Watched this video, honestly glad this exists! Such an easy to follow tutorial, worked flawlessly. Just need the components, a steady hand and a soldering iron!
I used this guide and got good results. I didn't solder the resistor to the IC though, I joined the capacitor and resistor together at the same end. My RCAs are on the side also.
Great video! Thought I would mention that some master system consoles for some reason output flickering pink/blue or black&white screens during some of the gameplay/demo of a game. Instead of a 75ohm, I used a 220ohm resitor. Slightly darker picture (not too dark) but fixes the issue. Hope this helps anyone having the same problem.
+zahidyeah hmm odd thanks for the tip
uhmm i think i have the same issue.
This actually looks more easy then i thought! I will look into the total costs of doing this, i want all my consoles to have atleast av output (so i can put scart on the other end) I don't wanna keep on switching cables at the back of my tv. I already got 5 consoles out of 8 on scart with a scartbox with a switch, really nice to not have to go behind the tv. Only my Mastersystem Megadrive and Snes are co-axle still..
just did my master system 2 with your video, it worked liked a dream Great video my Friend Thankyou
Awesome to hear 😃
Thank you
I am going to do this, but with an S video connector, if this is possible, just need to figure out the pinouts of the s video connector, and so then I can remove the RF connector and have the s video fit there, so then i won't need to drill into the master system case
This is the right wiring etc but i highly recommend NOT doing this on the top side of the board! Its very easy to slip and bridge the legs of the chip when soldering and to accidently melt the plastic on the catridge holder bit!!
Much better and just as easy (once you can locate the legs) to do this mod on the bottom of the board. There is still enough clearence etc and much lower risk.. food for thought especially for beginners
Thanks a lot 👍 I just made the AV mod using your instructions, and it worked perfect 😁
Nice work! Glad it helped
tell me pls, can i use 100ohm res? Thanks a lot@@Slot1Gamer
@@pidarkow give it a go but image may be dark
Thanks for the walkthrough, well done. Works awesome!
Can you show us how to do the S-Video mod? and pause button thanks
O.K. Done it and it's successful. Thanks so much for putting this video up. My master system has been reborn and is plugged in to a modern 40 inch TV. I put the resister and capacitor away from the chip though.
Now I need to do the same for my megadrive and Snes.
I can't imagine any of those consoles looking better on a 40 inch LCD/LED than a CRT, even with upscaling, unless the CRT is really old and shitty.
+Mogura87 Just so I can use them for the future that's all. I'll not be keeping the CRT's forever.
I've got an interstate 1110 aswell, it's my oldest console and it's a pain in the arse to tune it up to a modern TV.
I know we can't expect to keep CRTs forever but I want to enjoy them while they're still around. I'm willing to move on to LCD with top quality scaling eventually, but that kind of scaler is about as expensive as 2-3 high end CRTs (PVMs), and you'll still have some degree of input lag on any scaler+LCD while CRTs have zero period.
I think I'm getting the parts tomorrow. Gonna do the mega drive too. I'll be able to get rid of the CRT.
I'll probably go on the underside of the board.
Thanks for sharing.
how did it go? :)
+Slot1Gamer Very well. I went on the top. The components are on the other end of the wires by the sockets. I'll be doing one for a friend one day.
Slot1Gamer hi are you from the uk because i am looking for someone to mod my master system 2 for me
Casual classic Gaming No I am not BUT you can ask on the Assemblergames forums, there are some skilled people from the UK on there that offer modding services. :)
Slot1Gamer thanks for replying to my comment I found someone on the forum that you told me about that are in the uk thanks for the info
thank you, works great just done today nov 2023 playing fantasy zone 2 right now ;-)
Great to hear !
Enjoy ☺️
Hi wonderful video going to do this mod what drill size bit did you use to make the holes in the case? Thank you.
Thank you ! 😌
Your best bet is to measure your connectors, the part that you want to be through the case, I usually use the flush mount ones so you measure the diameter of the threaded part at the back of the connector
I have 2 of these
But why is the NES so hard to find in Australia
Works great. Clear and simple explanation. Thanks!
i just did this to my sms2, great tutorial, thanks for the vid
You are welcome glad it helped
I'm confused, you say you need a 16v cap but in the vid you use (or atleast thats what I think I saw) a 10v cap, can you clarify on that?
