My dad committed suicide when I was 14 and it took me nearly another 14 years to find spaces where I'm comfortable finding 'humor' in my situation. But emotional intelligence and the general natural maturity that comes with age has taught me that joking about such things with strangers is simply not a good idea. No "joke" is worth telling just to be EdGy and make others feel uncomfortable, imo

I'm so sick of people trying to act like nonbinary people don't exist or that our pronouns don't make sense. It was my birthday yesterday and my dad sent me a card that started with 'dear Daughter' just to spite me, and also dead names me constantly when it's not even necessary. It's causing me to feel completely unseen and unheard. People like Jeffery who are in the LGBTQIA+ community spouting this nonsense and effectively erasing us is so infuriating to me.
I can't imagine exactly how you feel, as I'm cis myself, but I have felt unseen. I've felt erased. My advice to that effect is easier said than done, but when I received it and began to actually practice it, it changed so many things in my life. No one can erase you. No one can make you obsolete. No one will ever be able to do that. Plant your feet in that knowledge and instead of saying "it feels like you're erasing me" simply state your boundaries have been violated, and refuse that person your time or attention until they learn to respect you. Sometimes when you tell people that you feel ignored or unseen, all you do is reinforce the result they're looking for. Your father deadnames you because he WANTS to erase who you've come to be. Not saying he doesn't love you, I don't know the exact situation. But telling him he's making you feel unheard only helps so much when he doesn't WANT to hear you, you know? Anger only makes them defensive. Just, don't give him your attention. Don't give him your time. Show him the consequences of consistent disrespect. If you live together that's a little bit more complicated, but I've been there. For a good three years when I was a teenager I was extremely distant from my mother. Not rude, not hateful or spiteful. Just distant. This tactic forces the disrespectful person to either make an attempt to bridge the gap, or allow the distance to fester. And I'm sure I don't need to tell you, if anyone is willing to accept distance instead of your identity, you are better off learning it sooner rather than later. Sorry for the rant. I just resonated with what you said and hoped to offer you the same advice that taught me SO MUCH about what it truly meant to value myself.

I don’t understand why some people think basic politeness suddenly doesn’t apply when it comes to anything to do with gender. Like if someone who was cis wanted to change their name they could, and it would be accepted. My cousin did that because she didn’t like her first name. Yeah it took some time to get used to it but we did eventually. Why do the rules not apply to trans people? I mean for us reasonable people they do, but I mean idiots like Jeffree. It really isn’t hard to just make an effort. If I (who has the memory of a goldfish for names and pronouns) can make an effort (and eventually succeed on the basis of enough repetition, yey), then so can these people. Also you don’t need to understand everything in order to just be sensitive to other people’s feelings. I don’t know a lot of things about the world. But other wiser people do. I can't imagine exactly how you feel, as I'm cis myself, but I have felt unseen. I've felt erased. My advice to that effect is easier said than done, but when I received it and began to actually practice it, it changed so many things in my life.
No one can erase you. No one can make you obsolete. No one will ever be able to do that. Plant your feet in that knowledge and instead of saying "it feels like you're erasing me" simply state your boundaries have been violated, and refuse that person your time or attention until they learn to respect you. Sometimes when you tell people that you feel ignored or unseen, all you do is reinforce the result they're looking for. Your father deadnames you because he WANTS to erase who you've come to be. Not saying he doesn't love you, I don't know the exact situation. But telling him he's making you feel unheard only helps so much when he doesn't WANT to hear you, you know? Anger only makes them defensive. Just, don't give him your attention. Don't give him your time. Show him the consequences of consistent disrespect. If you live together that's a little bit more complicated, but I've been there. For a good three years when I was a teenager I was extremely distant from my mother. Not rude, not hateful or spiteful. Just distant. This tactic forces the disrespectful person to either make an attempt to bridge the gap, or allow the distance to fester. And I'm sure I don't need to tell you, if anyone is willing to accept distance instead of your identity, you are better off learning it sooner rather than later.
Sorry for the rant. I just resonated with what you said and hoped to offer you the same advice that taught me SO MUCH about what it truly meant to value myself.

