I did not hear (except maybe images) of the distinction between individual and corporate copyright. As a scholar librarian, I have always been bothered by having to cede copyright to the journal for an article I have written or friends who have had to cede copyright to a publisher because they have written a book that was part of a series.
Great question. I hadn't considered that before. However, I did touch on it a bit when I discussed my husband's entry in his family book. He owns the copyright because he wrote it. HOWEVER, if we cede copyright to another entity, then we have to deal with that contract and the entity's copyright. However, we should be able to obtain permission from the publishing entity to use portions of our own writing in a book (not the entire book most likely). Or we need to follow the principles of Fair Use.

Do copyrights ever expire?
Yes. 70 years after the death of the author, in the US.
Maybe the heirs of David Bartley will see this video & finally realized that "crazy lady" wasn't so crazy after all ... and certainly not a scammer.
