I’m 61 and locals think I can sorta play. I’m not even in Ian’s zip code of drumming prowess. Real drummers know how great Ian is. Pure awesomeness and at 70!!!?????? What!??? Legend he is for sure. Drum on.
I cant see what there is to dislike about this video. This man is an amazing musician who at almost 70 is still kicking arse. Why does someone dislike this?
Ian was my favorite drummer since my youth! But something can not be ignored, the solo has not changed in the last decades, it has been playing 25 years ago, almost exclusively the snare drum concentrated. Today, technically, they have a much better drum solo (see Gergő Borlai), but still my favorite.
Ian Paice's accompanying play is world-class today! Unfortunately, the time has passed over the solo. Today they are playing much more technical solos others. But it is still a big favorite, dominant figure in the world of DP sound. Neil Peart, Thomas Lang,Gergő Borlai.Look at their soloists
I know a very famous Jazz drummer, he was my teacher back in the 80s and when i asked him on one occasion who was his favorite Rock drummer? He said Ian Paice!!!!!
I had the great pleasure of meeting Ian Paice at his house while on holiday last week. What a true Gentleman he is. One of the best drummers in the world.
M y three favourite drummers, Buddy Rich, Paicey, Billy Cobham, other great drummer, andy tailor of camel, seen Bonham, Moon, et al, don't ask me about Roger tailor
This man is the reason I started playing drums in 76. He’s still my favourite drummer. Great technique, great sound and still awesome after all these years. Thanks Ian 👍🏻😀.
Someone once told me he was the toughest guy Rock has ever seen. You can believe it can't you? 70 years old, and he still looks like he could knock ten bells out of most guys. Nice job Ian.
I had much the pleasure meeting Ian in Adelaide, Australia some years on now and found him surprisingly so modest of his awesome talent. Ian most of all is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. To add, it was his drum clinic and told the organisers he would not leave the venue until everyone that wanted to personally speak and meet Ian in person could do so. I can recall Ian said he donated that awesome sounding famous 'ludwig Made in the Japan kit' to a local boy that couldn't afford a drum kit. How lucky was that boy and shows the sincere generosity of this famous man.
Well at least now I now where THAT kit went. I'd love to know why he switched to Pearl all those years ago? That's a question I would like to ask him. Although sometimes the questions WE want answered aren't the ones they want to answer. Years ago I went to a clinic that Danny Seraphine was doing. He was getting some basic stuff tossed at him in the Q& A so I thought I'd be a bit more on the ball and asked him why ALL of Chicago didn't appear in Electra Glide in Blue? Big Mistake. He tersely told me to go ask Bill Guercio lol. Cant See Ian being that way though.
TerSan I don’t think the intent or use of “underrated” was used in that context. More like least credited or often overlooked. Sir Ian paved the way for many of the more commonly mentioned. Deep Purple has flown under the radar for like 2 decades but, are still truly unique and incredible. Love DP and Ian.
My personal favorite drummer ever. Just grooves, plays it all. Incredibly creative. Love his entire drum sound, style cymbal sound. Can't say enough about how much I like this guy as a drummer. Mick Tucker come in just barely behind. Mick is a creative and tasty as it gets.
Ian Paice is one of the few drummers from the 60s who still has the chops and the groove that turned heads when he was in his twenties. His creative drumming and technique was ground breaking in the 70s. Paice will always be compared to John Bonham because Led Zeplin and Deep Purple led a parallel existence, but both had their own style and I think Ian's playing was tighter, cleaner and more creative than Bonham's. As someone else mentioned, he is truly a living legend who pioneered a style of playing that still has an impact on modern drummers today.
The 101 who gave thumbs down .please this is for musicians only . If dont comprehend this master at work dont watch something you know nothing about . My apologies Mr paice
One of the best drummers Ive seen live hands Down and I've seen a number of drummers perform live. Ian paice sir you are a true god and artist of your trade
Ian, Palmer and Peart, we're responsible for thousands of " air drumming" frantic sessions I had from 15-30....by then, they just wore me out....Ians work, has been stellar, since day one....An absolute rock, behind the kit ...if you couldn't play with him...you weren't worth a shit as a musician.....A total Monster...
Ian Paice in his heyday was pretty much unbeatable in his technique and creativity and he has influenced so many of the great current drummers. Although I don't think he is as on fire as he was in his youth, to Ian's credit he is still an amazing player and the fact that he still seems to play as much as he possibly can and is so dedicated to his fans, sets him apart from so many of his peers. As far as who was or is the best drummer, I think that is a futile and worthless discussion. Ian Paice's contribution to the advancement of rock drumming is unquestionable and his drumming on "Made in Japan" for just one example is a benchmark few drummers will ever live up to.
Even Neil Peart was drumming with a little less zoom in his 60's. It happens to us all eventually. There is no best, just people striving to do their best IMO Ian set the bar very high for future rock drummers in the early 70's
A true classy rock drummer, still very capable and of course lots of British history in one of the hardest rocks band ever. All rise please for the Purple that is............... Mr 'fast snare' in your face Paice. God save the Paice
I started playing drums because of this man. When I see him on screen it is like time travel for me. Unfortunately time travel to war and all kind of shit but music helped me stay normal.. Thanks Ian!
and after having suffered a mild stroke, not to forget, which impeded him for some time. saw DP in concert last year: paicey still rocking the concert hall. incredible presence and charisma. fav drummer until this universe collapses.
This is one of the greatest drummers of all time underrated and under appreciated. He’s killin it . Just listen to deep purple machine head . Every song on it he’s amazing
Absolutely inspired by him in my youth. Tried to copy him and failed miserably. Wonderful guy and brilliant drummer. Will never get over The Mule on Made in Japan.
In my first band way back in 1970 I'd only been playing for about 6 months and we supported Deep Purple and Free the same night in my band Juice and there was a party afterwards and I asked him if he would explain how he did the drum fill in the middle of Black Night and he spent the next 2 hours teaching me what to practice because he knew I was keen to learn but what a fantastic selfless man.
And to think that this guy is the same hard hitter as the one you hear on some legendary albums dating back to the sixties. There is no drummer like Ian Paice. None of them maintained their energy and technique throughout the years as well as Ian. It's quite remarkable actually.
Different styles, different drummers, you wouldn't expect Velvet Underground to have his drumming or Killing Joke or Blondie. All of them are big musicians though. There is a video here of Zerra 1 live in 1985, their drummer is great too in that concert and on record.
Great~ For me he is one of the best rock drummers EVER! At the same time - the most underestimated drummer ever! He should be on the Thron of all drummers~!
I named my son Ian because of this guy. Never regretted it.
Sometimes I think about doing that too!!
There is Ian Gillan, Iain Mccaig, Ian Paice, Ian Anderson...
🙌
Your son will be very proud 👍
There some drummers who can be amusing to people who are not drummers .Ian Paice has always been one of them !!!
Pioneer. Explorer. Inventor. One of the greatest ever.
Being almost 70 years old and still being able to shred like that. Paicey's Immortal! \m/
So? Buddy Rich shredded at 69 also......
@@a.barnard3205 Buddy was a drumming behemoth, thats naturally acknowledged. But cut this comment some slack pal.
Paice was almost 70 here, and still plays way better than most drummers in their 20's right now.
I’m 61 and locals think I can sorta play. I’m not even in Ian’s zip code of drumming prowess. Real drummers know how great Ian is. Pure awesomeness and at 70!!!?????? What!??? Legend he is for sure. Drum on.
Ian Paice! The greatest!

