My 90 year old grandpa had a heart attack and we were all visiting him at the hospital during this game. To cheer him up, I joked Green's gonna take it in. After the block of the year Green took it in. After Denver fumbled the ball on the kickoff, and the Pack got a touchdown on the next play, I saw the first smile on his face in two weeks. He lived for 4 more years and always talked about this run and died saying I called it :)
and here I was thinking I removed all the onions in my house 🥲 nothing like predicting a play to someone... theres always a deep connection about it. Thats why I love football.
Coming from new York my whole family were giants fans and as a 7 year old kid I wanted to be different from the rest, couldn't decide on a favorite team. Came into the room when this game was on and seen this run and decided in that moment I was a packers fan. Here I am 15 years later a diehard green and yellow fan! GO PACK GO!
That jet will crash let's go Jordan.. don't get me wrong I love me some A-Rod tho I'm a packer fan not a player fan although I do respect many players around the league even Kirk cousins lol
Nick Luchey's block on this run was crushing! Loved having him and William Henderson both at FB this whole year. Just wish the Packers could have brought a Superbowl home this season. The O-line was phenomenal as well.
There's brilliance in the formation of this play, excluding the lone wide out, look at who's on the line, Clifton, Tauscher, Wahle, Rivera, Flanagan, and Kevin Barry, they made a formation exclusively for him, U-71, he would line up in one of the TE slots as an extra OT, couple that with a blocking TE in Franks, Luchey/Henderson as Fullbacks, and you have the reason Ahman Green would get such big runs like that!
This was a special game. Arizona beat Minnesota around the 2 minute warning, sending the Packers to the playoffs. The Packers had the out of town scoreboard shut off so the players could focus. When the Minnesota game went final, the people in the suites started going nuts and the people in the concourse started cheering. As that final score got around to everyone, the place was in a frenzy like I've never experienced before or since.
I was so neat being at this game, I remember they players on the field wondering what was going on because the fans were cheering and nothing was happening on the field. And when the players realized they were in they playoffs Brett took a Gatorade container and doused some of his fellow players!
I was there too. I've been to 6 games at Lambeau Field and this one takes the cake. I remember them not putting the other games scores up on the board. And these were the days before smartphones. So there were people sitting by us who head radio headphones on listening to game scores. The sheer pandemonium when the stadium erupted like you said at the 2 minute warning when this game was all but over, was AMAZING. Gives me goosebumps just thinking back about it. It definitely was a magical season and the packers seemed like a team of destiny. Shame it got cut short on 4th and 26.
@@NWI_Steel I was there, and I was in the tunnel. They had the MIN-AZ game on in there. I went running up to my family shouting that the Vikings lost, and seconds later, the whole stadium was in cheers, while others around were finding out the same.
Here after Greg Gumbel’s passing. Finally had the chance to see this game in it’s entirety over the summer, with Green’s 98-yard run and Gumbel’s call being the highlight of the game. You will be missed, Greg Gumbel (1946-2024).
was at this game with my dad as a kid and i remember he called it right before it happened. All the comments below on the stadium going nuts are accurate it was awesome
1,883 yards, 15 tds, definitely was an impressive season for him & one of the most underrated rushing championship seasons of all time. he was a beast in O3 even tho my BIRDS 4th & 26'ed they ass LOL
My dad threw a nerd football across the room on that play and ranted for half an hour about the Packers not having a defense and how Reggie White should have stayed. Lol
If you pause the vid at like 3 sec you can see the multitude of packer offensive linemen pancaking the shit out of the Denver D-line..it's hilarious!!😂
I was at that game and I called that play right before it happened believe it or not sitting up in the stands right behind them guys row 49 section for seat 12
I just came to watch this cause it said he ran a 4.1 NO WAY 4.4 40 on this run. Hes fast not track speed fast. I counted he was clearing 40 yards at top speed in just under 4 seconds where Bo jackson was around 3.5 and CJ was 3.6.
Ahman ran a 4:33 Electronic, or 4:13 Hand-held time as a Sophomore at Nebraska in 1996. And that was at 226 pounds. He dropped about 15 pounds for his junior year. Yes, he did run 4.1 and did it consistently. He ran 4:12 Hand timed on the Seahawks grass practice field as a Rookie in 1998. Green was one of the fastest backs in College or Pro Football history. For a long time he was the second fastest player ever at Nebraska although just by a hair over several other guys. And yeah, He was faster than Lawrence Phillips. LP ran a 4:26 for the Scouts at Husker Pro Day in 1995. That's why he was a first-round draft choice.
@@thedude-jb7wx So, Bo ran track in College, I'm pretty sure. That gave him an advantage. I don't think Green did. In High School he did though. Take a look at Green's 57 yard (not sure of the distance, might have been longer) Touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage for Nebraska against Colorado in 1995 when he was a True Freshman on an option pitch from Frazier. The pure Acceleration is just unbelievable. Green also squatted 560 pounds as a Frosh.
@@jeffreyk5734 bo wuldve bben the goat if it wasnt for the injury. Were talking about speec though and on the field Bo looked faster than any running back i ever saw. This was a meaningless game for the Broncos they were resting their starters in this game because they've already clinched a playoff spot the week prior.
@@ckobo84 there’s a lot more than that UA-cam has em for sure. The 99 yard one by Derrick Henry is the longest in NFL history which broke this one by Ahman Green.

I’m not crying, I promise! Maybe a little. Lol
What a Story! RIP
Best part of this is the play-by-play silence as the run, TD, and celebration unfold. Many announcers today wouldn’t do that.
I’ll never forget that play.

Greg gumbel is an underrated play by play guy
Underrated running back
This is the only specific run I remember from Ahman's career, but it was fucking awesome. Have to look it up once in a while.

u-71 formation with kevin barry nobody could stop it that year
That was our "Heavy Set" package
“Green! Look at Green! All by himself!” So dope
Just came to watch this, it's 2022. Always been a fan of him, he's from my home town. Was great in college, was great in the NFL.
Dam, he wasn't touched at all!! Not even going between the tackles

Fast & furious run.... GREEN bay style!

the reason im a packer fan.
That TD run was served on a green and gold platter. And Ahman was the right RB to serve it.
