This episode actually had a 1969 copyright date, and it looks like it was was originally one of the earlier episodes produced for season 7. It was never intended to air as the last show, and yes “Last Train to Pixley” seems to be a much better series finale.
I just realized after watching this again that this WASN'T the last episode (which I already knew anyway, cause it was a dumb episode to end a series on), but on the episode, "Kathy Jo's first Birthday," Kathy Jo was already walking

According to the episode guide, it was the last episode to air (Airdate: April 7, 1970).
This was a dumb way to end a series. Why in the world wouldn't they have stuck with, "Last Train to Pixley?"
Some how, I never could enjoy this hokey show.
