I actually had this as a kid, and between me, my brother, and best friend we beat this and sonic two over the course of two sleepovers, switching out to go with each person's strengths. We felt so accomplished, we then turned on hard mode for one level and turned it off lmao

Did you know that there was another sparkster game for the SNES? It's COMPLETELY different from this one and I still own it to this day, the visuals were much nicer on the Snes imo and the hard mode added even more levels, bosses and a secret ending, give it a try with an emulator :D en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparkster

I beat all Sonic games before my older brother, even collecting all the Emeralds in every game, but he blasted through Rocket Knight Adventures like a champ. Overall, we had our share of Rivalry. Still have some of it to this day x3

This game does bring back memories. I remember renting this title when I was a kid. Also, I did beat it on the hardest difficulty. Had one day left on the rental, figured I might as well try my best. Glad to see this game be viewed again. Kinda wish it was in my inventory of games now.

The only time I ever messed with any Sega consoles was the one night I was left at a daycare, some fancy one I never went to again after that. It had a lot of cool toys and the other kids weren't annoying to me.
The best part of that night was seeing this game next to the console. I had no idea what it was or how it would play. I just started playing it and fell in love.
I think about that night every now and then. Don't know why, it was a good memory, but nothing too crazy.

This is the game that introduced me to Mirror Bosses. Axel Gear (purple evil Rocket Knight) gave me so much hell during his all of his fights, and it was so much fun beating him up every single time. Especially that mech fight. Good God that was awesome!

Mad props my dear masochist Completionist, I'm very skilled at games but I would have never been able to finish this game with that kind of difficulty, not because of lack of skill, just for the lack of patience.
I don't work well under stress. Its funny, tho, I can go around games not taking a single hit because I know nothing will happen if I do take on, but when I know I can die in a single hit I make stupid mistakes just because of the pressure.

  • @Nielzabub

I freakin love this game. I was never able to beat Sonic 2 as a kid, but this game I was able to beat pretty regularly. It really is a shame that it never became the franchise it deserved to be. I think it's in part because the sequels weren't as good. There are things to enjoy about them, but the other games just didn't have the vibrant energy the original did. I'm glad to see this game getting more love here. Both Jirard and Movie Bob have talked about it, and that just makes life so much brighter.

I had quite a history with this game. I was determined to beat it as a kid so much to the point that I'd play the levels over and over long enough til I had the timing on everything memorized. It was seriously a glorious gaming triumph when I finally beat it. I beat it on every difficulty except Hard (I could only get to level 4). Damn I loved this game though

  • @Tavion2

It's also pretty similar to the storytelling in the Genesis Sonic games. No text, some little vignettes here and there, mainly you just progress from level to level. I'm not sure how lack of context is an issue in this game but not those.

  • @pastarhythm2762

It looks like it has some Kirby-esque aesthetics and ideas, while throwing in some of the visual design, character design, and level design ideas of Gunstar Heroes. It's all combined with Mega Man level difficulty. It looks really cool!

It's a great game, in a great series.. save for maybe the 7th generation iteration.. but seriously stop harping on the "made for a younger audience" crap. Even if you're doing it as a joke, it's just not right.
Just because a game is "E for Everyone" and has bright and color graphics, doesn't mean the game is only for children. The whole point behind the character's appeal is so that everyone would enjoy the look and aesthetics. The game was literally developed to be fun and challenging and appeal to all ages, not just kids. That was the whole idea of the mascot craze of the 90s was so that all demographics would want to invest in their developed by committee mascot.. some worked, some didn't.
Also remember when this came out, most of the console owners were in their early to mid teens. I was 13 at the time, and I never felt it was for "A younger demographic" in fact, I felt like it was meant for me.. and now as an adult, I still feel that way. Castlevania and Contra share the same E to E10 ESRB rating as Rocket Knight and both Sparkster games.
Also, just because something is bright, colorful, and cheerful in look.. does not mean it's "For kids." Look no further than Happy Tree Friends if you want proof behind that, that series is definitely bright, colorful and cheerful and completely, and utterly for only an adult audience.

Nostalgia you say? Here’s a game I think would be good for review: The Fancy Pants Adventures (and its sequel, *Super* Fancy Pants Adventure).
Just a little somethin’, The Fancy Pants Adventure also contains it’s previous two installments (namely World 1 and 2, you could call this one World 3), so technically it’s three games into one. You’re gonna have to snoop around in the hub if you’re looking for 1 and 2.

Ah yes, Rocket Knight Adventures. One of the finest platformers the Megadrive has to offer. I'm so glad I didn't subject myself to Crazy Hard Mode (at least the Pal version is upfront and honest about it), especially considering you get bugger all for it. So thanks for subjecting yourself to that torture so I didn't have to. >:D
I'd also recommend trying out the sequel Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2. It's not quite as good but is still a lot of fun to play.

It is a game that you might have heard of before or even played yourself and since the challange of the game are a few achivments (on the pc version) and some collecting it could be kind of fun and relaxing to play. hope you play it either if its for a review or just in private.
