  • Every used vehicle bought and sold inevitably has some faults, and this is more so with 'classic' vehicles which generally only receive limited use, and maintenance. The 1969 Bedford van I bought recently was no exception...

Looks a nice project, a lot of little jobs to do, nothing major

Thank you. I enjoyed listening and watching this little video. One thing is for sure, you are getting to know the old girl and sussing stuff out. I've worked and been around classic vehicles for over 40 years now and love the fact you can actually work on the motor cars of yester year. A friend of mine with a 4 year old BMW had a failed component in the headlight - simple fix? Not a bit of it. He has had to shell out £1200 for a full SEALED UNIT. BMW obviously making sure it can't be maintained and thus making thousands more from folks in part sales!
Keep up the good work and enjoy the maintenance, you are learning all the time.

Car design lost its way when getting a headlight to work turned into a major pain.

Would be nice seeing the inside of the shed where you keep all those vehicles!

As much as I would love to keep the council busy cleaning up after me, I also like to complete journeys in under a week.

I am surprised at the number of defects given the recent work undertaken by the restorer that was fairly well documented on UA-cam! Although probably their strengths were bodywork, but even with that, you showed areas that still require attention. Good to see the fixes being made, thanks for sharing.

It is essentially sound but there are things which need improvement and finishing. Most I noted when viewing the vehicle, but others only became apparent once home and a more detailed inspection could be made. I'm happy with the van in spite of the extra work needed.

great van, good luck with it going forward. The light switch is a work of art, well done showing it stripped down. agree with electronic ignition , they belong in the rubbish bin. Look how many Bedford vans where built all with points and contacts , sure they need a clean and adjustment every now and again but they work and work well, you can see if you have a spark at the dissy with them. Looking forward to the next video on the van.

Very true, electronic ignition is too often used as a cure-all for underlying problems. I'll be covering that in the next episode...
