I throw on a white button down shirt, a black skirt or pants and a statement necklace and either a pair of black pumps or ballet flats. Easy peasy. 🙂
I loooove the juxtaposition of dressy and casual in the same outfit, that’s my sweet spot as well, I never feel right in all one of the other. To dress something up, I typically change the top, and put on longer earrings, rather than the posts I usually wear. Thanks for sharing!

I have a similar striped blazer and it's my pride and joy. I love yours, with the gold buttons. All the versions of the outfit looked so good! This is definitely my philosophy when styling basics: where am I going? How do I want to feel? Never fails. Great video, Naja! 💜
I think shoes are what changes my outfits the most. But I love how you are able to change up your whole look with the jeans vs. outerwear vs. boots. Lovely.
It's funny because, as the level of dressing up or down is definitely a factor in the outfits I choose, I never think about it in that way. I do have a "work wardrobe" and 100% casual wear that I like to wear on weekends, but I do feel that I don't want to be too dressed up at work either (I'm a teacher and wouldn't be comfortable in a full blown office wear attire). The exemple of the bag really spoke to me in your video. So I guess it can be something to work on to pinpoint my style a little more 😊
In winter, a good pair of tall boots is all I go to dress up any outfit. In spring/autumn, a blazer can make wonders, no matter if I am In jeans+converse (my usual uniform) although I also play a lot with shoes, by changing sneakers to loafers. Love how you play with your outerwear. Your trench In amaazing!

When I want to dress up I start by wearing black. Then upgrade the black jeans to other black pants if I want an even more put together effect, and as a last thing I wear my preppy shoes if I want an extra touch!

Your tips are so helpful! Balance can be hard to achieve in light of preference and local culture. I live in a very casual place, so even a balanced look causes me to get questions about why I’m dressed up. I balance that though with the fact that, “this is just how I like to dress!” And people are surprised but respect it, sometimes talking to me more directly and formally (which is great because I am an almost 30 year old who looks 17 lol). Question… about your skirts. With short lengths and light fabrics such as the silk, do you wear any kind of short underneath to prevent accidental flashes when going about outside? I’ve been looking for a close to my skin tone nude type of bike short or shape wear to wear under skirts and dresses that come to just above my knee for that purpose. Especially since I do have a young child and I am active. I am right there with you about sneakers and boots! I love my sneakers but tend to wear them with my trousers because when I wear them with jeans and a blazer, I end up looking like all the young people in my social circle and looked at that way so I try to stand out with something else! I will also use an unstructured bag, like my well-worn leather tote or a canvas bag to tone an outfit down while still wearing boots. It’s amazing how much a bag can change a look! All my bags are crossbody so they can stay with me. Also makeup such as a lipstick color and bolder brows. I usually wear a nude lip color by day and lighter brows, sometimes just curled lashes too. Looks much more casual. Little things like these really contribute to the overall vibe of yourself. I also have my “sneaker boots” and “dressy boots”! *high five*
I have been on the hunt continuously for a dusty blue silk/linen/or cotton blazer! That’s the color I really want but haven’t had any luck yet. It’s been a wishlist item for 2 years now 🙏🏻😅.
Thank you for sharing! I only wear shorts for summer and I tend to wear a light cotton bike short, but I am on the lookout for some better, newer ones myself as well. But for the most time with the skirt, I do feel fine. It's long and slim enough that I don't flash anyone 😄
Good luck with the blazer, some pieces can just take literal years to find.
Maybe a nude panty that is cut like shorts but with a tight fit would be easier to find and also better because the legs don't show as soon as the skirt comes up ?

A truly preppy outfit would have loafers with no socks. It seems what you’re talking about in your more dressed up styles is business casual or dressy casual. Preppy is collared shirt, sweater, pearls, loafers, khakis/dress pants, etc. I’m from the southeastern part of the U.S and next to New England preppy it’s about as preppy as you can get.
Yeah I think Naja misunderstood what "preppy" means. It's a specific style, it's not synonymous to "dressed up" or "formal" as the video suggests.
You might be right with the terminology, Robyn, but I feel I get the idea of the style Naja is referring to and the terminology is not the key issue, especially not to my kind of not native English speaker.
@@outikoskela4146 You’re right, having lived with preppy dress most of my life, 62 years, the term preppy conjures a very specific imagine, but I can see how it would translate differently.
