational. I love their styles and how they compare types of food and actually Eva cooking step by step and showing us the process. No professional chefs had done this type of videos so far, and I got tired watching average people just cooking off , you know what I mean..... Kudos for the couple!
Eva is wonderful however it wouldn’t be the same without Harper! They are a package deal both special and they both add just enough spice to the show! Love them as a team! ❤️
The disparity between homemade and store bought bread is much greater in the US than most of Europe. Store bought bread is actually pretty great in Europe. I think it's the wheat in the US, they do something to it. In Europe we also don't really have a concept of Gluten intolerance so I think the US just uses bad wheat especially in their processed breads.
I wasn't expecting a Pasta Grammar until tomorrow. I just poured myself a hot chocolate and then found this. It's like finding a twenty dollar bill in an old coat.
Sarcastic Harper: 🙄”Not all of us know how to make our own bread” Sassy Eva: (mocks Harper’s sarcasm and logic)🤪 “It’s not so difficult” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That had me laughing for quite a bit, love you guys!😆
I picked up a tip from an Italian bakery here in NY state. When making a meatball sub you can cut a loaf of fresh baked Italian bread in half, then pull out the soft inside and fill it with meatballs, sauce, and cheese. because the bread isn't sliced into two pieces you can fit more sauce and meatballs and it makes it much easier to eat. You essentially make a container out of the bread to hold the meatballs and sauce just like Eva did but with a smaller loaf of Italian bread. It's a similar idea to a bread bowl.
Eva won the "wild" sandwich challenge to me. Harper, there are a lot of good bread here in America. Why did you pick the crappy ones? Bread is a very important basic component of a sandwich.
I think (or at least hope) he picks crappy things in purpose, to emphasize and promote how important good quality home made food is, and inspire people in the US to cook more the way Italians do. Plus, a lot of people actually do use those bad but popular and fast kitchen “staples”.

I very much enjoyed this week's episode. The sandwich slected by Eva wa particularly interesting for me because of the origin story of its being used as a carrier by workers to tote their lunches to work. During World War I, Italian-American boys shipping off to the Army in Philadelphia had a similar carrier to take with them to the induction center where they would go to be mustered into the US Army. Their mothers would pack a massive lunch for them which was a huge antipasto of meats, cheeses, and vegetables which they placed into a large loaf of Italian bread with a thick crust which prevented the dressing from leaking out. The Philadelphia Induction Center back then was located on an island in the Delaware River named Hog Island. Those sandwiches became known as "Hoggies," which, over the years were transformed into the current name, hoagies which is still used today for that type of sandwiches. So kudos to Eva and you for nicely bridging the gap between Italy and Italian American food!

I mean, look at this video: she is making a sandwich competition and she cooks her own bread. I don’t even know what else to say, that mozzarella in carrozza was straight out from a dream.
Eva was the best in this video. Would love to see Italian sausage recipes from different regions of Italy. Love watching you, what a fun time I have seeing you both in cook offs together.
Quite honestly they are both good. My Italian-American Momma made the Mozzarella in Carrozza, but with torn basil leaves inside... and also she made an American Grilled Cheese sandwich grilled in olive oil, not typically in butter. As a child, I loved both equally as much. All cultures merge, influence, and borrow from each other. I know that many traditional Italian dishes have been altered here in United States, as compared to their European counterpart because of their availability; such as meat produce.
I loooove the sandwich that Eva made, the edible lunch box, with pasta and meatballs!!!!!! You guys are great, thank you so much, I love these challenges!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my God! Grilled cheese and tomato soup. I'm pushing 70 and this is still one of my favorites. My youngest son loves it too. Anyone remember cream of mushroom soup on toast? LOL. The only thing is that I can't do the processed bread anymore. Big round loaf of Portuguese or Italian bread is my way to go now. So crunchy.
Never had mushroom soup on toast, and I never had tomato soup with grilled cheese until I was an adult. As a Mexican, our 'bread' was mostly home made tortillas. So, we basically made Quesadillas with just cheese inside. An egg sandwich was an egg burrito.
"100 degrees and you return home to expect delicious soup." Well...if it is 'tomato' soup then you likely won't expect much but if you expected chicken noodle soup then there is more to expect. Just another reason why I love this UA-cam channel...so interesting and different from what most people would expect.

