It sounds now like Graham Goode had been at the cooking sherry when he suggested Anzum as a possible front runner. However, his hurdle races up to this race had seen him up with the pace. This race and his two subsequent Festival runs saw him run on strongly from a mile back.
Yeah Anzum just couldn't go this pace at all but absolutely flew home. Shame there wasn't an Albert Bartlett back then he would have been a sure thing for that
Anzum was a tough horse who never looked comfortable when running, came from a mile back to finish 2nd in the stayers hurdle in 97 and then again was driven home from behind to win in 99 at 40-1. Oddly sometimes he did lead from the front and ran the opposition into the ground. Would like to know what happened to him as he was lightly raced.
Oh for the days when the Triumph would have between 25 and 30 runners unlike today.
Kissair went to Nicky Henderson's soon after and could only manage to win a 4 runner race at Bangor, the mind boggles.

Why didn’t the jockey on the second pull up after going thru the rails?
Cant remember Kissair amounting to much after this