Today, technically, they have a much better drum solo (see Gergő Borlai), but still my favorite.
if he is not that good why was he invited to perform in the last buddy rich big band concert in the uk
Nice Ian we love you
Maybe some don't like his hair color...:)
Мастер!!! Легенда!!! Брависсимо!!!

One of the best drummers in the world.
now you made me envious. i am turning dark green .....
One of the most underrated drummers!!! Still incredible , still great Ian Paice.
M y three favourite drummers, Buddy Rich, Paicey, Billy Cobham, other great drummer, andy tailor of camel, seen Bonham, Moon, et al, don't ask me about Roger tailor

Кто скажет ,что рок'н ролл постарел !!!! ВОТ ОН ВЕЧНО ЮНЫЙ ПЕЙС -классика рока !👍🎶🎵
One of the best..
This man is the reason I started playing drums in 76. He’s still my favourite drummer. Great technique, great sound and still awesome after all these years. Thanks Ian 👍🏻😀.
Never to late
i bet you are a hella drummer . . .
Ian "The Mule" Paice, one of the greatest bands to ever rock a stage.
Someone once told me he was the toughest guy Rock has ever seen.
You can believe it can't you? 70 years old, and he still looks like he could knock ten bells out of most guys.
Nice job Ian.
Ian Paice, maior baterista da história do rock!!!

what a story, that says much about Ian Paice
That is one awesome story. I am happy for them and you.

@@rf396 I think Ian said that Ludwig stagnated in drum building, I don't think Ian has reciprocated correctly, he is an excellent drummer.
While reading this, I thought you were talking about Ginger Baker! (just kidding!) lol
His swing feel is unreal. He is a such an amazing drummer.
Definitely has been underrated! Has always had incredible syncopation, sticking, chops, etc.. He's phenomenal.
My heart is filled with joy from watching this video, HUGE fan of Deep Purple
Ian Paice one of my favourite drummers 😁
Ian Paice underrated?? Come on man.... He's a living legend.
Legends are never underrated. There's a reason they're legends.
That's right, he never was underrated. I like his style since I first time heard Deep Purple in 1975.... Great musician.. M

Amen. One of the best rock drummers & underrated. He pushed those guys. Kept them from getting to "Lazy"!
Ein Genie, das leider nur noch wenige zur Kenntnis nehmen. :-)
The incredible Ian Paice going strong at 70. So much regretted not being able to attend any of the Deep Purple concerts.
BRAVO, Ian! My favorite rock drummer! He continues to inspire many drummers around the world. GREAT!
The 101 who gave thumbs down .please this is for musicians only . If dont comprehend this master at work dont watch something you know nothing about . My apologies Mr paice