Harper’s description of coming in from sledding and having that lunch waiting for you… nailed it! And it was… is still… so good. I’m all for “elevating” foods. But this one oddly needs to stay the same.
It's interesting that the very last sandwich is something that was made also where I live (Val di chiana, Tuscany) by people when they were going hunting. They put pici pasta with ragù or aglione inside a loaf of bread. Mitica Eva 😁🍻
You should look at the history of our 'processed' ingredients and sandwiches! It's very interesting to see, for example the fact that lots of Midwest states didn't have fresh foods like fish etc. so they had to use preservatives and byproducts to mimic it! Would totally watch an episode exploring the histories of classic American foods like the grilled cheese sandwich with canned tomato soup!
They didn't "have to", they had their own kinds of good food and fish from rivers and lakes. The real bulk of the complicated, preservative-filled overhaul in the food industry happened well after good transportation developed. We're talking circa mid-twentieth century.
This episode was Great! Regarding Harper’s meatball sandwich, use sourdough bread (traditional Northern California) and provolone on top of the meatballs.
Hi Pepe, her sandwiches have a head start because she’s using home made bread. The bread makes the sandwich. Secondly, I love to listen to her talk 💐🌹🥰
I've been making your recipes for like 2 weeks now and bringing them into work. I can't wait to hear what my coworkers will say when I bring in a loaf of bread stuffed with spaghetti and meatballs lol

to be really honest i don't know if you're from italy, but those paninis are kinda REALLY heavy to digest, i would prefer a toast with cheddar and prosciutto cotto any day over those, they are delicious but i think usually in italy we eat toasts, calabria is known for a really heavy cuisine let's say but the tomato soup...whyyyyy LOL we NEVER have tomato soups i don't know how you guys eat it or use it as condiment with crunchy bread, it makes it soggyyyyyyyy damn

Unfortunately for you Harper when Eva gets a Wild Card it's a Wild Sandwich she makes that destroys your meatball sub. Only Italians would put pasta and meatballs in a loaf of bread for their lunch.. Too cool to lose.
So I’d love for Harper to try a panelle sandwich. My father-in-law Pino was from Palermo and for years tried to get me to try one. As a American I always thought they looked discussing lol. I finally tried one after years of being married to my wife. To die for! - Matt & Carolina

That final mystery sandwich reminds me of the Bedfordshire clanger and it had the same history as a midday meal for agricultural workers. Rather than bread, it's instead made out of a roll of suet dumpling or pastry filled half with a savoury meat filling and the other half with a sweet fruit filling (with a 'wall' in the middle so they don't mix).

