    I remember seeing the trailer for this movie in the theater. The trailer was pretty much the scene of the daughter getting kidnapped and then Liam giving that monologue over the phone to the kidnapper. It ended with the kidnapper saying, "Good luck." I turned to my friend and said, "I'm seeing that movie the day it comes out."

      They even had "I WILL FIND YOU. I WILL KILL YOU" in large quotations on the blu ray cover. Just instantly iconic.

    This movie started Liam Neeson's late career stage as an action lead kicking ass.

    Love this movie. It established Liam Neeson as an action star.
    The quality goes down a bit with the sequels, but they are still worth watching.
    My favorite recent Liam Neeson action movie is Memory. It's different.

    Here is the problem of Lenore and Kim. The fact that Kimmy was acting very immature when
    Brian gave his permission for her to on the trip. That told me that, as a father myself, she wasn't mature enough to be roaming around Europe as a 17 yr old. I would NOT have given her the permission to go. She was so immature.

    23:30 This is a censored version of the movie. In the original he used 2 large nails and drove them into his knees to electrify him. Attaching the 2 leads to the chair would only short out the circuit and trip the circuit breaker.

    One of the morals of the story - never, ever, ever allow your teenager to go overseas, or to any unfamiliar town/city with no supervision. It's asking for major trouble.

    Liam Neeson was an Irishman who was an ex-boxer.
    Went on to become helluva actor and also an Oscar nominee (Best Actor in Schindler's List, 1993).
    20 years plus into his career, this franchise made him the new thinking man's action hero.
    The phone call scene is unforgettable and major selling point of the movie in it's first trailer.
    Part 2 is great.
    Part 3 is decisive for not being a good finale.
    A prequel tv series to the first film ran for 2 seasons.
    The creators of TAKEN are Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, Leon The Professional) & Robert Mark Kamen (The original Karate Kid films, 1984-94).
    They wrote other incredible gems together:
    Kiss of The Dragon (2001), The Transporter films with Jason Statham (2002-2008), Unleashed (2005) and Columbiana (2011).
    You got to watch all of these if you can.

    @35:52. Wrong, a mother doesn't have the right to try to prevent the father from being in his children's lives; it doesn't matter what his job is. Unlike what you said, no, the mother isn't being protective , she is being narcissistic......cause if she cared about the children, she would want the father to be part of their lives, that's their rights and obligations as well.

    It's really important to remember that even though this stuff goes on, it is not common and most people who travel are perfectly fine. Travelling is a really valuable life experience, and while we all need to be cautious and take appropriate protections we shouldn't let fear stop us from doing it at all.
    I've travelled all around the world, both with others and alone, for months on every continent, and not once did I experience any crime of any sort, let alone kidnapping and trafficking. Even the two people I know personally who did experience scary crimes, out of hundreds, didn't experience anything like this; in one case someone broke into my friend's bedroom while she was sleeping, and in another my (female) friend was kidnapped at knife-point, but in both cases the perpetrator simply wanted to rob them: the guy who broke in was just trying to grab any cash that he could find, and the girl who was kidnapped was taken to an ATM and forced to hand over cash before the kidnappers drove off. Both of those happened in Africa, not Europe. Kidnapping and trafficking do happen, but they are very rare, especially in a country like France.

    • @fluffylittlebear
      @fluffylittlebear Рік тому

      It isn't as rare as you think it is. The thing is, you never hear about it. People just disappear and nobody knows what happens to them. It doesn't get reported as "kidnapped and trafficked." Just a missing person. There are 40 million slaves in the world as we speak, and that's a low estimate.

    • @phueal
      @phueal Рік тому

      @@fluffylittlebear no, it isn’t. Almost all westerners who get kidnapped while travelling are rich business people being kidnapped for ransom, people being kidnapped by terrorists, or children being kidnapped by family. There are indeed millions of slaves, sadly, in our world today, but they are mostly internally trafficked or trafficked from poor countries to rich ones, not kidnapped westerners. According to “Hostage US”, they estimate that around 200-300 Americans are kidnapped overseas every year, mostly in Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil, Iran and North Korea. Around 8 million Americans visited France last year, so the odds are probably around 1 in a million at most.

    This is such an amazing and underrated movie, I absolutely love it! Liam Neeson was incredible.
    This really hit me hard when I first saw this, because my mom was almost a victim of human trafficking. She told me about it when I turned 18.
    I'm originally from Mexico, born there, and when I was a year old, I was brought to California and I've been here ever since, my dad came here first, but he was in a different part of California, and then I was brought here in November 1998 (I was almost 2), but my mom was still in Tijuana, and she remembered a woman coming up to her and asking her if she was heading to the US, my mom thought it was a woman my other family sent to pick her up. Long story short, it wasn't and my mom hid in a hotel room and heard that same broad and two assholes (who were probably from Venezuela based on the accents my mom heard) and she says that she remembers hearing them saying something along the lines of "valio Madre, vamos a ver cual otra nos llevamos" which translates to; "fuckin hell, let's go and see which other one we'll catch"
