I never put much store in ghosts and always saw them as a bit of fun. Then years ago I visited Chillingham Castle in Northumberland. It was a beautiful sunny day but from the moment I parked up and my girlfriend and I got out the car, I got a really bad feeling about it. There is a little way to walk to get to the castle and it is horrible. There were these creepy statues of bulls along the walk to the castle. The sun was largely blocked out by the trees making the day seem grey and we kept hearing sounds as if something was crashing through the trees and thumping on the ground, yet there was nothing there. Coming to the clearing where the castle is, I caught a movement in my peripheral vision and looked round only to see a man standing by one of the trees smiling at me. It was not a friendly smile. I pointed him out but he disappeared behind the tree. I walked over to see what he was doing but there was no one there. Freaked me out.
Chillingham Castle seems to have a most appropriate name…. It does sound as if you had a genuinely supernatural experience though. The older I get, the more I have come to believe Shakespeare’s assertion, that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in our philosophy. God bless you.
I am very glad you included a sighting in your tale. Bothing makes me more skeptical than having someone providing "I constantly felt like I was being watched" as their only evidence of a haunting. You can get that "feeling" anywhere.
That sounds like the unnerving experience we had at Chingle Hall, Preston. There were guided tours so everyone queued up on the bridge over the moat. The atmosphere was completely silent and eerie and everyone was jittery. Then a goose honked and several people including myself screamed. I was absolutely terrified although I like ghost accounts and would have loved to have seen a ghost. When we all stood silently in the Mad Girl's Room the atmosphere was horrendous, even though the guide was speaking. Suddenly my 17 year old daughter standing next to me poked me with her elbow and when I turned to her she pointed at her hair. She had very long hair and a section of it was standing out sideways as though someone had hold of it and was raising it up and inspecting it. We looked at eachother in horror and she batted it back down in panic. Once home we told my sister about it and she and her boyfriend, 39, who was mad on photography and would develop his own photos, visited Chingle the next week. The boyfriend took two of his best cameras. When they got inside the cameras wouldn't work. Completely dead. Once outside they worked perfectly, apparently lots of swearing ensued from the boyfriend. Would love to go again but it's a private residence now I think.
I remember reading about Berkeley Square as a schoolboy. It scared me, so I handed it to my best friend and (without warning) he read it. Some 30 years later, I still remember the look of terror on his face! Brilliant work Rich!

Same here. I also started around eight, although I'm a lot older than you. My school had a small supernatural section in addition to the public library. I used to buy ghost-themed comic books. Anything with ghosts in it, I was there. I was obsessed. Good times. I always wanted the ghost or monster on Scooby Doo to be real...

A animal which has deep fear of something will never just settle. It'll be extremely hard to force an animal which will kick, scratch and even bite in order to escape what it fears. This is why I found it very hard to believe both the cat and dog, especially being able to tie a cat down which will seriously hurt you and run off while you recoil in pain.

Obviously the amount of Energy flowing in, around and through this house it must have been built on an Energy Vortex where numerous Ley Lines Meet. In the version I read about the sailors that broke in, the sailor that was attacked by the "Thing" was found impaled on the railings after being thrown out of the window. The other sailor had run off to find a policeman, and had not collapsed on the steps as was told in the version you read out.
Rhoda Broughton was related to Sir Jock Delves Broughton of Doddington Hall, Cheshire who was accused - and later acquitted - for the murder the Earl of Errol in Kenya.
I visited the place in the 1990's to make a delivery, and having read the tale of the stranded sailors when I was young, mentioned the story to the receptionist. She smiled dismissively and claimed to know nothing of the hauntings. It would probably fetch £50 million today if put up for sale...
I worked in an old gaol.m8 some guys worked their 10 years when I arrived to work they never saw any thing .me on the on.the other hand have been attacked felt like I had been stabbed in the neck and choked not a pleasant experience then I was giving it large in b wing me being a big mouth never again felt like I had 10.bells kicked out of me and I have loads of other stories
When it was Maggs Bros a friend worked there as an intern in around 2010. She was asked to go through the archives. She discovered some letters from C S Lewis that they had never seen before.
You are born to read ghost stories 😄 Excellent research and detail indeed 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍 One question…Your first story was about Nr. 32….was the house renumbered from 32 to 50 Berkeley Square?
I read a book when I was a kid in the 70s called ghosts of London. Apparently 2 sailors broke into a house in Berkley Square in one room they were confronted by a terrible sight one of them got away ran into the arms of a police man the other saillor was found on the spiked railings outside a terrified look on his face .was this the house I wonder may be number 50???
@@JackTheRipperTours I've always liked Elliott O'Donnell, but whether this episode is true or not he has gone down a couple of notches in my estimation. Of course if true I'm more inclined to think it was the Nameless Thing that had to go to Emergency with bad facial lacerations.
@@JackTheRipperTours I don't know- have you ever tried to get a cat to do anything it didn't want to do? You'll die of blood loss from the million little scratches pretty quickly. Now imagine a frightened cat defending itself... yikes LOL Cats are sharp at so many ends.
Hi Richard! I have just discovered that White Chapple is in EAST London! I dont know why but i have always envisioned it in the WEST! Even though I've constantly hesrd and read EAST London, my feeble brain somehow interpreted it as WEST. How disappointing 😮💨
My compliments on the magnificent storytelling, Mr. Jones. Your talents for these endeavors is most enjoyable. I would note one concern, however. If I am not mistaken, your disclaimer about persons of various descriptions having not been harmed in the making of this video seems to have omitted any reference to sailors. Just saying.
Properties have urban ledgends attached to them.Fear drives people to see and hear things. This was very well presented and beautifully narrated. Thankyou so much .I remain an unbeliever .During the course of my life i have lived in and visited many so called haunted properties .So far i have never encountered a ghost .Who knows what tomorrow will bring .!
Most of my experiences have been when I have been least expecting it like walking into cobwebs a common theme with me no cobwebs present 😮😮if you keep your mind open you never know what will.occur if you show fear they will.jump.all over you
Other stories related to pistol shots in the dawn light in hyde park .long lost duals .and one morning a fella was walking london bridge and past a guy dressed in victoroan clothes the guy said good morning and he replied then he thought strange clothes when he turned around the guy had gone
I remember hearing a radio drama about Berkeley Square, it ended with one of two sailors being thrown from the top window, onto the spiked railings below. The two sailors, out for a laugh, break into the house. There's a whore from the local tavern with them, she flees in terror. A great drama it was.
What is 50 BERKELEY Square, NOT "Barkley Square" home to now? I would have been interested in visiting it just for when it was an antiquarian bookstore.
😂I’m also finding it mad that looking down the comment section that a lot of other people have also read the probably the same book when they were at school just like me 😂
The fact the police never got involved and the house is still standing and people kept moving in knowing of its history kind of screams to my skepticism lol

