The 90's were PURE MAGIC. I will be glad when I'm "up there" in age to tell young people the 90's were my generation (just like people are proud of their music generation in the 70's, 60's, 80's,etc.). I'll tell them about remembering my first time hearing Name, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Everlong, Smells Like Teen Spirit, and the million other classics that are uniquely a 90's sound. 90's will be immortalized in music history and will never fade away.
Ivy Martinez This comment describes me perfectly... too perfectly... (Although I guess technically this is a year old so whoever wrote this comment is now 16)
I was a teen in the 90's growing up in the DC hardcore punk scene. We were just a bunch of screwball kids from broken homes having a laugh and going to concerts. Most of my closest friends from that era have passed away. I think about them daily and I love this song.
I think we are all aching inside for something greater. This world is bitter and broken. Jesus died to make a way for all of us to have abundant life, peace and joy. Don't let this world tear you down. There is a better promise for your life.
Janet Weninger Sometimes music is just music. I am a Christian, but taking it too far and claiming everything in this life is God's direct responsibility is a little far fetched. Things happen in this world that are of no relation to God and that is just fine. Don't make it seem like Christians have to be this radical because all you're really doing is tearing down people's opinions of Christians as blinded cult followers
Marcus Munitions Thank you for your honesty. You are correct that some music is just music. I never claimed that everything in this life is God's direct responsibility. I said that God loves us, and He isn't a religion. He is in everything, because He created us. How do you separate aspects of your life from Him? My comment was to encourage anyone that is lost or confused about God, because too many people are broken and need to know that they are not alone. God promised to never leave us, and He told us to love others. I don't know how my comment was offensive to you, but I apologize if it bothers you. My intentions are never to tear down, but only to build others up with hope in God.
Phil Collins 91-96 is the golden age imo. 1995 gave us these albums alone: Mellon Collie, Soup, The Bends, Fungus Amongus, more I can't think off at the moment.

Heard this song on the radio leaving the walmart parking lot, it reminds me of my sons 28 who died tragically Aug 3rd 2021..... I cry every single time, because he was into acting and playing extras in many TV series, did you ever get to be a star is the lyric that suffocated me thinking of him... RIP my sweet boy....
Reminds me of childhood. My sometimes very dangerous adolescent years, jumping the Quincy Quarries, riding bikes with my friends, hoping on the train and going all around the city. This song reminds me of my childhood and my mom, RIP Mom, Luv You ❤
This is one that brings me back instantly to childhood. It’s an amazing feeling at first, but then it almost makes me cry. It was so different. this world, this country. I miss the 90s
First heard this on the school bus ride home a day in late September/early October '95. The best summer of my life had just ended, I was back in school and I had this sense that an Era in my life had just passed and things would never be that good again.
This reminds me of my 18th Birthday in late September 1995. This song and "Round Here" by Counting Crows went hand in hand. Was a dark time for me, I was let down and treated like shit by almost everyone around me... Was also a time when I wanted to give up on life. If it wasn't for one of my close life long mates calling when he did, I would've jumped...... Listening to this song makes me realize I did the right thing. I got rid of the toxic shit from my life and blossomed. I was eventually rewarded with 2 beautiful daughters, who I love more than life itself.... I am now 40 and I can honestly say I. LOVE. MY. LIFE!!!!!! Don't ever think you aren't worthy of Love and the good things in life, Because you are....
It's really crazy how music can express a sentiment. Like a song you heard alot in the past. A song heard alot with a deceased friend, or an ex. It's crazy how for those three minutes it feels like you're back in the room when you heard it
Im not a 90's kid, but growing up my dad listened to alot of these types of songs, which has greatly impacted my music choices. So to all the 90's kids out there, there are people still experienceing the same things you experienced when you were young, and as me being one of those people, I can relate to the great feelings you had when you were my age, I know we may have grown up in completely different times but the music back then still impacts people today
Best song ever written - and I know thousands of them. Well done, Johnny. Having lost both of your parents by High School age, dude, I have no clue how you're not just in some pissed off to the gills Satanic thrash metal band, but instead having managed to pen what to me is the most poignant song ever to come out of rock n roll. Well done.👊
Hey guys. I've been coping with a lot of sadness these past three days. Most of it surrounding death. Asking questions about if life after exists or if it doesn't and trying to come to terms with emotions about loved ones passing or even my own passing. If being forgotten even matters or not. I've stayed awake thinking about this all last night, crying my eyes out and trying to find meaning and the truth is just so simple. Enjoy the time you have been given, every moment is a gift and every emotion you feel makes you alive. Do what makes you happy guys and try and leave the world in a better place for the next person you love to cherish it. Just know that all that makes you special is what you perceive and never regret that. And thank you for existing at the same time.
