- Today, if asked, most of us would describe ourselves as “Christians”, some maybe as “Born-again”, others that we are “Saved”. Those are all good, valid, and proper terms; but, what is amazing is how far we have moved from what the New Testament called those who were saints and headed to Heaven.
If you just read and note the descriptions as you proceed through the books of the New Testament, you would assemble a list of the:
NEW TESTAMENT NAMES OF CHRISTIANS
Those who are part of God’s family are called by a fantastic galaxy of terms in the New Testament. Most of us have heard of the top seven, but there are almost 100 different ways that born-again believers are named in the New Testament.
Beyond the top seven, there are many different combinations of words used one, two, three times like aliens and strangers” (1 Peter 1:1, 17; 2:11); “kingdom of priests” (Rev. 1:5-6; 5:10); and "chosen people" (1 Pet. 2:9).
Here is a brief summary that may surprise you. Let me give you the top seven in reverse order:
Seventh place: “Christians” = 3x (Acts 11:26; 26:28; 1 Pet. 4:16);
Sixth place: Followers of “The Way” = 5x (Acts 9:1-2; 19:9, 23; 22:4; 23:14; 24:22);
Fifth place: “Witnesses” = c. 27x (Luke 1:2; 24:48; Acts 1:8, 22; 2:32; 3:15; 5:32; 10:39, 41; 13:31; 26:16; 1 Pet. 5:1; 2 Pet. 1:16-18);
Fourth place: “Saints” = 62x;
Third place: Those Jesus asked and they were “Following/Followers” = c.100x;
Second place: Those who were “Believing/believers” = 266x;
First place, and most used is: “Disciples” = 274x (John 13:35 ; Acts 6:1-2 ; 11:26 ; 14:21-22 ; 18:27).
That’s why we refer so often to the truth that:
JESUS CHRIST COMMISSIONED HIS CHURCH TO MAKE DISCIPLES
Jesus, Himself sums all of those various ways of naming and describing us into one overarching term: “disciples”. That is why it is the most frequent term for us in the New Testament, and the clearest target for all of our lives to be focused upon in “making disciples”.
All the promises of the Old Testament may be seen as finding their fulfillment in and through the Crucified and Risen Lord Jesus Christ, who stood on a mountaintop in Galilee and commissioned His Apostles.
All of the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ in the four Gospels may be seen as distilled and crystallized in those powerful words of Matthew 28:18-20.
All of the truths of God taught through the New Testament Scriptures from Acts to Revelation may be seen as an outflow of that amazing declaration by God the Son that we know as the Great Commission.
The clarity and scope of those words demand our attention. Please join me listening again to Him challenging them and now us with these wonderful words: Matthew 28:16-20
For us on this side of the Cross, what Christ said is so simple: Disciples Follow Christ & Make Disciples. That’s it. Everything else is tied to that simple statement: worshipping God, Biblical ministry, and glorifying God all flow from God’s purpose to show the world that He is a Savior, Who so loved the world that He sent His Beloved Son to be the Savior of the world.
Welcome to a study of the central theme of our earthly lives. We glorify, please, and serve God to the degree that we are a part of what He has so clearly asked us to do and to be for Him. That takes us back to how we got here, in 1 Timothy 4, Paul is training Timothy in how to keep the church on target through the centuries. Paul gives Timothy a set of exercises that if done in the power of the Spirit, would keep Timothy and the church members he served, spiritually healthy.

And hereby we KNOW Him, IF we KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. Want to know God, keep His commandments, not because we have to, but because we love righteousness, we love Christ and what He has done for us and that our sin put Him on that cross. All His promises are yea and amen in Christ, to God be the glory, for US, not for a fake nation of earthly Israel.

Our sin has set us all on the road to hell and no amount of good will fix the sin we have done. We have ALL sinned. It is not about the type of sin or how much sin. It is about the fact that we have sinned. For that reason we all need a Savior.
If we want forgiveness for our sin and peace with God. If we want to escape eternal hell. If we want to go to heaven we must understand the following. We DO NOT get saved (go to heaven), get right with God, forgiven, by being good, by being religious, by just believing in God, by praying a prayer, being baptized, asking or accepting Jesus into our hearts, accepting Jesus as our personal Saviour, confessing our sins, joining a church, cleaning up our lives, doing penance, taking the bread and the wine, or doing all these things accumulative.
Salvation is a gift that is given to those who repent and come to faith. Eph. 2:8,9
Salvation takes repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Acts 20:21. testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Make no mistake. We cannot be a friend of Christ and remain a rebel against God and unless we repent we remain a rebel. The word repent, from the Greek word “metanoia”, means a change of mind or direction.
God is not receiving those who almost or kind of repents. It is like the word About-face which is a 180 degree turn. We turn from not wanting God fully in our lives to willfully surrendering to Him to lead our lives.
When any person comes to the place where they are broken over their sin toward God to the point that they want to get right with God no matter what it will cost them they are in a state/spirit of repentance toward God. Luke 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. The repentant heart would walk away from anything or any one to get right with God.
We then take that willing repentant heart we have towards God and place it on the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Master, because He paid the price for our sin, and that becomes faith. At that moment God’s grace through Christ is freely applied to us and we are born again, saved from eternal hell and sealed by the Spirit so that we will never again return to the practice of sinning. 1John 3:9,10.
Our first command after salvation is to be baptized.
Repentance of sin is the result of the new birth/salvation and will be part of the sanctification process and our new life with the Lord Jesus Christ, Eph 2:10. While we may sin from time to time after salvation it will never again be our practice 2Cor. 5:17, 1John 3:9,10.
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
REV. 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
It all boils down to are we sorry/broken enough over our sins against God and do we want to get our hearts right with Him or not. Let us be sure that tomorrow does not belong to us.
Pray, pray & pray for each other and all our brethren,
For: those who have stumbled, those who have been ensnared by false teachings&beliefs, those just starting out, those who are growing weary, those who are finishing their journey and those who are being persecuted.
May we plead with God to send out more workers to the harvest fields and for the rapid spread of the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

Stop trusting in your own works and believe on the Lord Jesus.

1John 3:9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s[fn] seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.
Jesus warned that many would seek but few would find and not make it.

@@JWO0169 what you have done is lifted a passage out of scripture and its context. Paul by the Spirit is confronting those in that passage who think that other's sin is unacceptable while they sin the same thing.
Romans 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
In scripture anytime that you see the word "therefore" you have to go back and see what was just said so you need to read the whole 1st chapter. to see he is referring to the lost.
Believers have had all their sin forgiven and God will not remember any of it ever.
Believers do not keep on sinning. It is impossible for any true believer to practice sin. Read 1John 3:9,10 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's[b] seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.