The reclusive Mr Myers, who "wouldn't be seen by anyone" really ought to have got some curtains.
He probably invented reality television.
This made me chuckle 😂
Just playing 1 of my fav songs 🎵 A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square , Nat King Cole (Natty). Original by Vera Lynn of course 👌
How did it switch from the house numbered 32 to number 50?
It just seems that the story set at 32 was "acquired" by number 50!
Rhoda Broughton was related to Sir Jock Delves Broughton of Doddington Hall, Cheshire who was accused - and later acquitted - for the murder the Earl of Errol in Kenya.
Has the top floor of number 50 been demolished or has it always been smaller than the houses next to it?
I visited the place in the 1990's to make a delivery, and having read the tale of the stranded sailors when I was young, mentioned the story to the receptionist. She smiled dismissively and claimed to know nothing of the hauntings. It would probably fetch £50 million today if put up for sale...
🤣 you probably scared the shit out of her 🤣 poor girl 🤣
As a security guard for nigh on 30 years working in haunted buildings and the odd church i can confirm ghosts are complete bollocks.
Liked and SUBBED!
Thank you.
When it was Maggs Bros a friend worked there as an intern in around 2010. She was asked to go through the archives. She discovered some letters from C S Lewis that they had never seen before.
The haunted and haunter is one of the best.
I loved the last paragraph very amusing 😂
You are born to read ghost stories 😄 Excellent research and detail indeed 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍 One question…Your first story was about Nr. 32….was the house renumbered from 32 to 50 Berkeley Square?
I read a book when I was a kid in the 70s called ghosts of London. Apparently 2 sailors broke into a house in Berkley Square in one room they were confronted by a terrible sight one of them got away ran into the arms of a police man the other saillor was found on the spiked railings outside a terrified look on his face .was this the house I wonder may be number 50???
yes it was
I worked in a house in upper Berkeley Street that was definitely haunted
Never mind Nameless Things and maids going mad and sailors being killed. What happened to the bloody cat?🐈
The poor cat was left to do battle with the thing. I can't bear to think of the result. Methinks it didn't go well for the cat.
My thoughts too, what a barsteward that man was..poor cat
I was hoping nobody would notice. The truth is a sailor was harmed in the making of the video!
£13,000/month to rent. Very impressive home in Mayfair.
Bloody House Elves!
50 Berkeley Square. may or may not be home of the "nameless horror"
I wonder if there was a gas leak in the room and that's what killed them.
Or carbon monoxide
I’m never ringing a bell again lol.
love the humor
I remember hearing a radio drama about Berkeley Square, it ended with one of two sailors being thrown from the top window, onto the spiked railings below. The two sailors, out for a laugh, break into the house. There's a whore from the local tavern with them, she flees in terror. A great drama it was.
the only stories i have heard are those sailors and that lord who stayed there also a story of warboys death from fear.
Do you have any informatiion on lord Berkeley did he live there
What is 50 BERKELEY Square, NOT "Barkley Square" home to now? I would have been interested in visiting it just for when it was an antiquarian bookstore.
Say "Worchestershire"
And then say Buckingham.
😂I’m also finding it mad that looking down the comment section that a lot of other people have also read the probably the same book when they were at school just like me 😂
I hope every single cat Mr O'Donnell owned afterwards peed on his shoes to avenge their fallen brother 😅
And puked on the stairs, which he found with bare feet.
The fact the police never got involved and the house is still standing and people kept moving in knowing of its history kind of screams to my skepticism lol
