I saw my first GG video last week, and I thought you guys were from an alternate universe.
One week later, this is now undoubtedly my favourite youtube channel.
During the week I added a couple of new sports coats, pastel dress shirts, and various coloured sweaters and chinos to my collection, and just a little more time each day in consideration of layering combos...and voila!
Instant confidence. I went into a menswear store and the female attendant was absolutely frothing over my 'amazing' sales job 😄
The best thing? After a couple of days of dressing better at work, I turned up today and all the guys at the office were looking sharper too!
    Cheers GG team.

This is so cool. I've become super interested in the construction, design, care, and repair of shoes over the past few years, and getting an in-depth peek into a bespoke shoe commission like this is absolutely fascinating! Can't wait for episode 2.

Awesome! If I could afford it I'd definitely get a bespoke pair of shoes. I have very flat and wide feet, so sometimes finding a shoe that fits well is a bit of a chore.

@@SPNKr16 "Custom tailored completely from scratch" is the definition of bespoke. If he's never had that done before, he's never had a bespoke suit done.
His pinstripe navy DB is Ralph Lauren Purple Label. He's said this many, many times. Who's the noob to this channel again?
I stand corrected on the grey three piece. I think that was bespoke, and it raises the question: what kind of lunatic chooses _that_ as his first and only bespoke suit?? *EDIT: It looks like that may have been some kind of advanced MTM instead, as it has a front/rear balance issue that a bespoke tailor would have been able to solve*
I still think that it behooves dear Raphael to have something a little more normal made, and document the experience.

I just added Amara to my reference file ... nice to know a custom shoemaker is local. [US woman's size 6.5 EEE here.]
Speaking of local ... I would love to know of any good clothing services (cleaners, cobblers, etc.) in the Twin Cities (the closer to Uptown or downtown, the better). I moved her just before the lockdown, I just started working from my "traditional office formal" office downtown, and I'm wearing my business clothes again.

I know so many people in their 50s who purchased shoes (most of their lives) based on the look and less on the health aspects of the shoe. Bunion surgery, knee replacements and more result over time when ill-fitting shoes result in toe misalignment and joint injury. One thing I noticed is your artisan measuring your foot is not identifying / addressing issues like toe splay or heel-to-toe drop. I would want my custom shoes to play a role is keeping toe alignment correct and not simply replicating less than healthy toe splay. Thanks for thoughtfully explaining the process.

I am learning to use unnumbered tapes when doing proportional drafting for 17th century clothing. It's a very easy and straightforward way to store that information for future use. Much easier than storing patterns and much more intuitive than writing tables of measurements down on a piece of paper and having to pull out rulers, later.

my feet size are a 8 wide to extra wide. But usually I go up to size 9 wide and that suits my needs on all my shoes, other then loafers. For loafers I go half a size down and get insoles inserted for more comfort.

I don't understand why bespoke shoes should cost thousands of dollars. I get my footwear bespoke at a local shoemaker and they usually charge me around 100-150 bucks for a pair of cap-toed oxfords and 200-300 for calf-height engineer boots. All bespoke, with the multiple visits to ensure fit and all.

On a visit to Hong Kong about 10 years ago, I had a couple of pairs of bespoke shoes made up. It took 5 days. (The shoes are still going strong. They have not needed a resole yet, as I don't wear them all the time).
They keep the last. 3 years ago I had a couple more made. I did not need to visit. They sent them to me.
      They cost around $400 - $500 US.
I actually bought a pair of shoes off the rack last year. I liked the design a lot. It did feel strange wearing them compared to the bespoke shoes, that fit like a glove.

The dictionary does not have custom shoe making under the definition for bespoke. We should just say custom; it's less annoying, not a modern marketing gimmick specifically utilised to sell custom made shoes or made to order versions and it's just how everybody has spoken before bespoke came about to make the shoemaker appear to be superior and over-skilled and the customer feel special about their shoes and to make sure they go back to the same company for custom shoes forever.
For reference to see how ridiculous this has become, listen to Kirby Allison speak about custom shoes, or look a few comments below this one to witness the atrocity _bespoken._
