Ecuadorians are one of the friendliest people that I ever met. Love this country! Besos from Italy
My family is from Ecuador 🇪🇨
How many Ecuadorians have you met in your life?
because all my friends are bad spoken
@@soph5835 congratulations
Lol depends who u ask🤣
I lived in Quito Ecuador for half a year...truly the happiest time of my life. I have never met more fantastic and kind people.
Just a couple things...while only about 8% of Ecuadorians identify as indigenous, the actual percentage which would be considered "ethnically indigenous" is closer to 20%...but due to stigma or people not feeling like they live in the traditional style, a lot of indigenous people identify as Meztiso.
Also, people from Otavalo are called Otavaleños, not Otavalos. :P
Hi, ecuadorian here. Otavaleños is the name for the people from the city of Otavalo, but "Otavalos" is used to identify that ethnic group's people. But to be honest, no one here gives a damn.
Ecuadorian "Mestizo" population is on average 40-60% indigenous (more on the Sierra, less on the Coast) and about 5-10% black, but some people try to deny that just because they "appear" white. You just need around 40-50% of Caucasian blood to have blonde hair and lighter eyes and skin. Yet, due to Colorism, people tend to prefer relatives and friends who look "whiter" despite it being obvious they are mostly mixed. Unless your parents or grandparents come directly from Europe, you probably have indigenous blood running through your veins.
@Elena Reyes That's about what I said, that they are on average 50% indigenous. But on the Coast is more common to find a little bit less Indigenous people due to the maritime ports being there and the influx of people from the other countries. But that there are pure Indigenous people on the coast is true, just a little less than in the Sierra.
@J Daniel no need to be rude
Hy I'm ecuatorian. Statistics indicate that until 1970 more than 50% of the population was indigenous and another large percentage was Montubia. However, currently the vast majority of people deny themselves, which discrimination and lack of identity have done. It is nice to read this and I do not take it badly, I am proud to say that I am indigenous. What really surprise me is that the people of this country deny themselves, they don't realize that the most beautiful thing about a country is its culture and its identity. If I said this elsewhere or in Spanish, probably many people would attack me claiming that they are "meztizos" but the truth is that this country has very little foreign influence, except in certain places (very few) where that does happen.
Hola a Ecuador de Azerbaiyán. ¡Amo Ecuador! Deben estar orgullosos de su país. Porque el nombre de la línea del ecuador por el nombre de su país. ¡Amores de Azerbaiyán!🇦🇿❤🇪🇨

I lived in Ecuador for a year so I've been waiting for this one. Was kind of hoping you'd talk about the crazy water-throwing fest that is Carnival (future tourists now can't say I didn't warn you) but other than that you covered pretty much all the salient points. Thanks for making the episode!!

that "they become happy listening to sad music" quote is super accurate. Ecuadorians have this love for pasillos, a very slow, sad type of music, usually about broken hearts, and often accompanied by some very strong liquor. but they really enjoy it and sing very loudly while playing cards
Yaaayyyyy!!!.. Ecuador video came out just in time... August 10th!, Our National Day... Best timing ever Barby!!!

Thank you for doing a Geography Now on our beautiful country, Ecuador! We're the friendly weirdos of Latin America. We get along with the socialist countries, but we're also cool with the U.S. friendly ones as well. We used to not get along with with Peru but we're cool now. We have indigenous, but also Caribbean influences as well. We're literally smack in the middle of everyone!
jsphat81 heck yeah! guayaquileño orgulloso
Bruno Peñaloza What are you talking about? Almost every time Peru fought against Ecuador, it was because the Ecuadorians began invading our territory and the only thing we were doing was to defend ourselves.
Bruno Peñaloza Traitors to whom? Who are we betraying? I’d love to know what your conspiracy theory is on this subject.