I'm being 100% serious. It's 2021, and I'm not sure I've heard a better written song in the past 25 years after this one. Is just an amazing lyric. I can't wait until the Covid concerts are back again because the Goo Goo Dolls definitely come to South Florida when ready. And we're all definitely going

jendwy81 You're not crazy at all. I feel the same way about a song by Joe Satriani called "Always With Me, Always With You" (if you haven't heard it look it up, it's beautiful) and no matter how pretty the song is, it's still hard for me to make it through it, for some personal reasons.
+jendwy81 I know this is an old comment but this is exactly how I feel. Almost too good to listen to because of the emotion it call pull from the past can almost be too much to ponder
I honestly hit repeat on those first few bars several times. Such a sweet chord progression that's part of my childhood and that feel good part of the 90's.
Back when this song came up there was so much tragedies and lost in my life. I was young and confused. Battling with anxiety for 5 years and I thought I would never get recovered. It took another life disaster that made me crawl out of that dark abyss. I vow not to return.
I cry every time I listen to this song. This is the first song my daughter and I listened to, she always hug me so tight and never let go every time she would here this song playing. She was 3 the last time I seen her. She is 18 now. We share our Birthday and on January 12 I will be 41 she will be 19.
This song will always remind me of my daughter and just how lucky I am to be her father. Greatest thing to ever happen in my life was becoming her dad.
This song always makes me feel like I'm driving down a rural country road in early autumn, just after the crops have been harvested. Desolate, sad, but also beautiful.
This song reminds me of warm, childhood summer days driving through town with my mom. School was easy and lots of friends. Life was an adventure. Thanks for the memories.
When I first heard this song on Pandora (Thank you Pandorraaaa!!) I was sitting alone in the corner of my lunch room at school. And something about it made me just smile a lot... And the guitar little melody just is amazzzinng!

this song brings back fond memories of when I was in high school, I was a freshman in high school in 1996 and graduated in 1999, so basically I lived all my teenage high school years all through the late 90s and grew up as a child in the 1980s and early 90s. the music then was extraordinary, every artist was so popular. the artist them were legit real authentic artist. the best singers and bands of all time. even sports was more popular then, it was the golden era of hip hop and pop music and the golden era for rock bands and grudge music. even pro wrestling was extremely popular ..they were experiencing there big boom period called the Attitude era, ratings for television shows and movies and sports were at their peck..you dont see ratings like that anymore for even the popular shows today. are economy was at it all time high in America's history and Amerca was prosperous and everything was cheap. People met people the old fashion way not from FB or Twitter or Snapchat. People talked on phones for hours. I remember using that long cord phone and having to pull the cord out to talk outside. It was a special time. that I would give my right arm to experience, just once more. I miss you 1990s, a bygone era.

My brother and I saw them June 22 1996 at Six Flags Great Adventure. After rain and lightning delayed the show, it started after 8pm. Half way through the show, a fight broke out in the mosh pit and the band stopped playing. Debating whether to walk off the stage as the fighting continued for awhile, John started playing 'Name'. The fighting stopped immediately and light right started to fall.

And everytime i listen to that song i think of that day and the pine treese and black hills passing by. And us stopping at a rest stop and the little awim pond.
this song will stop you in your tracks like none other. makes ya hit rewind.... makes ya want the future. #1 song I could ever hear
Still gives me a shiver down my spine as it did the first time I heard this song. Great tune for all time!!