+Marcel Coufreur-Blaauwendraad you can use either, 16v is just easier to get at most stores for some really weird reason.. :)
This is the answer I was looking for, I ordered both in case :) I will be doing this when the parts arrive! Thanks for the video😊
Just finished this mod and works great thanks
What size wattage was the resistor ive found 75ohm but ive found several wattage levels
Chris Godfrey Hi, the wattage isn't too important but a 1/4 watt would do perfectly (that's what I used)
Thanks for watching
Does anyone know if an AV to HDMI cable would work with this I already have my AV ports on my TV being used ?? Don't want to keep swapping them out or have to use a switcher
It should work fine, the CVBS impedance should be within spec
I’d recommend getting a GBSC, they are under $100 usd and seem to be more tolerant in this regard.
They also don’t have a frame buffer from memory so little to no lag
Pretty straight forward then I thought I would have to do a lot of more connections
Hi. How wide do the holes need to be at the back of the console for the three coloured connectors to pop through them and stick out nicely?
+bcthomps 8 or 10mm, the jacks are designed so the outer end is bigger
I know this video is old but I wonder if anyone knows if I should see any voltage on the positive pin of the composite out rca port, I hear the audio I get no picture.
There is voltage but it's only very low and changes depending on whats being output.
maybe check your soldering or try different tv
@@Slot1Gamer I forgot to update this comment, my issue was due to an incorrectly labeled resistor, it was a 75k and should have been a 75R
Do you need to solder on the resister if doing this from the under side?
ollieflp Yes you would still need to add the resisitor
ciao io ho messo presa jack stereo quella per le cuffie,ha tutti i contatti li dentro e faccio un solo foro piccolo, poi con un cavo apposito lo collego al tv
Looks so much better on a 40" TV!!! Thanks :)
No problem :)
Hello there. My SMS mkII doesn't have that Sony chip. At the IC9 position, it has a physically smaller 24-pin chip marked MB3514 on the first line and 9227 M09 on the second line. On the left, it has a logo of a capital 'F' with horizontal lines above and below it. Will this be the same principal?
Did you find a solution? I have the same
Thanks for this mate worked perfectly!!!
My one doesn't have the Sony chip, it has a much smaller chip which is tiny so I guess I'll have to try look for a pin out guide for it or look for another Master System.
Same, did you find a solution?
Can you mod it to output S-video too?
+Jarrah White yes but some games DON'T work alex the kidd does not work on the title screen (it's there but you can't see it)
Great guide, thank you very much. I was only able to find a 75 Ohm resistor (1/2watt) - should this still work?
Should be fine
Hey. I did everething on the video. Everything is OK but I don't have sound. 😞 What did I wrong?
great video. does this output still produce the jailbars? cheers
Thanks 😃 jailbars may still occur, mine didn’t have very noticeable ones though.
It’s much like the Famicom, where fixing it needs a lot more work to clean up the interference
Is it also possible to solder to the underside of the board? i'm new to this lark.
yes you can, just make sure the solder point doesn't touch any metal shielding on the bottom (if your console has it)
hi, out of curiosity, what is the upscaler you're using? Ta
Hey nice tutorial.
But what is the resistor and the capacitor for??
in some other mod tutorials they just soldered the wires for audio and video to the upperside of the PCB and conected them to the chinch jacks.
what is the difference?
+BattleSausage Resistor is to keep the same "impedance" as the TV's composite input (75ohms). The capacitor acts as a small amp and filter, without it most TV's won't pickup or hold the signal
Great tutorial but couldn't get the 16v capacitor will 25v be ok?
work great for me thanks the only problem ive got is on some games at the bottom of the screen about an inch high ive got a line running across the screen looks abit like static but isnt complete more like flashing pixels any ideas any help would be appricated thank you
probably something that is always there just hidden in overscan on older tube TV's.. I've seen that before on another console that I RGB modded
or is it running through the image not under it.. Could be a ground issue, check your connections :)
thanks for the video just done it tonight at the same time as the 60hz mod as well
Awesome I’m glad the video helped 😊
Hi, I loved doing the av mod everthing works good but i have a little hick up.. my screen is not dead center of the tv? Its moved to the left of the tv? Never paid attention to it before doing the mod? Any ideas
+Issy Uysal I’ve seen this on the PS1 using import games, it has something to do with the frequency difference between regions.
