      No Lord Zeus needs to listen to his own son. Apollo is right about Hades feeding on the fear of the mortals. Zeus just won't listen to him.

      He can question Hades. Try to defy him. That is the God Apollo after all.
      In the greek pantheon the God of Truth, Medicine, Prophecy, Music, and the very Sun which permits for the Day itself to exist, is considered paramount and nearly unchallengeable. Regardless of where in the family tree he is.
      In some places and ages of Ancient Greek his attributed power and importance would even match with Zeus himself.
      But yes, the eldest of the Gods is the eldest of the Gods. Apollo could argue, question, take part in the major decisions, have his powerful voice heard. But never go head-to-head alone with his uncle. Either out of respect... or self-preservation.

      @@EmptyMan000 I have this feeling with majority of modern movies. Very often, when I see deleted scenes, I just gaze with unbelief as it explains the plot that seemed totaly baffling. Most funny is that almost every movie has some scenes that are boring and often artificially long (that most of DVD viewers simply skip out), so if its about shorter time, why the hell not delete tohose scenes

      Funnily enough, Hades has always been at least comparable to Zeus. The movie version of Hades is at least as powerful, while the real world mythology depicted Hades as being far more powerful; the eldest son of Cronus, whose power was kept in check only by the fact that he was surprisingly just. Real world mythology made it abundantly clear that he could have overthrown Zeus at any time, but he chose to refrain from doing so out of love for his brother.
      The myths also made Hades out to be a just and dutiful judge and shepherd of the dead instead of a vengeful prick.

At most Poseidon and Hades are nearly equal to him, and he says this himself, but also states that even then, he’s stronger than either. You guys need to chill with the nonsense.

      No, he’s right.
      Poseidon has for more powers than either of them, and Hades being the eldest has some of the greatest raw power above them all.
      Zeus was a good fighter, and his Thunder Bolt is the most powerful weapon in Greek mythology, but in terms of raw power and their abilities, the other 2 were more powerful and could certainly have defeated him. Zeus was the youngest of the 3, remember that.

    I honestly don't like the way Hades is being portrayed in this film. Don't get me wrong, I love the actor, but the character is nothing like the mythological version. The mythological version of Hades was a total badass. So much so, that almost all of the Olympian gods agreed that they would not pick a fight with him in the midst of their childish quarrels. And he wasn't an evil or Satanic figure at all. Hades is in fact what many of the other gods should be: firm, just, strong, and with no ego. Hades followed the natural order by the book, and while he was cruel he was not evil. He's doing what needs to be done to keep things in check. And he's so feared that no one would dare utter his name. Even the minor gods of Olympus get unnerved by him when he's around them.

    • @melodysnowflakerandomness7890
      @melodysnowflakerandomness7890 7 років тому +79

      Actually I don't think he actually meant to be cruel, don't forget, he rules the underworld alone along with his wife who visits only for six months a year. The other gods fear him, and he is quite lonely. He's actually very bitter, and when he gets angry well, sometimes emotional stresses and stuff. But he also rules with justice

      That's the reason Damon hades is the best. A cold wind, a knight in black, cruel and just. He is the cold darkness. Like the old saying I know "life was beautiful and death cold, one day life asked death; "death why does everyone love you but hate me? im life!' and death replied "because you my love are a beautiful lie and I am a cold truth." Hades is that cold truth and Olympus is a beautiful lie :3

      I agree with this. Compare to other gods I think Hades is the most honest and fair of all of them. In Tartarus Hades had the job to put on check other more powerful monsters, if one of those monster go out they will be apocalypse for the humans. Hades tamed Cerberus to his will and turn it into a guardian. Some of the monsters in Tartarus are very hard to kill that no even the gods can.

    After I watched the whole movie I immediately felt sympathy for hades. Who the hell wouldn't be pissed off if your younger siblings lived in a beautiful realm to be loved by everyone, all you get is a dark and dismal realm to be hated and feared by everyone.

    • @repinswatson6452
      @repinswatson6452 9 років тому +26

      id still rather be hades. In this movie series he lives longer. We see zues and poseidon die. Hades lives. The Olympians need the love to be immortal. Hades just need them to fear. Fear death or whatever foal beast hades unleashes. So if you see any creature from the underworld in you backyard you would be scared and in effect make hades stronger. But you wouldn't exactly know that it makes him stronger if you were in that world.
      Fear and love. Both powerful emotions. You can rule a city/empire/world with one or the either easily. Having both is a challenge but is easy today with say the Christian god.

      Exactly, he is so misunderstood. Looks like I'm not the only one who feels sorry for him, not only in this movie but in the Percy Jackson series as well. Who wouldn't be bitter if they had to rule in a realm underground full of dead people? Even though he kind of is good underground, he's like the only few living souls their. His siblings fear him because he is the Lord of the dead, but he has feelings too. He's lonely I'm sure. And when he get angry and starts attacking people, I actually feel sorry for him, not scared of him. Your emotions must be quite close to the surface if you are living underground for sentries, knowing that your siblings are living in that beautiful relm above ground and they have each other for company and all that stuff and they don't fear each other. But when he is around? Oh no, here comes Hades the Lord of the dead... That must not be a nice feeling. I wish they would stop portraying him as such an evil being. True he has a bad temper, and for good reason. But he also Rulesthe underworld with justice and fairness in punishment for those who did wrong and fair rewards for those who did write in their lives. He is not cruel, and not evil. He just feels underrated and all that and wishes to get the respect that he actually deserves

    • @ramsaystott1933
      @ramsaystott1933 6 років тому +9

      You mistake the underworld for some kind of hell. It instead consists many sections, Elysium, for example, is where the distinguished heroes would spend eternity, there were parts where ordinary mortals would go. If you were accepted to Elysium you had a choice, to be reborn or to go to Elysium, if you were reborn and were accepted to Elysium three times then you were granted eternal paradise in the Isles of the Blessed. Only sinners or criminals would be sent to Tartarus where they would be punished for their sins. You see the underworld is far more complex than this film made it out to be as only gods or immortals could live in Olympus (heaven). The underworld was not hell merely the afterlife.

