Great video! Learned a lot of why an Ethernet port is needed.

Great explanation on this I just bought one for my 17ft Jon boat ? For you why is there 2 ports of NMEA

Sorry for the delay. One NMEA is 0183 and one is NMEA 2000. These are two different NMEA connections. NMEA 0183 is the old style of NMEA, while NMEA 2000 is the new standard. However, give the fact some VHF radios do not have NMEA 2000, they provide so you can use it if necessary.

Do we need a separate dedicated battery with the Solix?

No. But I do recommend running the correct size wire directly to the battery. The fuse should also be located near the battery, not the unit. If you find that your unit is turning off when you start your engine, you may need to get a larger size battery, say going from a group 27 to a group 31 OR, you may need to put the Solix on it's own battery. Hope this helps.

I just bought a solix 15 love the unit but why does this unit not come with plug protection I never leave it on my boat I always take it in the hotel or my house when not in use just 4$k you figured they would have some cap or cover for the plugs when not hooked up

Your unit should have had caps for each of the ports on the back. When the port is in use, the cap just dangles from the unit. If you do not have these caps, you should contact customer support.
