    My family (6) of us flew the BOAC VC-10 from Kennedy to Sydney Australia in 1970. With 3 stops including LAX, Honolulu, Guam then to Sydney. It was awesome, I was 10, my brother and I were invited up to the flight deck for about 15 minutes. Awesome experience that I remember 47 years later. It was the dark blue stripe livery with the BOAC and the emblem on the tail was gold.

    Short of Concorde, the VC10 was the magnum opus of the British aviation industry; a smooth, elegant design married to incredible power and superb flying characteristics. Sadly, the crippling expense of operating and maintaining the airliner, coupled to BOAC's reluctance to buy British built airliners after the Comet disasters, meant it was among the worst financial losses on an airliner project in aviation history. It was far superior to the Boeing 707 or the DC-8, but when the costs mounted up, plus its complexity, you can see why it didn't hit the same sales numbers.
    A fantastic video nonetheless, very well presented and with super commentary and quality. :D

      In fairness, BOAC weren't "[reluctant] to buy British airliners" as a result of the Comet disasters in terms of design or build concerns - in fact, the VC-10, One-Eleven and Trident were all to some extent over-engineered in terms of airframe resilience, strength and redundancy. The fundamental problem was one of specification - the VC-10's primary design goal was to be able to serve BOAC's "Empire" routes, often from "hot and high" airfields with runways too short for a 707 to get in and out of. That ability made the VC-10 an undisputed engineering marvel, however the specification didn't take into account the possibility that those territories would simply extend their runways or build new airfields to accommodate the 707 within a short period of time. The very fact that she was built so strongly ended up counting against her in terms of weight penalty vs. the 707 as well...

    Great and classy video of VC10👏 Liked the music and B&W intro and no music in the demo. 👌. Thanks 😊

    Very much agree that the intro music is superb and period specific. Also to be commended is the excellent historical background. While watching the review, I recalled that this elegant bird may have served as a Royal transport when I was a youngster. My curiosity compelled me to search out the answer, and I was able to confirm my recollection: "In the VIP role, the aircraft was commonly used by members of the British Royal family, such as during Elizabeth II's bicentennial tour of America, and by several British Prime Ministers, Margaret Thatcher reportedly insisted on flying by VC10." Credit: Wikipedia. Bravo FSElite!

    Those Vickers VC-10's will be in my hangars real soon.
    I already had nice versions of the VC-10's (and Trident's) for FS2002 and FS9, from Addictive Simulations.
    But these VC-10's from Just Flight, have thrown the ball right out of the park.
    Sadly, a very reliable source at J.F has confirmed to me that no lovely Stewardess's will be on board in the short or long term updates.
    I got used to them with my Connie's, Viscount's, Comet Jetliners and Captain Sim 707, 727, and 737.
    I guess a personal thermos filled with hot coffee, will have to do for now...
    So long from CYUL.
    PS: The center windshield wiper at 3:20 can be activated as shown on "Stormy Heathrow Departure J.F VC-10".

    FSElite i want to thank you for he spectacular quality video you made, you ultimately encouraged me to buy the vc10 and experience it for myself. I really enjoyed your voice over as well as a demonstration of the systems and start up. I really hope you make more videos in the future.

    Just Flight have excellent taste in aircraft

  • @markburgess4544

    Yes the sounds are excellent, no surprise there as they were created by the lengendary Benoit Plamondon, I suggest you look up his youtube channel. He goes to enormous lengths to get the balance right between cockpit and exterior views and specialises in 'classic' jets - 707 to 747, DC8, DC-10, L1011, one-eleven, trident etc. Having seen, heard (felt!) these aircraft close-up in the eighties I can confirm the sounds are very realistic. You may also have come across his work through the Historic Jetliners Group. The sounds are freeware which is extraordinary! A great little review too!

    The British VC-10 had many military models such as the VC-10 C.1 that served as a Cargo, Medical Evacuation and VIP Transport VC-10 C.1K was a Tanker-Transport conversion of the VC-10 C.1 and the VC-10 K.2, VC-10 K.3, and VC-10 K.4 Tankers.
    But there were more ideas planned as there was a plans to make the VC-10 into these
    1. The VC-10 Poffier a ALBM carrier which could've carried up to 8 AGM-48A Skybolt,
    2. The VC-10 AEW an AWACS Platform.
    3. The VC-10 K.1 and VC-10 K.3A a pair of unbuilt tankers
    4. The VC-10 MR.2, VC-10 MRA.3 a pair of unbuilt Maritime Patrol Aircraft
    5. The VC-10R a Signals Intelligence Reconnaissance Platform
    Some of these proposed VC-10 were cancelled for justifiable reasons and others were unlucky

    The VC10 still holds the world record for fastest crossing of the atlantic for a subsonic airliner- that is, concorde was of course the fastest but thats a different category.

    • @TheSaint0358
      @TheSaint0358 5 років тому

      No that has been taken by the a380, top speed of 737 mph

      @@TheSaint0358 We are not talking about top speed here. We are talking about the fastest atlantice crossing and yes, that record is held by the VC10

    You probably know by now but if you can get recordings of a Victor tanker's engines they are the same RR Conway turbofans, the world's first turbofan in service. 👍

    I serviced the VC-10 in the 60s, at LGW in hanger maintenance, with pride at the early years of my career, the new hanger was called the VC10 Hanger, sad story when one day it was being repaired for a Royal flight to South America, the left main Jack under the left-wing slipped and gone through the wing, and the top Fin rested on the scaffold, we all nearly cried....
    Beautiful British product was killed in vain along with all British Aircraft Manufacture Industry on a fake economic reason... for what??? finish off with the American 737Max that no one will fly with it..... am lucky that I have seen and worked in the British Aircraft Industries in its Golden age, no regret, will do it all over again.....

    • @turricanedtc3764
      @turricanedtc3764 4 роки тому

      @John K Lindgren - "Boeing Only Airways Corporation" was the "safe" version of the insult - in actuality I heard the engineers used to refer to it as "Buy Only American Crap"... BOAC's 707s were fitted with the same four RR Conway engines the VC-10 was - the problem wasn't one of fuel consumption, they simply carried fewer passengers when used on the transatlantic runs.

    • @TheFlightSimDeck

      Peter Matthess the manual was written very well. What are you stumped on?

    • @PeterMatthess
      @PeterMatthess 6 років тому

      When I took it out it was mostly the operation of the Autopilot which had me muddled, engaging the IAS hold, ALT hold, and NAV just felt very uncertain. I am sure I just need to give myself more time with the aircraft and re-read the manual, I remember going to it originally but I should go over it again. I think its much easier to pick things up when you watch someone else do something though! Thanks for this video!!