Quick story about my trip to Ecuador back in 2000. I happen to visit in the same week that the Sucre was eliminated and the U.S. Dollar was instituted as the national currency. Anyway , we went to visit the Cotopaxi Volcano . We drove in an Suv to the end of the road which was at 16,000 feet altitude . Our plan was to hike to the snow base , then return to the truck to drive back down . But I experienced EXTREME altitude poisining. It felt like I was intoxicated with an enormous headache , nausea I almost passed out. I had to get driven back Down the mountain , and back to Quito where I spent the next few hours in a clinic , and then was bed ridden for 3 days where I couldn't eat , and I slept around 13 hours a day. I learned that day , that the mountain always wins if you don't respect her . The rest of my trip to Ecuador was excellent. Great food , great people , and enchanting places.

The whole 3 course meal for $3 in Ecuador is true, that's why we were confused when we moved to the US bc here one plate alone is at least double that, if not more
And we eat soup a lot. Almost every day. While it seems like soups are not not an every day thing in USA.

Ecuador seems awesome! I had a classmate from Ecuador up until recently, when he changed to another school. His name was Eric and he often hung out with his friend Joaquin, who is from Chile. Oddly enough, I seldom or maybe even never heard them speak Spanish to each other.

Cindy, you did it! Congrats, great channel. Saludos desde Guayaquil.
The Prussian Geographer and Naturalist Alexander Von Humboldt once said “Ecuadorians are rare and unique beings: they sleep peacefully amid crunchy volcanoes, live poor in the midst of incomparable wealth and rejoice in sad music” (classic Ecuadorian music such as “pasillo”, “san juanito”, “yaravi” or “albazo”are really sad) and as an Ecuadorian I can say it’s true
Wait, PENGUINS?! In Ecuador???
Actually they do have penguins in Isabela Island at Galapagos Archipelago

It's really cool you introduce people behind the scenes a lot. I think more youtubers should do that since they are such a big part of what makes the show.
I'm Ecuadorian, raised there yet born in NYC, and I'm probably the whitest Ecuadorian in existence since my father is British. People try to speak to in English when I go there, I love the look on their faces when I reply in fluent Spanish. (I don't have an accent either)

Today is Ecuador's Independence Day!
(I'm not from Ecuador, I just know it).
That is a strange coincidence this was uploaded on the country's independence day.
possibly done on purpose?
OMG YEAH feliz día de independencia!!!
Boris Torres
Do you do anything special for Independence Day in Ecuador?
no! the 10 of August not was the independence day it was when the first person start to think in the independence in all America and it was in Quito, it was difficult to the Ecuadorians get the independence, that's why we don't was the first ones but because of that person all the people of Ecuador start to think it and start planing the independence. That's why Quito take the name of 'light of America' because the idea of the independence not only was for Ecuador, other countries hear it too and start to think about it.
This video was published in my birthday wow awesome
I really loved this video, I’ve been following you for about 2 or 3 years and I didn’t know this video existed, Ecuador is beautiful!
The food looks great! My mouth started watering when you showed it. I encourage you guys to include more of the typical food from each country in each video.
Awesome country, especially if you like being outdoors in nature. So much variety. I actually climbed Reventador (one of the volcanoes mentioned in the video) when it was putting out lava flows a few years ago, and also Tungarahua volcano while it was undertaking small, frequent ash eruptions (I didn't go all the way to the summit, that would have been pretty dangerous). If you like volcanoes, Ecuador is basically heaven (also Guatemala, Indonesia and Chile). You can also drive a car to nearly 17,000 feet above sea level (well over 5,000 metres), to the base camp refugio where people stay and acclimatize (to the high elevation, low oxygen) when undertaking expeditions climbing Chimborazo volcano (an extinct volcano whose summit is the farthest place on the surface of the Earth from Earth's center, since the Earth bulges as you get towards the equator). It's not the highest road on the planet (that is either in Bolivia or Pakistan/India/China...basically the Himalayas - it depends on how you define "road"), but it's higher than most people will get to drive in their lifetimes (it's over 1,000 metres higher than the road to the telescopes at the summit of Mauna Kea in Hawaii).
The Ecuadorian Amazon is some of the least well-explored rainforest on the planet...it's absolutely beautiful there, and it's fairly cheap and easy to access. You might pay as an individual, 50 USD per day for an excursion to one of many rainforest camps that have river access (and if you're in a group of more than 4-5 people, that goes down to 35 USD per day or so, accomodation and food included). Just be careful, and have good situational awareness as you walk - on one of my rainforest hikes, I almost stepped on a fer-de-lance snake; if you get envenomated by a snake in the Ecuadorian Amazon, especially the fer-de-lance, bushmaster or coral snake, your chances of survival are quite low since you're several hours away from a hospital, and those reptiles have killed people in under 6 hours (bushmaster can be as low as 2 hours, if he gets a good injection in). Fun stuff.
Finally, the people in Ecuador are AMAZING. Very tough people, especially the mountain folk. These guys live in an environment with up to 40% less oxygen than there is at sea level, and yet you see them in great shape, hauling bundles of wood on their backs over a few miles, or biking between villages at 4,500 metres above sea level. Also, some of the younger people LOVE to push themselves. Climbing Reventador, I met a young lady on the trail who was celebrating her 31st birthday by undertaking a grueling rainforest hike and thousand metre mountain climb. By herself. Just to see if she still had it in her.
❤ Thanks. Hope that you can visit us again.
Gran país Ecuador, saludos! 🇪🇨
I love when you all bring in guests from the country. more of that please
I literally love you dude :D And I do love Ecuador, I've been living there for a while and it's amazing. Congrats from Spain!

