BlueARP DM driving Dreadbox Typhon, Korg EX-8000, Vermona Mono Lancet

  • I felt like I need to make some music, too much development happened in the previous months... Also I wanted to use my new Dreadbox Typhon in a musical context.
    So, this is the 1st time I use BlueARP DM with all analog synths! Except Korg ES-1 for drums, but this thing may be considered vintage too for its LoFi 32kHz sound.
    The whole thing works like this:
    1. BlueARP DM drives all the synths except Korg ES-1, but it sends program change messages to Korg ES-1 to switch patterns
    2. Korg ES-1 is a clock master (I tried BlueARP DM as a master, but Korg ES-1 seems to have a noticeable lag with external clock), BlueARP syncs to Korg ES-1 and sends clock to Typhon (for BPM-synched delay)
    3. Mono Lancet plays the bass, routed via Zoom CDR-70 FX
    4. Korg EX-8000 plays electric piano and other sounds (it responds to Program Change messages from BlueARP DM)
    5. Dreadbox Typhon plays the main sequence through the track. This sequence mixed fixed-key steps with k1/k2 steps, so it changes to the chord
    This time I utilized all DIN5 midi ports on BlueARP DM, so I think it is a cool thing I added 2 midi ins and 4 midi outs. I could still use USB MIDI or MIDI THRU's to connect extra synths, but here I ran out of synths, and these are enough to make some music )
    Sorry for the high-pitch noise. I used separate adapters to power USB-powered devices, but still couldn't get rid of it completely.
    PS. I have no exact dates for BlueARP DM available for order yet, we are still in beta-testing. But I think first hand-made units will be available around Fall 2021.

    There is some way to record the midi notes generated by the bluearp, route example : midi track > vst(MASSIVE) > bluearp > midi Track (where arpeggiated notes would be recorded)
    That's a question, sorry if I don't write well
    Thank you for the whole project

      If the BlueArp's outputting the notes and they're playing on a synth, there's no reason why they couldn't be captured, either in a DAW, or in a MIDI track recording device of some type.

      I don't have the numbers yet and didn't yet do all the math regarding cost calculation, fees, taxes, etc... First units will be hand-soldered by me. Hopefully I will arrange small-batch assembly by some partner. So all I can say now it will be somwehere between 600 and 1000 USD.

    All audio outputs from the synths are sended to a mixer table ?

      Yeah, it is all mixed live with my small yamaha ag-06 mixer, no sidechaining or compression.

    how is the roland a49 as a main controller? really wish they made more minimal midi keyboard wit good keys

    • @graywolf2004ru
      @graywolf2004ru  Рік тому

      The form factor, size if perfect, doesn't take much place on the desk and has full size keys (I'm not a fan of mini keys). But for some reason it feels like it has higher latency than my old novation SL. Not sure it is a driver issue or keyboard itself, maybe a USB driver thing. So I finally sold it and now using my Kurzweil PC3LE as a main Keyboard, and still have my old Novation SL (I even took time to repair some keys on it with the conductive paint)

    • @graywolf2004ru
      @graywolf2004ru  Рік тому

      I don't know, but when I tried to play fast parts, it is less comfortable on A49 than on my old Novation SL, this is the reason I dodn't keep it as my main MIDI controller...

      All the changes I make to hardware also affect the plugin cause they share the same code base, so I'm not abandoning the plugin. Actually I'm preparing an update to the plugin, it will be released in a few weeks

    This is great! Love it! 😁 So the BlueArp is a NDLR on Steroids?

    • @graywolf2004ru
      @graywolf2004ru  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! They share some common ground, but designed for different workflows. Ask Ranz, he has both ). As I understand, NDLR is more a 'happy accident' machine where you tweak it and see what comes out. BlueARP is more a deliberate pattern programming tool.

    • @bonaventura_AKA_ben
      @bonaventura_AKA_ben 2 роки тому

      @@graywolf2004ru you might want to reach out to the NDLR guys to find out who does the assembly on their hardware. Perhaps that could drive the cost down to below the 600 to 1000 range.

    Mono lancet is better than a Slim phatty?

    • @graywolf2004ru
      @graywolf2004ru  Рік тому

      I never had Slim phatty, but I think Mono lancet is more of a 'hands on' thing, cause it is a pure 'knob per function' design, it doesn't even have a display.