Eva was the best in this video. Would love to see Italian sausage recipes from different regions of Italy. Love watching you, what a fun time I have seeing you both in cook offs together.
You KNOW it's going to be good when Eva says, "trust me". 😉
True!
Well said.
I love how she rolled her eyes the moment he says "he is a celebrity chef." I feel that!
Me too. Ava dosen't play !!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew it, first ingredient "cheese"...Harper makes grilled cheese.
Classic!
Esta pareja me encanta! La interacción entre ustedes me divierte mucho. Y deliciosas recetas italianas. Continúen por favor! Les deseo todo lo mejor.
Now it's official: this is my favorite cooking channel! Loved binge watching your videos so far...
Thank you!
This is one of your most engaging videos recently and I couldn’t stop laughing and also learning. 😂 good job both
"100 degrees and you return home to expect delicious soup." Well...if it is 'tomato' soup then you likely won't expect much but if you expected chicken noodle soup then there is more to expect. Just another reason why I love this UA-cam channel...so interesting and different from what most people would expect.
That swordfish sandwich looks incredible 🤯
I’d love to see how Eva makes that bread. It looked magnificent.
I second that. Please.
I want to know as well.
Wednesday tutorial on bread?
Yes, a bread episode per favore!
For us in Italy is normal bread....for you bread often is that for sandwiches in slices
As an Italian from Gerace Reggio Calabria…..EVA WON!!!!!!💜💜💜
"Do you know who Bobby Flay is?" "No." That made my day.
I think Eva should go to "Beat Bobby Flay"...she would win!
Considering I had the best “sandwich” of my life in a little shop in Volterra, I gave Harper 0,01% chance to win. No surprise I was right.
I can't get enough of your videos! Love them. Educational and entertaining.
Eva wins 100% with 3 course meal wild card sandwich, there’s just no competition to that!
O' cuzztiell 'mbuttunat !! Meraviglioso !!! This is one of the best so far. Love you guys
Finalmente qualcuno l’ha chiamato con il suo nome!!! Ho letto il tuo commento e mi sono commossa GRAZIE!!!!
@@PastaGrammar Grazie a te! Da napoletano emigrato all'estero, anche io sono diventato molto piu' incline alla "commozione" nei riguardi della nostra cucina e tradizione ed i tuoi video ne sono spesso fonte.
I am loving all the content coming from you guys! Cheering for this channel's success!
P.S. OMG, Harper and Eva are such a joyful couple to watch!♥️
No kidding, right? I started watching them about a year ago when they lived in Maine. Then they moved to Tucson about 3 months ago and I got excited because I grew up in Tucson
I think Harper is adorable: he is so humble and honest. He sometimes can be nasty against our beloved Eva but he is awesome and makes me smile.
I love how Eva says “What is this?” when she sees Harper’s American sandwich.
When Harper had the aha moment for a seafood sandwich, I thought sure it was going to be a tuna fish sandwich! Kudos on making it a lobster roll.
Delicious, but with dreadful bread.
Harper’s description of coming in from sledding and having that lunch waiting for you… nailed it! And it was… is still… so good. I’m all for “elevating” foods. But this one oddly needs to stay the same.
Can still use better ingredients in my opinion.
It's interesting that the very last sandwich is something that was made also where I live (Val di chiana, Tuscany) by people when they were going hunting. They put pici pasta with ragù or aglione inside a loaf of bread. Mitica Eva 😁🍻
@ 2:44 The real king of cheese, OMG, I can't remember when was the last time i had actual convulsions from laughing 🤣
Awesome show. I wish you all many more subscribers! Fun to watch!
I'm with Harper on the grilled cheese and tomato soup, anytime, anywhere. Although you could use cheddar and whole wheat or Rye, too.
But it doesn't taste the same
@@sharonstrickland6421 Yes -- but with rye you could make a Reuben -- my favorite.
This episode was Great! Regarding Harper’s meatball sandwich, use sourdough bread (traditional Northern California) and provolone on top of the meatballs.
And more meatballs...
This was the funniest, can’t stop laughing! Job well done!
Haha did you ever end up doing that?
I mean no offense to harper bc that grilled cheese and tomato soup combo is a classic and looked rly good...it's just when Eva cooks anything I'm blown away. This is a woman who could teach famous chefs a thing or two. And no matter how off the wall some of her creative recipes may seem it always comes together in the end and makes me wish I had taste/smellavision
Like Eva laughs at Harper's presentation: she's fantastic, she knows the difference with italian panini!
16:08 bahahahhaah!- I caught that eye roll Eva!- clearly not a fan of “celebrity chefs”🤷♀️😂👍🏻
Ava always wins in my book. She is amazing.
Eva won hands down; homemade bread is king! This was one of my favorite episodes...really great chemistry between the actors!
Maybe because the "actors" are a real couple?
Eva won of course! Always inspired and delicious! And that swordfish panini looks like what’s for dinner! Thank you for my trip to Italy! Harper you also did an amazing job bringing the Americano to the table! God Bless
As classic and nostalgic as the tomato soup is, adult me has to suggest that it be replaced by something. I routinely have a vegetarian cheese sandwich from Subway, bring it home, and dip it in tomato-and-basil bisque. Heaven!
So awesome!!
My favorite people to watch cook anything.
Inspiring, entertaining,
Sharing the love of cooking.
I've only been watching this for a few weeks but have learned that Eva always wins. 😁
I live in Italy, not Italian. The Italians make amazing sandwiches,a balance between quality and quantity. If you use the right amount of high quality produce you can make mind blowing food with obviously the know how.
true, today I felt that only the surface was touched of what could be done about sandwiches.
