  • Yes he's back!! 2 stroke legend Nev Bradshaw returns once more to tick racing Hawkstone park on a big ol' 500 off the bucket list. In tough conditions Nev gives his all to keep the 1989 CR 500 near the front of the pack at the Maxxis British 2 stroke championship.

    Awesome video man. I’ve had 500s and thought they were the greatest thing until I had a four stroke 450. I didn’t wanna like it better but it just turned out that way.Better suspension and more manageable power. Those two stroke 500s have two speeds. On and off.Don’t get me wrong, I love those stump pulling 500s but it’s kind of like asking why the biggest strongest UFC fighter doesn’t always win. Manageability and finesse some times outshines Especially when the big guy gets gassed quickly.

    Great race. I read through a lot of the comments and i have to laugh at all the trolls and the people who have obviously never ridden a steel frame 2 stroke 500. It is very rare to get a 2 stroke 500 out of 2nd or 3rd gear on any track. Its one thing to fly up and down a road or a field popping gears. Its a totally different game on a track. A 2 stroke 500 will take every bit of energy right out of you. Very few people in the world have ever tamed one. Now i love My CR500 and my KX500 but i have to side with the 4 strokers on who would win a track race. Even if you put a 2 stroke 500 engine in a new frame with new suspension and handling, the 2 stroke will just beat the crap out of the rider over a 30 minute race. The 2 stroke 500's are faster in every way than a 450. But the truth of the matter is that a rider will be able to go faster on a 450.

      jeff pallaro no denying the speed and performance of the cr the bike is a legend. But it’s not going to beat a 450 around a modern mx track. As an aside there are not many people in the world who will be able to ride that bike better than Neville.

    • @jeffpallaro6952
      @jeffpallaro6952 6 років тому +2

      Evan Woodgate all I'm saying is that if these kids that ride pro today practiced on a 500 like they practice on a 450, they could beat a 450. Especially since you can convert old suspension parts and old tech. And it isn't always the bike more the rider. You have your opinion. I have mine.

    That Honda was made in an era when we didn't have health and safety, the 500 2 stroke was a bitch to start and a bitch to ride.... Totally different world today, I had the Yamaha 490 which at the time was considered to be slightly infereor being air cooled but was still brutal to control. Motocross bikes today are just gay by comparison.

      What tech do they have that the CR doesn't have? yes they are refined but all the tech a modern 2 stroke has was around when the CR500 was still being made just Honda chose not to adapt it.... On technical tracks the 250's were always faster that's why 500's died off.

    • @jaymoto9820
      @jaymoto9820 6 років тому

      @@MrKdr500 - I dream about somehow adapting a counter balancer like the current KTM/Husky 2 strokes have to a CR500 or KX. That was always one aspect of those old 500s that was so f@#%ing brutal that it was about the only thing that kinda took away some of the fun of riding them..., and makes Neville such a beast hahaha.

      If a 500 is running it's in its happy place. They make plenty of power everywhere. So much so that you need to ride it 1 or 2 years higher then you think you need. I personally prefer a 14 53 gear set up on my 500 for the track, makes it's a lot more violent. Just the way I like it. My beast is a 2001 Service Honda 500af.

    • @darthnatas953
      @darthnatas953 5 років тому +1

      CR500's don't bog, my friend. On a corner you would come out of in second on a 250 and wind it out, you should be in fourth on a 500. The low end is plenty strong enough to spin the tire, and right when the vicious mid-range hits its time to shift already.

      500's work better short shifting. Instead of winding it out in second, you should be in fourth, and it will pull like a freight train all the way to the next corner. There is plenty of power to spin the tire at any RPM. When that mid-range power band starts to hit, it's time to shift already, because the next higher gear will pull like that too.