Can anyone care to explain to me why Hades has to get down on his knee and kiss Zeus's hand ? His own brother's hand ? Seems awfully silly considering his position amongst the rest of the Olympians.

      It's bull****, like the whole movie's take on greek mythology.
      a) the gods were "politically" more influential the more they were worshipped, but it had nothing to do with either their immortality or their mystical power. Some of the most powerful immortals weren't worshipped at all, take the titans, who ruled before there were any humans on earth, or take the primordial gods like Erebus, Uranus, Gaia or Nyx. The latter was even feared by Zeus himself.
      b) Hades, Poseidon and Zeus were always more or less equals when it came to raw power. Zeus, due to him freeing his five older siblings (Hestia, Hades, Demeter, Poseidon and Hera) from his father's stomach and due his leading role in the Titanomachy (the actual mythological war against the titans) simply had superior "political" influence. Within their respective domains each of the three brothers ruled supreme and weren't challenged by or obedient to any other god, not even the king of the Olympians. The mythological Hades NEVER bowed to his younger brother, neither did Poseidon. The Big Three (most of the time grudgingly) respected each other as equals in power.

      Old comment, but new information to say. Lol I agree! For all we know they could very well be judging what humanity has become. After all their was no world ending, god killing event to happen in history to the Greek Gods such as the Norse ones with Ragnarok. The Olympians simply faded into history. Could've been man realizing it's own potential an not needing the Gods to live. Which is where we are today. Skeptical of even the slightest magic we see everyday no one would know unless we died an appeared before Hades ...

Liam is a great Zeus being the boss of everything and kind of a mediator and Luke is a great Apollo by fighting for the mortals and Ralph is interesting as hades. You could tell which one they are from their attitude and seating arrangements. Hera sits next to Zeus and talks about wives. Athena is next to Poseidon because she has a snake, she shows a bit of bias to Poseidon, and she is Zeus's most trusted adviser, showing why she is seated close to him yet next to Poseidon in result of the power scale. Aphrodite is the one with pink hair and mentions how love feeds them. Poseidon is next to Zeus. Apollo is the one in shining armor. And there's Hades. =/

    Hades, eldest of the gods and the most powerful, yet knew eventually Zeus's arrogance would be his undoing. So he self exiled to tartarus not because Zeus forced him there, but as a warning to the other gods, sooner or latter they will die as sure as they were born, and then Hades shall be their god. Throughout the mythos Hades Always played the long game and bided his time, he feared nothing not even oblivion, where Zeus had the greatest fear of all.... loosing everything.

    Hollywood should really start dropping the notion that Zeus is Deus and that Hades is the Devil... Also the other gods barely even get a chance to shine. Poseidon is supposed to be an absolute monster of an existence, and we barely even see him do anything. Bringer of tsunami, earth-shaker, the patron of horses and, in Mycenean myth, the god of the underworld. And for Hollywood he's just a bystander.

      Yeah, you gotta learn that most of the Greek Mythology has more then just 1 form. Prometheus is the story i focused on, as he created humans out of mud water and air. Zues' story was more or less, poof, humans. But yeah, Prometheus had multiple reasons for being chained up, but was too stubborn to tell Zues of his prophecy. Eventually he told Zues who was to overthrow him, and was set free

    @taulin2007 In actual Greek Myth, Hades was never tricked. They drew upon chance and each of them accepted their places. Hades was never actually portrayed as the icon of Death, he was the God of the underworld - the place where ALL spirits reside after death. Hades' realm wasn't hell, either. He was pretty much the GUARDIAN of spirits. If anything, Hades was the least evil of all the Olympian gods as mythology tells it, hell he HAD to be. It was his JOB to rule over spirits.

  • @EnglishRose719
    @EnglishRose719 13 років тому +1

    Poor Hades, he's ALWAYS mis-represented. If they knew anything about Greek Mythology they'd know that Hades was a god of balance and even justice, he was the Greek equivalent of St. Peter in that he judged every mortal soul and decided which area of the Underworld they went, the good or the bad areas and furthermore he's one of the only married god's who remained faithful to his wife. He's not a bad guy. EVERY Greek god or goddess had a good side and a bad side, it was all about natural balance

    This cut scene adds much needed context, plot and character development. It's particularly poignant because the original film focused heavily on the notion that humans are mere playthings for the Gods... Here that sense of human dependency on them is reversed to the notion that they are dependent upon our prayers... It drastically alters the tone of the film from a slew of action sequences that attempts, poorly, to honour the revolutionary Ray Harryhausen with fairly industry standard CGI, to a film that actually has something mildly interesting to say about the nature of theology and faith.