As for so many, music is my life..ive written it, played it and listened to it endless hours..when I had to bury my youngest daughter, iris was her favorite song..I still can hear her singing it with me..
Thank you for keeping her alive in my heart with your music, goo goo dolls
"You could hide beside me maybe for a while and I wont tell no one your name" to me this song means whatever your past is and/or your flaws.I'll protect you and you can just be yourself with out judgement.LOVE LOVE this song..Id love some1 to hide beside...
This is one of the few songs that I can and have listened to MANY HUNDREDS of times and NEVER tire of - and in fact - STILL gets me emotional. There are so many timeless and truly brilliant lines in this song that is simply unrivaled to me...LOVE THIS SONG FOREVER !!!!
Absolute greatest acoustic guitar jam in the history of music, towards the end of this song here ❤
Dave C Very underrated jam. You nailed it. Acoustic is def
Dave C the song is (sadly) very difficult to play which adds to the amount of respect it gets.
Dang im 15 listening to this now and some kids my age dont even know good songs like this exist. I much rather prefer this over the music now days 💕
Ivy Martinez I'm 19 and I haven't found a single person that knows this band as well as I do
Ivy Martinez This comment describes me perfectly...
too perfectly...
(Although I guess technically this is a year old so whoever wrote this comment is now 16)
Never forget where we came from.
Same here. Everyone's obsessed with dababy and they dont even know songs like this exist
Well now your 19 or 18, and I’m 15 and can assure you that almost nobody knows that music like this even exists. And I wouldn’t if it want for my dad.
DieselDog77 r.i.p to ur friends who passed
Only the good die young.
Born in 91. Makes me think of the simpler times when my parents were still together and everything was easier. I miss the 90s
This guitar riff is one of a kind and it shows folks
this shit makes me cry. I wanna go to the 90s again
Era of probably some of the most amazing hidden gems of music.
Phil Collins 91-96 is the golden age imo. 1995 gave us these albums alone: Mellon Collie, Soup, The Bends, Fungus Amongus, more I can't think off at the moment.
Me too. The best times of my life.
Only listen to this when I'm depressed :'(
❤❤❤❤
Where the hell have I been all these years, for this superb song to pass me by,absolutley love it,cant stop playing it.
26 years ago today this song was popular, we lost our first daughter at 33 weeks, we never got a chance to know her. I just want her to come back down, I won't tell em' your name.
21 weeks for us. She would’ve been a year old by now. Hurts everyday and will forever.
37 for me
The 90s wasn’t a decade. It was an emotion.
I wish every day to go back to that decade and for my now 11 yr old to experience childhood like that 😢❤
Heard this song on the radio leaving the walmart parking lot, it reminds me of my sons 28 who died tragically Aug 3rd 2021..... I cry every single time, because he was into acting and playing extras in many TV series, did you ever get to be a star is the lyric that suffocated me thinking of him... RIP my sweet boy....
This song reminds me of an ex who passed away 7 years tomorrow in a car accident...still think of her everyday...I love you Nicole...
+Timothy Pelletier I'm so sorry for your loss.
sorry bruh
sorry for your loss. take care.
damn sorry to hear that
I am sorry, I hope someday you meet her again
Reminds me of childhood. My sometimes very dangerous adolescent years, jumping the Quincy Quarries, riding bikes with my friends, hoping on the train and going all around the city. This song reminds me of my childhood and my mom, RIP Mom, Luv You ❤
12-13-17
I absolutely love this song. Pretty sure my replay button should be broken
This song is brutally sad.
Well said!
It's seriously my life
I am 22 years old and I have never heard this song before until It came on to the radio and now I can't get enough of it. It's soo good! 😭😭
Cookie Wookie I needed this,
Thank you.
Amen
This song got me crying about things that never happened
Hey
@@christinaward9858 it's gonna be OK
I think getting the feels is good for you sometimes it's good to let out some of the pressure.
Awesome comment
@@PeteNThat God, I hope so.
We grew up way too fast and now there's nothing to believe.