@@MrRobbyvent definitely, maybe they don't have the ingredients available. One thing is for sure, they make some fine sandwiches here without all the gunk.
This episode was so entertaining. Thanks you two. I really love all that you do. You are really getting me through this pandemic.
I love the music. It's so fun!
"I'm sure it will be disgusting." ROFL...cuz we know how much you love her and her food. She's a doll.
When I saw the swordfish I remembered the last time I went to Italy. I ordered pasta con pesce spada in a restaurant in Conversano, Bari and I fell in love. As soon as I move to Italy next year I'll be ordering the same dish.
Eva’s cooking just amazes me she’s so gifted
Eva, your a Genius! I had totally forgotten my Nonna used to make these for me when I was a kid to take on my adventures! She used to stuff them with eggplant, or fettuccine with toasted garlic and olive oil, and shredded some Parmigiano-Reggiano and fresh basil, or spicy sausage and rigatoni! I will be going to get my ingredients today to make them! You definitely rocked this one! Sorry Harper, but the Italian wins this one, altho I will say my Midwestern German dad did make a pretty mean grilled cheese and tomato soup. So props for the nostalgia!
OMG! Mozzarella in Carrozza! I have got to try this one! Another great video guys!
Love Eva’s last sandwich, it give us a beautiful part of Italien history and what an amazing sandwich! Bravissima!! Mi piache! Greetings from Montreal, Canada!
Harper: It’s 100 degrees today in Arizona.
Florida Man: When isn’t it 100 degrees in Arizona? 😁
Edit: It was a joke, people.
It does cool down during the Fall and Winter.
It actually had a rainy season and it gets humid too. Maybe do some research on Arizona's different seasons and temperatures during the year. To many people are listening to other people's misinformation.
Every year in January or February for about 3 days!
@@markcatanzaro9699 Tucson have had snow on the Ground....about 3" in February several years ago. I aught to know, as I lived there at the time. Loved the COLD!
When it's 111 or more! hahahah! Actually 100 isn't bad with the low humidity, it is far more comfortable than 80 in the east with 90+% humidity.
Sorry Harper - Eva won hands down, I could taste it through the screen. Besides, it was a wild card! If your cheese sandwich needs soup, she gets to add pasta etc.
When I cook all day, especially now during crops season, it is most likely that I will make a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch, so yes, Harper is right, it is a Classic. All sandwiches looked awsome. I will cook the eggplant relish for my burgers tonight. Thanks for this surprise Saturday edition.
to be really honest i don't know if you're from italy, but those paninis are kinda REALLY heavy to digest, i would prefer a toast with cheddar and prosciutto cotto any day over those, they are delicious but i think usually in italy we eat toasts, calabria is known for a really heavy cuisine let's say
but the tomato soup...whyyyyy LOL we NEVER have tomato soups i don't know how you guys eat it or use it as condiment with crunchy bread, it makes it soggyyyyyyyy damn
love your vids! we need an italian full course meal tutorial from eva!
Soon
I only recently found your show, and the ore I watch it, the more I like it! You guys are a hoot and Eva is a real treasure.
Eva "we have the king of cheese"
Dairy farmers in Wisconsin "hold my cheese"
Yeah, pretty sure the French and English would like to get in on that debate too
@@Irse2000 sorry guys, French cheeses are delicious, but in Italy we have almost 500 different cheeses, 50 of which are DOP (Protected Designation of Origin), while France, if I'm not mistaken, has 45. Among other things, Italy is the European leader in dairy products.
sorry, WE have many king of cheese. Non ci sta storia.
07:50 probably the most American thing to say!
What Americans call bread is considered a violation of human rights in Europe.
Right!😂😂😂
Unfortunately for you Harper when Eva gets a Wild Card it's a Wild Sandwich she makes that destroys your meatball sub.
I don't y'all but the way she said "Sí Harper I'm ready" and the way she looked at him I SAW for the first time in my life what mad in love means. AND I AM THANKFUL FOR THAT
I chuckled my way through the whole video 😄
Harper...I thought your lobster roll looked pretty good!
Just read a book about the Bedford clanger. Great history!
I think it’s Cornwall where they make pasties which are savoury on one half and sweet on the other
Eva won , pasta sauce soaked bread must have been divine…
I loved the lunch loaf!
I have never see n it or thought about it!!
I CANNOT wait till my next picnic!!!
I really like you guys, and I like your format. You present most all of it, and your lovely wife cooks it all! I do love her honesty too - not afraid to say she doesn't like something. I love listening to her. She is a real treasure.
I love EVA!!!! She is so amazing and makes me laugh so hard.
Her Tattoo on her forearm = Per aspera ad astra means "To the stars through hardships". It's beautiful. It's also the motto of Kansas. JS
The correct translation of Per aspera ad astra is "through hardships to the stars" very similar to the motto of the RAF Per ardua ad astra "through adversity to the stars". Where as Ad astra per aspera is "To the stars through difficulties" which is the motto for kansas.
Wow. *Great* comments - - both the original, and clarification !
Lol Eva speaks like a true Italian would about good ☺️ the cheese sandwich she wasn’t very fond of lol my parents are from Calabria, I’ve been to mierato when I was a child, it’s beautiful
Harper, you did that sandwich that grilled cheese with tomato soup perfectly, absolutely perfectly
Well, they got left overs. You can not loose from this little friendly competion. I like watching Eva prepare Italian rustic-peasent style type food. There is better effort than our convenance we choose daily diet. Hey Eva! You should make a videos and a cook book to match. Do not forget the tools it takes to use to make the food.