Thanks for the reply i realy appreciate it.. but it does it on my other 3 games as well? They all cant be imports? Could i have a problem with the console?
I know this a real old post but I’ve just done this. It works but the picture constantly flickers. What do you think is causing this ?
Check the capacitor is the right way around or reduce the resistor value a little
Also check the soldering is all ok and not shorted
Great tutorial but my master system 2 has the Fujitsu chip not the Sony one any help would me much appreciated as really struggling to find a tutorial for that chip.
Fujitsu should be the MB3514, the process and connections to use are the same as the Sony chip.
What difference does it make if you don't use the cap and resistor
it won't work
I did all that appear in the video but not work, the screen is always in black. Can someone help me?
I have PAL SMS2 but live in USA. Will this mod allow console to work on USA tv? Great video.
Toddy 83 If you have a fairly recent HD tv, most of them are multi region.
If not you can get small converter boxes that you can plug any PAL composite device into which gets converted to NTSC.
thank you i did the same and everything working perfectly
Would this work on an NTSC master system 2?
how do I know if the Console is working prior to mod as I can't get it to work with my TV. will be trying this mod ASAP
+Matthew Allmon the mod doesn't remove any part of the console so it's a good way to see if it does work
Actually forgot to write again . I did this mod and it works perfect . Actually had the wrong power supply anyway which was making it not work . Your mod was amazing and clear and I thank you for it
Matthew Allmon I'm glad it worked out well for you :) Thanks for the kind words :3
oooooooohhhhh yeeeaaaaahhhh did it finaly perfect picture and sound you rock many thanks for this video ooh yeah so happy 😬😬😎😎😎😍😍😍 29-8-2017 greats from holland it was quite easy to do thanks thanks thanks mate youre the best oooh yeah 😍😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
just finished this and works great thank you
does this work wit the 50/60hz mod ? i did both and when i switch to 60hz the colors and display get messed up . When on 50hz with composite everything works fine.
I’ve never heard of someone having that problem
Does the same thing happen with RF
Thanks! Worked perfectly!
Just what I'm looking for thanks
Where can I find those Jack's? I cant find them no where
The video jacks are usually sold as RCA jacks or phono connectors, you can get on aliexpress or amazon cheap.
The ones I have are the "panel mount" type
Can't you tap off the three pins at the back of the rf modulator instead ?
Even greater if that console mod for worldwide use, just as if they did with the NES, Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo.
Thanks for the tutorial. Can I use a 75Ohm 0.6W resistor?
+Bruno Franco wattage doesn’t matter, the resistance does :)
Slot1Gamer Thanks. Great tutorial! :)
Thanks! Worked like a charm!
FallaciousFreedom glad it worked for you, thanks for watching
Slot1Gamer question, would this MOD work on an NTSC ms2?
wittyname100 yes
Hello, This mod works for NTSC console?
Slot1Gamer Why on your tv it has 4.3 aspect ratio?
I changed it to 4:3 for the video :)
Hello, how much resistance of the resistor?
md6250.ru 75ohm
works great thanks
Guys if you do something like this I would advise you to NOT use any metal/foil tape because over time the adhesive may fail and then you would have foreign matter bouncing around that is electrically conductive and begging to fry/short circuit your device!
Thanks for the tutorial. Works perfect. :D
Dusan Stamenovic Thanks
Hi first of all great video. Can you talk more about the image quality. Did it improve?
Thank you.
It’s better than rf but not as good as Svideo
Im gonna try this at the weekend :-)
+old style gaming how did it go :)
Slot1Gamer great mate however I soldered to the bottom of the board ... but it looks great ...thanks 😊
That's awesome, something I like to try
you say 75ohm resister, apparently these are rarer than hens teeth in my country, as EVERY shop i've asked says thet only sell them in 86 or 68 ohm.. help!?