I remember watching this when it dropped and how deep in disbelief (but not in a surprised way, just in a dissotiative state) I was while Jeffree just kept lying and attempting to shape the past as this "woe as me" story when he was actually a horrifically manipulative and bigoted person in the community he was a part of and trying to still be relevant in.
Also, he really hasn't let shit go if he jokes about killing his ex friends, and sure, I too feel my ex friendships are dead to me but I don't imply it as being killed off, moreso that life in time has passed on and with those people with it. I dont imagine ending them because that's not healthy for anyone's mental state since its just warping reality, but hes used to doing that so not shocked he hasn't moved tf on already.

I don’t understand why some people think basic politeness suddenly doesn’t apply when it comes to anything to do with gender. Like if someone who was cis wanted to change their name they could, and it would be accepted. My cousin did that because she didn’t like her first name. Yeah it took some time to get used to it but we did eventually. Why do the rules not apply to trans people? I mean for us reasonable people they do, but I mean idiots like Jeffree. It really isn’t hard to just make an effort. If I (who has the memory of a goldfish for names and pronouns) can make an effort (and eventually succeed on the basis of enough repetition, yey), then so can these people.
Also you don’t need to understand everything in order to just be sensitive to other people’s feelings. I don’t know a lot of things about the world. But other wiser people do. And people with different lived experiences do. That should be enough to make me care. I’m not the center of the universe. And you know it’s true if someone as vain as me is saying it.

THIS! I have always gone by my middle name. When someone refers to me by my first name and I correct them, it's *never* been an issue... and this happens pretty often. I don't get why it's any different for a trans or nonbinary person asking to be referred to by a diff name or pronoun.

Well said. True etiquette is being polite and gracious when you had the choice to not be, or when you didn't understand exactly but have a modicum empathy for the people around them. Refusal to use preferred pronouns is simply childish narcissistic defense of your own ego. It's not about if you think the pronouns are appropriate, you dinguses. It doesn't matter if they are. It matters that people feel SAFE and FREE to be themselves even if it's messy or changing!

At the very basic level calling someone what they want to be called is just the minimum respect you can show someone. I just don’t get why some people essentially go out of their way to be rude and horrible to people they don’t even know for absolutely no reason. It's wrong. You aren't a good person if you go out of your way to be mean and cruel to others. I don’t like it. Now I have the luxury here of it not affecting me directly because I'm not trans or a member of the LGBTQ+ community, so I won't feel that hurt that I'm sure the people who are targeted by this kind of behaviour do, but I don’t have to feel it to know that it's wrong to make anyone feel bad. Even if I can't comprehend how bad, or the consequences it can have. IDK. It just sucks that apparently some people either don’t get this, or just choose to ignore it. my ex boyfriend lived w/ jeffrey star as a roommate at the upswing of his myspace fame. said ex bought a bunch of musical equipment with $$$ his mother left him in her will after dying from cancer. Jeffery Star literally stole all of the equipment and changed the locks on my ex, sold said musical equipment to fund his rebrand. My ex is still in a legal battle almost 20 yrs later regarding this equipment/Jeffrey's actions and theft. This was about 3million $ worth of recording equipment! Also, my ex told me (before i even knew who jeffrey star was) that YES HE IS SUPER RACIST and anti trans and always has been. this started in 2004, and in 2023 is still happening

Eileen is such an angel for trying to allow The Beast to redeem himself during his "rebrand". She seemed genuinely uncomfortable when he made the aids and s**icide jokes, both of which literally attacked her realm of interests (repro health and mental health). The conversation was so one sided as JS blabbed on about himself, even for an interview. I can't imagine meeting someone as amazing as Eileen (one of my biggest role models) and not even volleying a few questions back to relate.
It’s not dark humor. The fact that he has that many loaded guns means he doesn’t feel safe. The fact that he has to talk about sex that much and sexual acts means he doesn’t know where the line is because he was abused as a child….

Thanks for covering this. I watched that interview. I couldn’t watch it all in one sitting though. I had to take breaks. There was so much doo doo gaslighting going on in that interview, it was insane but also fascinating. Jeffrey really trying hard to present himself as a healed and enlightened queen. And then he was inviting Eileen to his ranch at the end of the interview I was thinking to myself “run girl, don’t walk!” The comment section was absolutely bonkers as well. People really have the shortest memories.
Jeffree not being friends with a single person that he was friends with from the “beauty community” and moving hundreds of miles away really goes to show where the problem lies. He is the one common denominator. Also, bringing up the trans people that WORK for you is wild. Tokenism is gross as is, but you’re talking about employees!
