All the footage you see in this video is REAL and there were NO ACTORS involved in the making of this film. A raw glimpse into the real South Africa.
The band sent director Frans Borman into the cracks and crevices of Johannesburg to showcase the reality of poverty and drug abuse in South Africa. “Desperate times call for desperate measures. But if you're looking for a lifeline, Nyaope is not gonna make the cut. It saddens me deeply that low-income groups have to resort to an ugly cocktail drug that destroys bodies, lives, families and communities just to feel they can breathe. What reflection it is on us in higher-income groups? The weakest should be protected, nurtured, supported, understood and cared for. I used random images of roadkill, desolation, deterioration, alienation, and larva crawling juxtaposed with real-life situations to show Nyaope is jarring. Nyaope is a nightmare. Nyaope is disrupting. Nyaope is a monster. Like an animal crossing the road to reach greener pastures and getting hit by an 18-wheeler out of nowhere, Nyaope shows no mercy.” Comments Frans.

Nice to see a band as heavy as Vulvodynia using their platform to spread an actual message of awareness. I’ll be honest, I didn’t know Nyaope existed until I heard this, but it certainly seems to be a pandemic of addiction that needs to be addressed, and I’m glad it’s being brought to light even if it’s through some good ole slamming.

I had a friend who up til now still suffers with a Nyaope addiction and seeing this topic touched on in metal really messes with me cos he would also make fun of my music choice bcos I was a metalhead, especially with Duncan creating this dark poetic masterpiece it brings tears to my eyes

That straight up frog shit is fucking amazing. I used to be way more into metal, got really into throat singing and folk music the last few years. I can readily isolate harmonics and sing chords.