This song to me is just indescribable. It’s indescribably good, even after all this time…
It's really crazy how music can express a sentiment. Like a song you heard alot in the past. A song heard alot with a deceased friend, or an ex. It's crazy how for those three minutes it feels like you're back in the room when you heard it
One of the better 90s tunes. Dolls are a great band.
haven't heard this in a while n didn't even no they sung this song, just would hear song on radio every now n then!!
This song and this band deserve WAY more credit in 2018
And also in 2019, Saturday,June 22👍
Well done.👊
You don't need to diss other genres to say the one you like is good.
Metal is just another genre to release emotions in their own way. I love metal and I love rock alternative indie or whatever this is classified as
One of my favorites from the 90's...growing up during this time, never realized how great it was until they was gone. Good times!
Whenever I hear this song, I have to pause and truly listen. So much emotion woven throughout it. I can feel it in my bones.
"Don't it make you sad, to know that life is more then who we are?"
Isaac Booker if it makes the average person sad, it must make Narcissists fall into deep depression. haha!
this was my grad song. 2003. time flies. enjoy life guys
i graduated in 2000, and Goo Goo Dolls were definately one of my faves back then. Still are actually.
Graduated in 2011 and was STILL OBSESSED.
Same year ❤️
2:11 makes me sad every time . Makes me miss the love I let vanish through the years.
😔
I'm being 100% serious. It's 2021, and I'm not sure I've heard a better written song in the past 25 years after this one.
Is just an amazing lyric.
I can't wait until the Covid concerts are back again because the Goo Goo Dolls definitely come to South Florida when ready.
And we're all definitely going
Love this song but in my opinion goo goo dolls best song is broadway
They just write great lyrics
100% agree!
Keep it on
What's a covid concert?
This song is pure poetry ♥️
This has too much nostalgia for me, I almost can't listen to it even though its beautiful. Does that even make sense?
jendwy81 makes perfect sense to me !! Nostalgia is something that's hard to pinpoint since it' s different for each individual reminding us of better times past [OBVIOUSLY BEING NOSTALGIC!]I recall getting more involved in my own pursuit of music at the time of this single's release ;searching for something a little more real in my life [ AS CLICHE AS THAT MIGHT SOUND!] hope to post some more ideas soon until then hope this music takes you to a safe and happy place!!
pvtrichter88 thanks! I no longer feel crazy lol :D
jendwy81 You're not crazy at all. I feel the same way about a song by Joe Satriani called "Always With Me, Always With You" (if you haven't heard it look it up, it's beautiful) and no matter how pretty the song is, it's still hard for me to make it through it, for some personal reasons.
jb111082 satch ftw!
+jendwy81 I know this is an old comment but this is exactly how I feel. Almost too good to listen to because of the emotion it call pull from the past can almost be too much to ponder
Can I just live in the 90s and early 2000s for the rest of my life?
can i go with u? musics sucks nowadays!
can i go?
Count me in..
Im in
...
Why don't we just start a band together and bring music like this back into popularity where it should be?
Soon as it starts. That open E progression. This is my ultimate key to my memories of the 90s. As soon as Name starts. I love this feeling.
I honestly hit repeat on those first few bars several times. Such a sweet chord progression that's part of my childhood and that feel good part of the 90's.
Even back then, there was always something special about this song. The lyrics hit home.
Same!!!
Boy the 90s are full of great memories. I remember listening to this song on the radio in my room.
Back when this song came up there was so much tragedies and lost in my life. I was young and confused. Battling with anxiety for 5 years and I thought I would never get recovered. It took another life disaster that made me crawl out of that dark abyss. I vow not to return.
Scars are souvenirs you never lose.
Thosemay be some the most powerful lyrics I've ever heard.
I cry every time I listen to this song. This is the first song my daughter and I listened to, she always hug me so tight and never let go every time she would here this song playing. She was 3 the last time I seen her. She is 18 now. We share our Birthday and on January 12 I will be 41 she will be 19.
I'm sorry
This song will always remind me of my daughter and just how lucky I am to be her father. Greatest thing to ever happen in my life was becoming her dad.
This song always makes me feel like I'm driving down a rural country road in early autumn, just after the crops have been harvested. Desolate, sad, but also beautiful.
