Skjolden, at the far end of the Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway, is one of the most picturesque villages in the country. Come for the nature, the hiking, the views, and to see life in one of the most pristine places in the world. We walked out to the lake, hiked up to the lookout, tasted locally made cider, met new friends, went out to the waterfall, swam, and watched the brave local kids jump from the bridge into the icy waters of the fjord. There isn't anywhere in the village where the views aren't spectacular, but it's the local produce, local people, and local life that make this a special place to visit.

Stop by the visitor center @VisitNorway for maps, activities, gifts, a cafe and restrooms. In the center, there is a grocery store, lodging, and cafes. Across from the visitor center is the start to one of the easier walks, as well as the road to visit the local llama farm.
Special thanks to Tage and Ellie for their time, perspective and openness.

You do take us to some gorgeous places. What a spectacular journey. I totally lost myself in the visuals and the images will stay with me quite some time. Thanks for the wonderful video. Happy Sunday. 🌞😎🇳🇱🙋♀🇳🇿👌
This is at the top of the list for places I want to return and really spend some time. Life here felt pretty idyllic (in the summer!)
Well Travelled Life: Thanks for this amazing video from our hometown, Skjolden!
And yes; we're watching, Jennifer 😉
Oh my gosh! I’m so happy to see you here!! I can’t tell you how much I loved making this video and I’m SO glad you guys saw it. You are both remarkable and our visit with you gave us such a personal connection to a town we fell in love with!! We MUST stay in touch - so that you can come visit us - and for when we return!!
We must! I'll send you a pm at Instagram. Ok?
Perfect. I'll look for you there.@@elihansenmoen8047
Very well done. I love that you're including more live video (versus voicing over photos), interviews with locals, and especially more about your personal experience in that area - what you did, what you liked, what you saw, who you met, etc. Some of the prior videos were heavy on history and stats, which one can get from Wikipedia and/or the city's website
We absolutely loved this village! It can be more difficult to meet locals in bigger cities, and often we find ourselves seeing sites and learning when we’re in those larger places. Village life suits us and we seem to find more opportunities to connect and engage in smaller towns.
Thanks for the info. Was great meeting you in Haines Alaska just days ago.
So great meeting you too! Loved our time on the lake - and our time at the brewery!
The air temperature looks cool and has beautiful nature ❤❤❤
So much cooler than the heat wave everyone else seemed to be experiencing!
Beautiful place and very informative video! Love it!
We keep “The List” of favorites and Skjolden is pretty high up there. I’m guessing it will end up as one of the places we’ll look to spend a month in.
looks really lovely there the views and your adventures there a great watch
*always a full view🖥Au👍leaving a big like😎have a great week ahead*
It's the people. It's always the people. Places are spectacular, but it's the people we meet that connect them to us in such an intimate way!
yes your right I agree@@welltravelledlife
Did drive past this town with my old transport company 9 years a go, did the a break there, did drive from Trondheim to Bergen. I do remember this place very well, and want to go back and revisit
We are big fans of small villages and Skjolden just might be our favorite one in Norway. I would doubt that it looks very different from 9 years ago, but I know there are new people starting new businesses and it’s got great local energy.
@@welltravelledlife You should go to Røros in the winter, to the Rorøsmartnan, Røros is an old preserved mining town
Well put it on our winter list.
Truely beautiful!
💞😊💞
Yep. This is my number one place I want to return to in Norway.
So beautiful!
The scenery is breathtaking - so pristine. The people were so real, so good.
Oh yes! This is BEAUTIFUL. Loving the village of Skjolden, appreciate the video very much, was so great to listen and watch your journey, this place is other worldly! The Fjords are spectacular, i'm just in awe with this video, i can only imagine standing amongst them one day! Thank you for sharing
This was a high point for this trip - made only more special by the people we met who shared the best of their lives.
This looks like an amazing place to visit. Really enjoyed how you spotted some birds, talked to locals, and showed all all the beautiful spots.
The locals made it personal, special and so worthy of a return visit.
The more i see footage like this of Norway, the more I want to visit! It truly is breathtaking with the immense amount of natural landscapes it has! Definitley on the must-see list!
It’s on our must return list. You will love the pristine beauty. It’s just in your face gorgeous.
Beautiful! I love the fjords and loved the timelapse - great idea to visualize the fjord vistas like that!
The time lapses are really cool, but I need a separate camera for them. It’s hard to travel light when we bring all of our gear along.
We are going to be there in 2 months....after seeing this video Im even more excited.
I hope you are as enchanted with it as we were. In our Best of Norway video, Skjolden kept coming up as a favorite in multiple categories. This really is the town Jennifer thought we should move to for a summer!
@@welltravelledlife is the hike up to the lookout easy for us non experienced hikers?? LOL
@@suepez1 It can be and of muddy, and it's a little steep, but Jenn did it in flip flops. There are walking sticks on the side of the building at the bottom. Take your time, and you'll be fine. It own't take you more than 45 minutes (and that includes multiple rests along the way) Coming down is way quicker - unless you stop for cider!
