Fresh Basil Deli on Gary Rhodes

FRESH BASIL Deli and Eaterie in Belper is all set for the national spotlight after reaching the regional finals of UKTV's food heroes competition.
The Strutt Street store has been voted as one of the top five food heroes in the Midlands and will now be judged by a panel including celebrity chef Gary Rhodes as they compete for a first prize of £40,000 as the ultimate 'local food hero'.
Sam Jackson, who has run the business with Tim Dakin and Roma Bothamley for the last two and a half years, said: "We were nominated by an as yet unknown source. We've been encouraging our customers to vote for us and now it's up to the judges.
"We sell everything food related and try to source and use local ingredients. We actively take what is available to us in Derbyshire."
The deli recently pioneered the sale of Derbyshire sourdough bread, baked without yeast, and the UKTV camera crews will be in town on August 15, 2007.
The shop continues to win hearts and minds in the community with local people besieging the UKTV website with comments such as: "This outlet is a credit to Belper and well worth a visit if you are in the area", great to find a little gem like this in such a small community and great friendly service, superb food and exceptionally reasonable prices."