It's 2022 now. So many years gone just exist in the memories. Life was so much simpler and miss it so much.
Been a while since I've listened to this, one of my all time favorite songs for sure.
Crying about a life mirrored in a song that I sang in middle school... Fucking amazing😔
This song reminds me of warm, childhood summer days driving through town with my mom. School was easy and lots of friends. Life was an adventure. Thanks for the memories.
My beautiful daughter, living in Japan, loves this song. I miss her every day
When I first heard this song on Pandora (Thank you Pandorraaaa!!) I was sitting alone in the corner of my lunch room at school. And something about it made me just smile a lot... And the guitar little melody just is amazzzinng!
I flipped shit when I first heard this song... for some odd reason, it really made me think about this girl I like...
it's a very complicated piece but it is so amazing to listen to.
+KatieCat it took Pandora coming out for you to hear the Goo Goo Dolls? i'm sorry to hear that, you could've been enjoying them for a while.....
goo goo dolls have always had great song hope they help you with life ;)
+Ohio Against The World I had heard the song Iris a long time ago, but they never felt relatable until then. They've quickly became my favorite band; I hope to see them live some time this year.
Find a good dream and don't let go even if it takes decades, universe is a great tester..❤
this song brings back fond memories of when I was in high school, I was a freshman in high school in 1996 and graduated in 1999, so basically I lived all my teenage high school years all through the late 90s and grew up as a child in the 1980s and early 90s. the music then was extraordinary, every artist was so popular. the artist them were legit real authentic artist. the best singers and bands of all time. even sports was more popular then, it was the golden era of hip hop and pop music and the golden era for rock bands and grudge music. even pro wrestling was extremely popular ..they were experiencing there big boom period called the Attitude era, ratings for television shows and movies and sports were at their peck..you dont see ratings like that anymore for even the popular shows today. are economy was at it all time high in America's history and Amerca was prosperous and everything was cheap. People met people the old fashion way not from FB or Twitter or Snapchat. People talked on phones for hours. I remember using that long cord phone and having to pull the cord out to talk outside. It was a special time. that I would give my right arm to experience, just once more. I miss you 1990s, a bygone era.
I agree completely! there wasn't any social media back then. Our social media was taking pictures with a polaroid camera or throw away camera haha . Friday nights were about watching TGIF and Saturday mornings were about watching cartoons and saved by the bell etc . Not only that people weren't as sensitive as they are today people were more chill back then
gina julian yup right, it is was a awesome time indeed.
This song is one big trip back down memory lane!!!!!
How can anyone dislike this song. So many amazing memories. 90s was the best fckn time of my life
omg i love this song, i wasn’t born when this came out but today my dad played this song in the car and he told me he wanted to listen, i’m really glad i put down my phone and really listened this song is amazing and sad, i love it
oh high school memories..skeeping class and smuggling beer inside the classroom. i miss the 90's!
How do you skip class and bring beer to class at the same time? Those two choices might have affected your logic a bit..
thesmokinggun42 don't be a wise ass, you know what he meant. I hate you grammar trolls. Get a life.
paranormalfrank Lol chilll bro, learn how to take a damn joke
***** Yes master
***** No one is forcing you to read the comments while you listen to the song, dumbass. It's not like you can hear his voice over the song.
This song is legitimately beautiful. “I think about you all the time. But I don’t need the same”. Speaks to me so much.
Probably one of the most underrated songs of the 90s! My wife passed away in 96 of pneumonia. This song will always remind me of her.
Love this song...Man these lyrics just touched a lot of emotions I had back when I heard this as teenager back in 95'..
This is an absolute treasure of the 90's.
The 90s were the happiest time of my life and the music was the very best.
One of my favorite groups. Love listening to their music. Love you guys
This song is superb! Music at its finest. Evokes so much nostalgia and longing. That being said, all of you saying how music nowadays sucks, you guys are a slave to a time that will never be again. It’s sad that the present is passing you and you’re so jaded you’re unable to appreciate it.
Glad to say these guys are from Buffalo, NY!
