I love Davis' "How to Keep House While Drowning"! It is a book I revisit often to break out of some ADHD slumps I get in when it comes to doing care tasks. I highly recommend that as a book for anyone who has ever felt awful because they just cannot keep up with housekeeping. It is filled with compassionate reminders and really useful tips. It is so well written.

love that the cutest little void is taking your chair. she's just trying to write her purrrrrject!
one of my favorite books ever is In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado. it's a memoir and while it's harrowing, it's so beautifully written and uses so many cool literary elements in order to tell the story. highly recommend! (especially if you're looking for a deep and nuanced queer memoir!) 💖💖

I had so much fun writing today. My MC had to deal with finding a dead body and then he met his love interest, a handsome rogue character, but then I had to stop writing to make sure I would have an exciting place to start tomorrow

It can be so hard to stop ourselves when we just want to WRITEWRITEWRITE the scenes we've been dreaming up, but sometimes slowing it down really is best! 🐢

For nonfiction book recommendations, one of my favorites is Safekeeping by Abigail Thomas. It’s a memoir but it’s so creatively written, written non-chronologically and making use of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person POV. The chapters are also very short, about 1-3 pages each.

Sounds like you had a good morning! One of my favorite nonfiction books is Skate for Your Life by Leo Baker, it's from the Pocket change collective so, it's short but it's from a professional non-binary skater and it talks about women's sports specifically in pro skateboarding and being a trans person in sports. I love the pocket change collective for short, impactful nonfiction! I would also recommend Invisible: How Young Women with Serious Health Issues Navigate Work, Relationships, and the Pressure to Seem Just Fine by Michele Lent Hirsch. A great non-fiction about disability! One of my absolute favorites.

For nonfiction, I really enjoyed The Year of the Puppy, where a dog researcher talks about the developmental stages of puppies as they grow. Also Because Internet, which talks about how the internet has impacted the English language. I'm not much of a nonfiction readers, but these have stuck out to me!

“Do you read a lot during November or while participating in NaNoWriMo?”-- Not really. I listen to audiobooks while on the treadmill. 🚶‍♀
“What non-fiction book ... currently reading this month?” How to Write a Cozy Mystery Step-by-Step by Natasha C. Sass. Really good guidance. (I’ve already read Cohen’s book😉 )
“How did the first week of NaNoWriMo treat you?? How about Day 7 specifically?” I haven’t written yet today (I’m a night writer, less kid interruptions) but I’m at 14,605 right now. 💪 My goal is 3200 for today.

@@KateCavanaugh From what I'm seeing, Cohen's book is like Cliffs Notes (telling) and Natasha's is more action oriented (showing). I'm really liking Natasha's more because I learn better hands-on.

Writing has been going great so far, which is actually surprising. Usually, I'm in the trenches this time of the month. But im just having so much fun with this story. I'm almost to the actual catalyst (better late than never lol). Right now, the MC is following a black cat through a pitch dark tunnel. The cat is going to lead her to her dad, where shes going to overhear something that changes everything. Where did the black cat and tunnel come from? I have no idea. She's looking for her dad. I have 2 cats. Lets have her follow a cat to her dad lol
Also, i dont know if i would call it my favorite non fiction book, but i continue to think about The Body: A Guide for Occupants by Bill Bryson. It was a really fun and interesting read. I learned so much about how the human body functions, and about myself in the process. Highly recommend

I've been writing consistently everyday and aiming to get x1-2 chapters and plot points done a day vs focusing solely on word counts. My day is broken up into 90 mins to 3 hour work focus sessions. My system seems to work for me right now and my project is going smoothly. I was doing a screenplay and my 1st novel, but I decided to cut back on only doing my novel this time round after trying it out for the first few days. My day is split between writing sessions in the morning and afternoon, with errands or my spiritual focuses in between, unless I go into town and write in the library for the day. Loving your vlog!

So I was thinking that maybe in book 2 (I know a future Kate problem lol) that perhaps there could be some big revelation made to her, maybe something that the reader has even sort of picked up on but that isn't made aware to her until book 2. Maybe there could be someone that she killed and shouldn't have and she doesn't realize it until halfway through book 2. I'm just throwing stuff out but some big reveal. Or maybe she develops emotions or feelings for someone she shouldn't and those feelings cause some kind of conflict or complicate her mission or her next assignment. Again just throwing stuff out there lol. I'm so excited for this story. If there is any way I can be a beta reader I would absolutely love to but I also totally understand if you have your Beta's all lined up. You're making such good progress Kate! Congratulations. See you on Twitch!

Yay to Nonfiction November! Besides Victober it is my favorite booktube event every year. I am currently reading a book about the "bright young people" of the 1920s and it very much infuences my NaNo project, which is a mix of The Magic Mountain + the Misty Mountains + Jeeves & Wooster, basically flapper fantasy. 😄

i saw another youtuber mention the plot grid method and because i'm struggling to fully figure out what exactly is going to happen in this novel, i decided to, sort of, adapt that and give it a try (i'll give the actual method a shot once i have a full synopsis of everything settled). So what I'm doing is breaking down every single "plot point" to the barest of bones and describing exactly what it will consist of in the story. it's actually really helping me figure out and make sense of what all i need to include, but also helping me come up with new ideas so i'm enjoying that. i'm excited to try an actual full plot grid later on once i get all my ideas making sense in my head and on a million sheets of paper haha
