My Father bought us this LP back in 1966 or 67 and I never forgot it because this track is 18 minutes LONG! I love it, however and the musicians are so AWESOME!
One of my early introductions to jazz was Charles Lloyd. Lloyd worked, worked, and WORKED his tenor saxophone on this jam. Pure beauty, depth, and stretching out. Beginning with a throaty exploration of his horn to soaring heights, and finalizing a cushiony landing that even with the 18 minutes ends too soon. Charles Lloyd is one bad man!! Believe that!
I was in art school from 1967-1971 in New York city I listened to this sooooo many times and it really inspired me alon with the great Miles Davis albums of the time. In a Silent Way Fellies di Kilamenjaro and of course a Tribute to Jack Johnson..WOW
saw him in 1970 @ the top of the gate n.y.c. Greenwich village. the top of the gate was upstairs from the village gate which held more people. Saw him with Keith Jarrett
This is surely the greatest record I have ever heard in life. I am so grateful for this trio to have recorded this timeless gift for all of us to enjoy. Thank you and God bless you! XOX
This is the Live at Monterey Jazz Festival version. Bought the Lp the day it came out, wore out god knows how many copies and know it note for note. Was hoping to go to the show at the Festival --was 14 at the time and lived in San Francisco, less than 100 miles away-- but it didn't happen. One of the best liver tecordings ever, IMHO
I was also 14 in 1966, experiencing sunrises and sunsets in Alabama but did not hear this gem until attending college between 1970-74. Lost my LP collection but have a decent CD one, including this one which gets played often.

This was such a "groovy and swinging" piece...and it STILL IS ! Great band.

MY FIRST KEITH HEARING GREAT PLAYER.
The glory of this night is bright
and a starry black sky is right.
I sip a cup of fruity wine
and the result will be a rhyme.
The glory of this morning is mine
and a heavenly blue sky illuminates time.
I sip a cup of celestial tea
and a forest flower climbs a tree.

Thank you so much for posting this.
Thank you for posting this. Such a great performance. For what it's worth, though, I believe this is the "Live in Montreux" version.
this song may be proof that there is a God 💘
One for the albums I would want if left to live on an island. Playing it might be a problem though.
Haven't listened to this since I was at Berklee (Berklee'71) and now kicking myself for not! I envy fed1126 for seeing them live.
This was recorded at CA in 1966 when i was 15 years. actually too much scratch noise was treated.
Thank you for your comment.
antológico !!!
Reminds me of Cyclic Episode by Sam Rivers at times.
The airplane that flies over at 10:36 tells you it's Monterey.