And the current government isn't corrupt?
Genuine question, not trying to make a political statement.
aariix3 Any chance of getting your original currency back? Is it Venezuela type socialism there or European type social democracy?
Sorry, have quite a few questions jaja.
they are corrupt. Even more then the old politicians, sooo
Don't believe aariix3, must be one of those correa fangirls, or a troll. The truth is that this government has had the biggest oil income EVER, and yet somehow has managed to enlarge our international debt to stupidly big figures. We are living on credit. He has presold oil to the chinese for the next decade, he has raised taxes in the middle of a recession and has made our economy gonverment dependant. If oil money goes down, state has less money, people don't get paid, economic crisis happens. A disaster. The future seems pretty dark for ecuadorian economy.
From my very limited research on the internet and this comment section. It seems that most Ecuadorians either REALLY love the Correa or REALLY hate Correa. Very strong opinions on both sides.
Cindy is adorable! I love her accent, she reminds me so much of a friend of mine 😊 it's also really cool that you include people actually coming from the countries you're describing!

FYI:
In geography, the antipode of any spot on Earth is the point on Earth's surface diametrically opposite to it. A pair of points antipodal to each other are situated such that a straight line connecting the two would pass through Earth's center. Antipodal points are as far away from each other as possible. (Note: In British English, "antipodes" can be either singular or plural.)
That being said, Ecuador had pairs of antipodes with 3 Southeast Asian countries; Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (yep, you're heard that right).
They are:
>>>Exact or almost exact antipodes
1. Esmeraldas city (the capital of Esmeraldas Province) is in exact antipode of Padang city (the capital of West Sumatera Province); and
2. Machachi city (small city in Pichincha Province) are the same exact antipode of Pekanbaru city (the capital of Riau Province)
>>>Close from the antipodes
3. Guayaquil, Guayas with Medan, North Sumatera;
4. Quito with Singapore; and
5. Cuenca, Azuay with Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Another fact about Ecuador. The world-famous Panama hat is actually Ecuadorian. It became famous during the construction of Panama´s channel. Many hats were imported from Ecuador during that period for the people working there. The proper name of these hats should be "Toquilla straw hat" which is often considered as one of the finest and most elegant hats in the world.