BurntFaceMan hmm thats weird here are some on ebay you could buy :) www.ebay.com/itm/200-pcs-Resistors-75-Ohms-1-4W-1-Metal-Film-Resistors-/250672056847?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a5d380a0f
BurntFaceMan I actually just finished this using a 68, and it works ok, will this mean it just explodes later or should it work ok? * ps thanks for the link, ordering some for my other consoles =)
BurntFaceMan 68 should be ok but you may get a distorted picture on some Tv's.
BurntFaceMan Had the same problem. Get 2x 150ohm resistors and connect them in parallel, you get 75ohm resistor (well at least you get 75ohm value) by doing so. I used that trick few times already, works like a charm.
Very useful, subscribed.
Realy Cool! I make this MOD today and it works! Realy cool!
+Sascha Friedl Thats awesome that you got it to work :) Thanks for watching
Great tutorial! I need some help though.
I got it to work for a couple of minutes but I noticed some buttons on my controller wasn't working so I turned off the console and went to go repair/clean the controller.
When I got back and plugged everything in and turned it on but nothing came up on the display, not even a little noise when you usually start it.
Any ideas? I poked around with the multimeter and nothing is shorting out. I checked the power supply and it is outputting 14V but when connected to the console if I check the other side of the DC connection it is only showing a low voltage like 1.5V when the switch is off and something like 2 - 4V when switched off. Could this be the problem?
the psu will output around 14v when there is no load (i.e. not connected) you need to check the 7805 regulator (usually on the left side of the motherboard near the pause button. It should have 9-12v on the input (left leg), 0v on the ground (middle leg) and 5v on the output (right leg). If you're getting anything other than that replace the regulator and try again
You said 75 ohm resistor? sorry but i don't have a perfect understanding of spoken English :P... What is the color code?
This is for metal film iamtechnical.com/sites/default/files/75-ohm-resistor-color-code.jpg
SOLDERING =/= GLUING But thanks for the video, gave me the info I needed ;)
Hi, thanks for the video. I did the exact same thing, excep i didn't put the capacitor in the video. The image is black and white, could that be the cause? i saw other tutorials and they didn't use the capacitor. Thanks!!
Gabo Aranguren It could be the cause, the capacitor acts as a small amp and filter.. is your master system the same region as your TV?
Can you please write down stuff what I need? (I have bad memory :/ )
Wiktor Katulski 1x 75ohm Resistor
1 x 220 Mf 16v Capacitor
Wires pref 3 different colours,
3 x Composite /AV Jacks.
Solder + soldering iron
Screw driver
Maybe a drill+drill bit.
patience. =)
It's actually quite easy =)
+BurntFaceMan Are you sure it's 220 mf? I went into many stores and shop assistant said that there is no such a thing as 220 mf 16 v capacitor.
www.parts-express.com/220uf-16v-radial-mini-electrolytic-capacitor--020-1034
should say Uf not MF sorry. not sure how i typed that =P
BurntFaceMan Alright.
Its a cool idea but for me it kinda feels like decreasing the value of the console.
I felt that having the RCA ports on the back was not good in that aspect, so I replaced the RF module with the same 8 pin miniDIN the Mega Drive 2 uses and you can use the cables from that console, no need to make holes in the back of the Master System as the MD2 connector fits in the original RF hole if you line the port up right, and it can be removed and replaced with the original RF module again to put back to original if you ever wanted to... can even tape the RF board to the inside of the console on the right so it doesn't get lost!! No RF board also means less power demand and less strain on the old power components. Also, you can use the same port for RGB output if you have the ability to use RGB where you live, which is WAY superior to composite, and only requires connecting 4 more cables if using SCART.
resistenza ohm ??? please italian
75 ohm. si trova su ebay
perfect
+Dimitris Nikitas Thank you and thanks for watching
muito obrigado video very good
As soon as he said you are going to need solder,
I said FK and want to switch it off.
How else do you think it’s done
@@Slot1Gamer I don't know my guy, a little man come out at night and put it together.
Ok the comment is just tell everyone I suck at soldering and most things I have tried end in the bin.
So I need that little guy 🤣😂🤦
