The interior design has a lot of Carolina Circle mall vibes, though the outside is entirely different. I wonder if that architectural style was contemporary for 1990s malls?

Billy, I worked in the food court there my senior year of high school, its first year open, at the Great Steak and Potato Company, next to Panda Express. I had a lot of fun at that mall. The food court also had a Wendy's and ChickFilA back then.

Here in the Albany, NY area we lost 3 or 4 malls over the past two decades... Northway Mall (opposite Colonie Center, now a strip mall), Mohawk Mall (now the Mohawk Commons strip plaza with a Walmart, Price Chopper and others), Latham Circle Mall (had JC Penney and Caldor's, now a strip plaza with Lowe's, Walmart and Bob's Furniture), and Rotterdam Mall (now Via Port Rotterdam under now ownership after being foreclosed on two years ago)

really sucks to see another great mall bite the dust. these mall owners should start doing what rhode island's arcade did and turn the shops into apartments. (imagine stepping out to go grab something to eat down at the food court!)

Unfortunately this isn't a unique story. Malls all across the US are closing for a variety of reasons. Online shopping, economic changes, population migration, generational shifts in spending habits and more. It's a shame. I always loved going to the mall as a kid.
I'm also really starting to miss physical media. Sure, downloads are way more convenient, but theres just something nice about being able to browse artwork on games, movies, and albums.

It's so sad to see them all closing. Amazon and online shopping killed them after the resection. I miss the malls of the 1980's and early 1990's, arcades in all of them, that 1980's vibe. Being able to shop around. Still go to the malls instead of shopping online for what ever I can.

Stores like Best Buy and Fry's prove that retail stores *can* still be relevant in today's age, but not as often anymore, again due to stuff like online shopping. My hope is that malls won't completely die off, but evolve like they have in Europe.

Sad to see all these malls die. The last video I seen the GNC and B&BW was still open. One of them always seems to be the last man standing.

Oh my. I like how you have adapted your new intro for your special presentations. Also, are you taking photos of this mall for your website?
6:50 Of course, here where I live, it's perfectly normal to have a restaurant inside of a mall, due to the limited space of the country itself.

Billy, you said it was odd to see an abandoned Golden Coral. Well, there is one near my house. It did VERY WELL for a Golden Coral. However, I never seemed to see the cars move from the parking lot and it was typically the same people in there every time I went (I only ever went twice). Its building still stands next to a Lowe's and across the street from a super Walmart and Interstate on and off ramps. Couldn't have a much better location than that.

Goodness, it is indeed very neat to see you getting the mall's final days on video. Things like that are always important in my opinion. It's very sad to see it having turned into such a desolate wasteland though.
There's actually a mall I used to go to a lot myself that is in awful shape as well. It used to be a hopping place, but now there's better things in both directions of the highway, which has pretty much doomed it to a fate of rotting. I think most of the anchor stores are still open save for a Dillard's, but less than half of the smaller stores remain, and almost all of them are no-name stores (you can even tell where the Disney Store used to be by its design, it's now a generic mom and pop toy store), most of which are run by people who don't even speak English. I should try getting it on video myself before it's gone for good, no closure has been announced but I have trouble believing it won't be.

Its a shame to see these Malls going into such decline, The shopping centre/Mall near me is still thriving, it opened in the late 80's. Although it being at the heart of the city centre has been a huge advantage. I think as with most things location is key.

I just saw on Facebook you wrote about that this mall closed a year ago.
The funny thing is that the closest mall to me is Pólus Center(Budapest) - since i'm from Hungary and it's as old as Oak Hollow Mall (opened in 1996) and it's still open since the shops and fun stuff there attracts thousands of people every day. The parking spaces are full usually in the afternoon when everyone goes home from work, but in the morning it's just quarter as full(and it's less crowded) as if it was afternoon.

Surprising that this mall is closing after so few years. Patrick Henry Mall here in Newport News opened in 1987 and has actually gotten a few renovations since then, one being in the mid 90's and another in the early to mid 2000's.

It reminds me of the Madison Square Mall in Huntsville, Alabama that's currently being demolished. I have many fond memories of the place. It had a 90s look to it as well. A new, modern indoor mall was built in the early 2000s that started drawing people away, and the final nail in the coffin was an outdoor mall that was built not far from it. They're planning to replace it with another outdoor mall on the same spot. I don't understand the appeal of outdoor malls. There's no climate control, and you're out in the elements during all seasons. I read that they got the concept from outdoor malls in Los Angeles. Well, Los Angeles isn't the same as northern Alabama. We don't have palm trees and 70s and 80s year-round like they do. It's the hip thing with the upcoming generation, so that's what's in.

Too bad... It must be hard to do business in a small town, with all these malls closing. I hope they do something with the building instead of just letting it go to waste.

This sucks. Apparently, a mall that we used to go to at Christmas time to take pictures with the Mall Santa called Great Northern Mall is closing down too in Mid-2017. I never been in that place ever since like about 5 (or even more than that) months ago with my friend to watch a horror movie (forgot the name, it was new at the time) and it did seem a little empty then but not so much. I hate it how because of how advanced technology is becoming, the favorite places you went in the past can just vanish infront of your eyes.

According to my photography teacher, you should be legally allowed to film things and or people in public places as long as it isn't private property. I film and take photos quite often when people are around but it is risky though. Sometimes it can make people uncomfortable so I try not to film them directly if I can. I have only gotten yelled at a couple of times by someone who thought I was filming them when I wasn't.

Is the mall a public place, like a park or on the street? Or is it a privately owned business that are allowed to enforce rules like that. I really want to know because I don't live near any malls except the one 70 miles away in Reno, NV that I go to about twice a year at most. I could have sworn I walked around it with a camera at one time with no problem. I filmed around and in the local Walmart quite often in the past few years and they don't seem to have a problem with it, but I never made it obvious either.

The reason I don't go to mall anymore is that all the stores in all malls cater 99.999999% to women. Nothing but dress and shoe stores and no electronic, auto or plain gadget retail. I live 8 blocks from the Del Amo Mall which is the 6th largest mall in the U.S and this fucking place does not even have a gad damn gamestop yet alone anything else guys would be interested in.
