I remember when I bought this album. I had learned about it through her fan club. They had a used import copy of the cd behind the counter at Aron's Records in Hollywood, CA. I was able to listen to it and was taken aback by the classic folk rock musical style. I decided not to get it. The songs and the quality of her voice, even before her classic Disco material started, just stood out in my mind and I drove all the way back to that store to buy that cd. I loved the title track the minute I heard it and come to really enjoy many other tracks like Born To Die, The Hostage and others. Folk rock is before my time but the familiarity (and strength) of her voice makes the songs very enjoyable. This album is like an anomaly of what was to come from Donna Summer but also cements that fact that her roots are not in disco, and that she is a true vocalist capable of any genre.
Thanks for all your eactions for "Friends". That song it is from the Donna Summer's first album: "Lady Of The Night" 1974, in which it distribution was in Europe only. This album, it is the begining of the greatest vocalist profesional singer start, knows as Donna Summer. When she was a young girl (Adrian Donna Gaines), the people of the neybornhood curently called her as, "The strong Voice Girl". Please, react for more Donna Summer's studio version songs: "Friend Unknows" (1994), "Spring Affair & Summer Fever" (1976), "Grand Illusions" (1980), "Take Me" (1977), "Rumour has it" (1977) and her autobiographic beautiful piano song "Once Upon A Time" (Theme) 1977. Donna Summer is my favorite artist from 1976. I love all her spectacular music catalog. Blessings to everybody! William Rodríguez-Zayas, from my gorgeous and beautiful Island of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷.
One of my favorite songs from The Lady Of The Night album. A “poppy” pop song but Donna shows off her vocal range more on this song than any other on her first album.
I’ve Just Discovered Your Page Brad. Thank You, For Your Positive Critiques & Taking The Time To Share Them With Us! A Huge “Donna Summer” Fan. My Suggestion For A Gentle Delicate Performance From Donna Would Be “Sometimes Like Butterflies” ❤
Thank you for your message. I am making my way through Donna's discography in chronological order. Though I did accidentally get a handful of songs in the wrong places lol. I have been really enjoying it thus far.
